  1. Isn't this the problem with hording prospects? eventually you will lose them for nothing because there isn't enough room on the 40 man roster with prospects that are not elite. This is one of many reasons team take a chance and trade young ones before they get exposed and don't make it anyway. Maybe the Yanks traded us Enns and Littlell because they would need to be added to the their 40 man roster and they didn't value them in that way, and while the trades looks good for the Twins now if they don't end up contributing to the Twins or being added in a trade for somebody else, I don't see how this ends up being a good trade because they took up 40 man roster space?
  2. Doesn't reduce their tax bracket, it reduces their tax burden, but it is still money coming out of their accounts, and many believe they can do better to help people then giving it to the state or Feds, and who are we to argue to that point?
  3. Yes Florida, Tenn, Texas would be horrible places to live. The reason athletes don't mention taxes as a reason is because those that do get destroyed in the Media and by people about not paying their fair share. (look what they said about Phil Mickelson when he talked about moving out of Cali for tax reasons) But if taxes didn't matter you wouldn't have athletes owning places in FLA or Texas when signing their contract so any bonuses won't be taxes at 10%.
  4. Remember 20 million a year after taxes (fed - 39.6 and state 9.85) and 10% going to the agent is really closer to 8. So a couple of million and/or a state with lower taxes is something. Sure that is winning the lottery for us, but for people that make and spend large amounts it is a big deal.
  5. The only reason I don't trade Gordon, Jay and Zach for Cole, is that I have something in works for Archer or possibly one of the Mets starters. I do hate that is he is Boras guy and it will be next to impossible to have him longer than 2 years but I still make the move.
  6. I like the move, don't see much downsize. I like the idea that he will "hopefully" be competing for a spot in the 19 rotation and at that price if isn't ready 8 million isn't a huge hit to take and if he does well 8 million will be a steal.
  7. I think the point is if our pitchers are real prospects they should be established major leaguers by the time they are 24-25. (Berrios, Gray, Sale, Archer, etc..)
  8. He did pitch 77 innings there last year in 15 starts, I would be fine with giving him 8-10 to start there, but anything more tells me he went from a top prospect back to just a regular prospect.
  9. Me? not at all, I was trying to say Thorpe (#13) should/can be held back "if ready" because he is young enough to go to a lower team than say Slegers (#34)
  10. The pitchers with the best chance of having an impact on the major league team should be the priority. To say somebody can be held down because of age, tells me they aren't the prospect we are hoping he is.
  11. Here is a partial list of pitchers (with age starting next year) competing for the rotation of the Twins top 3 minor leagues teams. This shows me we should be trading some for more top end talent or at this point there really is no reason not to switch some to relief pitchers. May - 28 Enns - 27 Eades - 25 Slegers - 25 Stewart - 23 Mejia - 24 Jorge - 24 Poppen - 24 Romero - 23 Gonsalves - 23 Littell - 22 Thorpe - 22 Beeker - 22 Wells - 20 Jax - 23 Barnes - 22 Vasquez - 24
  12. Won't they have same problem in AA this year? With those two down and Stewart, Thorpe, Wells and others?
  13. I don't understand the logic in trading Santana unless it is just one move in a series of moves. and the option year shouldn't matter, except that the Twins should hope he is good enough to pitch 200 innings and we get a decent pitcher for 14 million the following year which I guarantee we couldn't get back on the open market. Cobb has never pitched 200 innings and Lynn twice (202,204)
  14. I believe the team thinks that they can't run him out there 15 out of 20 games because he will be exposed. I see it kind of like Punto back in the day, they put him in situations that he had a chance to succeed, and when he had to play extended periods he showed the real Punto. IMO he isn't a full-time major leaguer player. Way too many holes in his swing.
  15. Vargas and Park have no place on the twins IMO. Park is will be 32 next year and Vargas is what he is (not a good ball player, but does have occasional power) Rooker seems more like a 19 candidate to me. Agree with everything else you said. If for some reason they don't think Sano is going to be able to play 3B for 120+ games next year, I wouldn't mind Frazier for the right price. He strikes out too much but I like the walks and he is only a few months older than Park.
  16. Everybody on the roster excluding Buxton and Berrios should be available for the right deal. I just don't seeing trading Dozier unless it makes next year's team better, because IMO I don't see anybody really close to replacing him. Fingers are crossed that Gordon can do it soon, but him tailing in the second half threw big red flags for me.
  17. Wow, if you have a 14 man bullpen, you don't get crazy over use of just a few.
  18. I assume he was saying people wanted him traded for pitching prospects?
  19. He is 4 months older than our minor league hitter of the year and put up better numbers. I get he is AAAA player.
  20. Sorry I didn't mean to infer anything other than he had another great year in the MINORS and still would be considered one of our better minor league prospects.
  21. Did you see the year Arcia had? https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=arcia-001osw
  22. I like that plan, Gibson and Mejia will have to pitch well just to stay in the rotation because hopefully those guys in AAA will be pushing real hard. (and if Gibson starts next year like he did this year, I would cut him)
  23. I am way more excited/hopeful about the pitching prospects than hitters.
  24. So he ended up with 74 in 6 with no runs. I am not arguing Gibson is something more than he is, I am just saying since his May 28th start he has been a fairly reliable number 4 or 5 starter and has lowered his ERA almost 3 runs. Yes those first 7 starts count and he was terrible in those. But since then he has been giving the team a chance to win, hence the 12 - 7 record in his start. (and yes I realize when your teams scores 20, 17, and 16 runs that helps)
  25. are you saying Kluber, Bauer and Carrasco are number 4 or 5 starters? I will give you Tonlin and Clevinger
