  1. You can say that about 90% of all pitchers failing to live up to expectations, sometimes they are who they are. Moliter has made some weird decisions with him all year, there was a stretch were he took him out as soon as a guy got on base after the 4th. Not saying he didn't deserve not to be trusted but how many pitchers pitch well knowing after the 4th they have to pitch no hit, not walk ball the rest of the way? Name one pitcher that is a 4/5 for a team having a better second half then Gibson. He is 75th in innings pitched this year in the majors. I say good luck to finding a starter to replace him for 5 million, unless it is a rookie and lets be honest when was the last rookie that was consistent on the Twins?
  2. I am not sure how Gibson is to blame that the twins only have 2 pitchers better than him. Gibson hasn't been pitching well for the last few weeks, he has been pitching well since the end of May (which is the last few months, not weeks) I don't think anybody has said invest in him long term, but he is only 30 and right now there aren't too many free agents to be that I want to spend big money on. I wouldn't pencil him in for the 2018 rotation either, but while he is inconsistent at times I rather him in the 5th spot then any one of are minor league prospects at least starting 18.
  3. If I did my math correct, since May 28th, Gibson's ERA is 4.29 in 18 starts. 1 game with 7 runs allowed 1 game with 6 runs allowed 1 game with 4 runs allowed 6 games with 3 runs allowed 5 games with 2 runs allowed 3 games with 1 runs allowed 1 game with 0 runs allowed I will take that from my 5th starter every year.
  4. If I was going to extend him, it would be right up to when Buxton and the crew are coming due, I wouldn't want his contract to be the reason we can't sign them. I think Mauer will re-sign with something around 3/30 to finish he career here. I think if the Twins are in it again next year, I don't believe money should stop them from signing a pitcher, the fans just won't have it.
  5. What I am seeing from these pitchers is that all but a couple average about 5 innings per start, what is the main reason for that?
  6. Not trying to argue but are teams really better today? How many trades haven't happened because a team wouldn't trade prospects and those prospects never did anything? I would argue both the Revere and Span trades are proof that trading prospects don't always come back to haunt you. For the most part we got less than zero from Meyers and so far not much from May.
  7. All it says to me is that he probably shouldn't be thought of as a piece of the major league club until 2019. Not sure how a 21 year old would wear down in AA and not have the same issue the next year in the majors.
  8. I think what he has been doing is why people on this site said they wouldn't trade him for pitching. You don't trade a young possible generational talent because he is struggling at age 22/23.
  9. Completely agree, to assume we will stay this healthy the next few years is crazy talk.
  10. Is it safe to start talking about SANO having a somewhat disappointing season?
  11. Is there a pitcher Molitor trusts enough that he would do what Counsell did with Hader last night, I think he would have blown though at least two pitchers in the 5th.
  12. Could it be that we hoped he was better than he is? I mean not this bad but not as good as last year? After looking at his minor league stats I not really seeing anything that screams he was supposed to be anything more than 3rd infielder type. .286/.346/.411 in 7 minor leagues seasons. He is still young, so hopefully he can be something similar to his minor league numbers in the majors.
  13. If you are willing to punt next year, that isn't a bad option. Gordon is doing fine in AA .282/.356/.436 But if he isn't close to those and Polanco is anything like this year, your screwed because catcher has been a black hole also and that is a 1/3 or the lineup. Me personally I make Gordon push the people a head of him out of a job, unless you give him SS and make Polanco force a trade of Dozier.
  14. Don't disagree with what you are saying, but if nobody on this team is going to be that slugger, then we are screwed because our FA money MUST go to pitchers. It isn't Mauer and Grossman's fault they are hitting in the 3-5 slots. The outfield we have must greatly improve over the next two years or we will be rebuilding forever.
  15. Is Napoli better than Mauer and Grossman this year?
  16. So having 3 utility infielders, a guy in AA and a no hit slick fielding SS is a logjam, the future is not bright.
  17. While I would love to have better players at first and DH, Grossman is 6th in the AL in OBP, Mauer is 12th. Sano is 20th, everybody else is below Dozier who is 54th. So the problem isn't them it is the development of the outfield and SS. (I do understand they are still young) but adding 2 more guys to the lineup that don't see a ton of pitches and have a low OBP isn't going to make this team better. If Kepler, Rosario and Sano - end up like Yelich, Ozuna and Stanton and we get two more starters and a bunch of new bullpen arms you can win with Dozier and Mauer no problem
  18. I agree he should be but my guess is because Polanco is out of options.
  19. My guess is that he will be 27 prior to the start of next season and his career minor league OPS is .782 and only 2 of his 6 minor league years he has shown any power. His minor league stats (at the same age) look pretty similar to Chris Giménez. Now I have hope he will have a better career, but...
  20. Are we really surprised that Gibson dominated at AAA, he has been pretty much league average or better for the last two months. And after Colon's next start (which will be short again) they are going to have to call Gibson back up. Like I have said many times before I am not a huge fan of Gibson but right now he is the third or fourth best starter the Twins have in their system.
  21. Agreed I meant for the year not this game. I just don't see how you can have Polanco in the lineup when Granite is playing. IMO
  22. No one else commented on him, but I love the idea of getting Raisel Iglesias, he can step in this year as 8th inning type guy, and next year compete to be the closer if we resign Kintztler or if his arm problems are a thing of the past we could offer him the change to move back to starting. This is the type of guy we should be looking at. (he would probably cost a lot, not sure we have enough, would Blakenhorn, Jorge and relief pitcher get it done?
  23. I agree with your take, but it seems with the base loaded and no outs, at least a double play scores a run, and with how horrible the twins have been with the bases loaded (might not actually be true but does seem true of late) they could use a run. They had the bases loaded with no outs, K, botched double play, K, K. 1 run! That is the kind of thing that happens when you get little to no offensive from you Catcher, SS and centerfielder.
  24. I think the cost for a SS hitting .319 with a OPS of .970 is going to cost us some pretty good prospects.
