  1. I guess I would suggest that these "perceptions" are regionally specific and are used as a poor tool to wield judgment against other people. It seems to me that what you're describing is a flaw that too many people in our part of the world should strive to correct and players like Miguel Sano are hopefully kind enough to overlook.
  2. I think many of us fans have long said that Mauer's contract has never been a hindrance. While it's easy to lay the issue at the feet of the Pohlads, there didn't seem to be any issue pushing payroll this year. I don't think we can definitively say that it was the Pohlad's who were implicitly behind the lack of free agent contracts. It was a different economic climate, but the Twins were comparatively big spenders back when Andy McPhail was running things too. Ugh, playing Devil's Advocate for the Pohlad's leaves me a bit queasy.
  3. Gonsalves is still throwing way too many pitches. I understand why the front office still has him in AA, no matter the numbers, these are the types of pitchers who seem to struggle the most upon a MLB call up. I always assumed his high pitch count and his good K numbers despite low velocity were due to him intentionally throwing out of and on the fringes of the zone to get the undisciplined minor leaguers to chase. Maybe that is not the case, maybe his control actually is an issue.
  4. It doesn't upset me, the affiliated minors are the laboratory for the majors, which I think is great. Most sports don't have the luxury of experimentation like baseball does. If it doesn't look like a solution for the majors they'll abandon it.
  5. Indicating what? That if you don't have a cold and stoic Minnesota demeanor you're not trying? Jim Thome always seemed to be having a good time.
  6. Is that something that would be apparent to fans?
  7. Be sure to remind us when there is a good series to use him.
  8. With the new legislation that holds websites liable for posting ads linked to human trafficking, hopefully we don't get any of the more questionable ones any longer.
  9. This is hypothetical right? Who should we assumed me the opposing pitching staff is?
  10. I think Hildenberger still has a chance at being a decent pitcher, but not like he's doing it now. He reminds me of Tyler Duffey in that they were very unheralded prospects who got to the big leagues and had early success due to a bit of a gimmick. Being "just" a side-armer doesn't look like it's going to work going forward, he's going to have to get better at locating his pitches for sure and improve his movement and velocity if possible.
  11. I heard that bringing in Hildenberger is just Molitor's new way of convincing the other pitchers to stop letting guys get on base before they get pulled.
  12. Pretty sure the Pit Jumper guy just hit a walk off on my Atari! Woo Hoo FSN mobile!
  13. I'll take our beer selection. A craft beer in Texas is just a Shiner Bock.
  14. Baseball hasn't seen a tie in awhile I suppose.
  15. The mobile version of FSN currently has the definition of the scrambled Cinimax I tried to watch as a youngster at midnight. Did Adrianza just chuck the ball into the dugout for some reason?
  16. Here's hoping Tyler Jay brings something neither can in about a month. The guy I'm most disappointed in is Hildenberger. ERA be damned, he looks awful. And only one strikeout in 5 appearances? What year does he think it is? He was bad in the spring too, I don't think there's any 'leash' issue here, he can be replaced tonight.
  17. I'm not worried about his performance, mostly because I don't think he's uber essential for this offense. I just want him to do what it takes to keep the defenses honest; it'll be worth the payoff for when his bat does heat up. The bunts don't even have to be entirely successful, the other teams just have to see that he's willing.
  18. On the broadcast the other night Dick or Bert mentioned that one of them talked with him about dropping a bunt against the shift. The gist of Morrison's reply was that he was proud that they thought enough to shift on him; the reported reply sounded like a man too proud to bunt. So it should be on Molitor to tell him it's not an option. Or on the front office to tell Molitor that it's not an option.
  19. Geez, can everyone stop talking about Stewart, you're going to jinx it! Don't even breathe in his direction, let's just pretend we didn't see anything and cross our fingers that this is the new normal.
  20. Cody was assigned to Ft. Myers and saw his first action yesterday. He came in out of the pen for two innings starting in the 6th. The 6th unfortunately did start well with a walk followed by a HR. He finished the inning with no other trouble and then only allowed a walk (and a balk) in the 7th. On the night he did strike out three in two innings and the Miracle were victorious. Better things lie ahead surely. I don't see that it's clear which players will line up for starts this year in Ft. Myers, Stashak may still get some. Ft. Myers can be tricky being the destination for the MLB vets getting rehab/warmup innings.
  21. It doesn't bother me that Seattle has to fly back to Minnesota for one game. Now if it was the Twins who had to fly to Seattle for one game.....
  22. Might as well finally get that frayed UCL fixed while he waits for that finger to grow back.
  23. From a player's standpoint I can see this deal being a benchmark. But this is the Rockies, the team that gave Ian Desmond $70M to play a position he's never played and re-signed Carlos Gonzalez to an above market price and have no room for him. I don't think any clubs are going model their system after the Rockies.
