What are we hoping to get in return for Polanco? -

I am not saying we should trade for him, but we could only hope that one of our top 3 pitching prospects turn out to have his career. Sometimes I think we forget how often top prospects fail. See Matt Moore above and we don't have any prospect on his level. I am almost always going to take the guy that has a MLB track record over a prospect.- 15 replies

For most of the year Buxton has been a fairly easy out. Below .200 BA, below .300 OBP, and 88K in 257 at. I personally would pencil him in CF for the next 2 years and not once think about trading him. Polanco and Castro are both hitting ~.220. So I think it is more than fair to say those 3 have been offensive liabilities and trading Dozier means there is a very good chance of our new 2B (or SS) will be about the same. I really hope Nick Gordon turns into a solid major leaguer, but being realistic it is barely better than 50/50.

I have to disagree, what has Granite done to be hitting lead off in the majors? Hit AAA pitching? Plus having Polanco, Castro and Granite hitting in a row, is almost a guarantee of three outs in a row.

As I said "Currently we have a hitting holes in CF, SS and C" And for most of the year we have had a hole at C, SS and CF and adding another at 2B, is half of the lineup. Of the names you listed I don't see any that have proven they deserve to be a full-time starter, I see a bunch of utility guys and a fingers crossed (Gordon) that he ever becomes a fulltime player. With that being said if Dozier and parts could bring back a top end starter I would do it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the people on the board begging for trade for a middle infielder next year.
-
You are not really suggesting we trade Dozier for relief pitchers are you? Currently we have a hitting holes in CF, SS and C and you want to trade our starting 2B for relief pitching? Creating another hole in the lineup with nobody to replace him? I agree with need relief pitching but I strongly disagree with this approach.

It does seem Molitor sets Gibson up to fail, and Gibson doesn't need any more help on that. Gibson has 96 pitches at the end of the 6th, that is pretty much where he has pulled him all year regardless of situation and for some reason Sunday was the day he was going to let him go out another inning? against the best hitting team in the league with the Twins C defense behind him?
-
Well since some think every prospect we have is un-touchable they obviously think we are going hit 100% on all them. And they will hit in the next year in half so they are ready before our majors leaguers are free agents. To get a 1 or 2, I would trade Gordon, Gonzo or Romero, plus a AA relief pitcher and another A ball player and anybody in triple A that is on the 40 man so we can free up a spot.

Article: Deadline Primer: Are Twins Buyers Or Sellers?
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
After reading some of the comments, it looks like most want to trade and give away 2017 and 2018. Players people are talking about trading, Dozier, Santana, Buxton, Rosario, Grossman. Leaving a lineup next year of c - castro 1b- Mauer 2b - Polanco ss - Gordon (0 big league at bats) 3b - Sano lf - ? cf - Granite (4 big league at bats) rf - Kepler DH - Vargas SP - Berrios SP - Meija SP - Gibson SP - ? SP - ? So unless those trades bring immediate big league help, we go into next year much worse off than this year and looking at FA to fill holes and little to no depth again in starting pitchers. We already have a pretty crowded 40 man roster. I could see trading Santana if our big 2 minor league pitchers were already here and showing signs of a good future but right now they are just wildcards. IMO if someone is willing to over pay we trade, and we try trading a few of prospects for close to ready or already in the majors starting pitchers. Think about this how many of our top 12 or so prospects are going to have even a decent major league career, the odds say very few. -

Zach Granite minor league stats (over 1500 at bats) OBP is .359 and he going to have it at or over .400 in the majors? Man I sure hope so, but that might be aiming a bit high. Keplers was .363 in the minors and is sitting at .320 in the majors, Rosario's was .340 and is at .300 in the majors, but were considered much better prospects, but like I said I hope you are right. -
I would gladly trade two minor league relief pitchers (or a future 4th or 5th starter, example Stewart) for a proven better than average major league relief pitcher with a few years of control. My thought is that Hand on the Twins gives us 2+ years of a proven relief pitcher compared to a couple of mid 20s minor leagues. IMO
-
I have to ask, if you believe Granite has more upside than Rosario (who is almost exactly 1 year older) why has Rosario been in the big league part of 3 years and Granite has spent only a few months in AAA? Rosario has a higher career OPS in the majors than Granite has in the minors? This is coming from a guy that doesn't think Rosario is much more than a 4th outfielder (hoping I am wrong) I love reading the comments on this site, but man do people have the back up QB syndrome.

I wouldn't trade anybody in our top 10 prospects Lewis, Gordon, Gonsalves, Kirilloff, Romero, Jay, Jorge, Diaz) for Hand or a every day major leader for a relief pitcher. I agree Granite is deserving of a promotion. But in no way do I believe a minor leaguer with ZERO major league at bats wouldn't be a downgrade to a guy with over a 1000 at bats with a .750 OPS in the short run. I would be willing to trade one or two for the next group of players for Hand.
-
I would assume so, but why way over pay so you upgrade your bullpen and make your offense weaker? How about Granite for Hand? I don't see anybody in out top 10 that I would trade for Hand.

Article: Should Twins Usher Youth Movement In Rotation?
Tomj14 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am all for bringing up 1 of those 3. Erv, Berrios, Meija, Gibson, and one of those 3 would be good. I have not been on the Gibson bandwagon, but since June he has an ERA of 4.17 and has pitched into at least the 5 every gam and it all but 1 the 6th. It does seem Paul has him on a short leash after the 5th it one guy gets on he yanks him. I would love to see him attempt to get the last out in the inning 4 of 7 starts have ended in 2/3 of a inning. -

Why do you need to keep Park (not even on the 40 man) or Vargas? Between Mauer and Sano that position should be fine, and try Grossman or Kepler there. -

Then Garver isn't a prospect and the we shouldn't think of him as a solution to any need. -
The comebacker was terrible luck and then Gibson went to first instead of third. Our bullpen usage is terrible, why pull Gibson after the homer, let him finish the damn inning. It seems like Paul is looking to pull our starters out as fast as he can. If Gibson isn't mentally strong enough or is unable to get the final out in the 6th, cut him. he only had 88 pitches at that point. It seems that our starters know that after the 5th they better not give up another hit or they are out of the game.

Article: Cody's Post-Draft Top Prospects: 10-6
Tomj14 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Mike, you always have good points. Imagine if Stewart and Jay were 80% of what they were hoping for, then we have 4 big time pitchers in our top 5 with Gordon, and Lewis isn't even in the top 5 imo. and the twins are sitting in a great position to do something this year. -
If the twins let Belisle fly home on the team plane that was a mistake. They should have cut him after the game, and said we have and will pay you quite a bit a money. Good Luck There is no reason to have a 37 pitcher with an ERA of 8.59 on this or any team.
