  1. Geez, that sounds more violent than normal for the Twins. I hope they at least rolled to a stop first.
  2. I take Darvish. I only care about this team being formidable in the playoffs and I don't have any faith in Lynn or Odorizzi matching up with the top of the other rotations in the AL. That said, they couldn't/didn't get Darvish. The front office was active and bold. I don't like all the players brought in, but they made splashes unlike any other year. I'm glad for the effort and the deals are short, they can try again next year.
  3. Not bad. One year deals are winners in my book. Hard to screw them up.
  4. The rest of the months count much less. He made the wise decision to work his four seamer and reduce his two seamer those months while Lynn did the opposite. His improvement was most likely due to a change in philosophy; who in their right mind would dump him after he finally demonstrated that he understood what his problem was, took action on it and succeeded?
  5. No team wants Hughes and his contract, the Twins couldn't trade him even if they ate 90% of his contract. Gibson wasn't expensive and he was the Twins best starter the last three months of last year.
  6. How is it any different than if any of us get injured at work? If we are salaried employees under a contract we still get paid. If you're an hourly employee you get workman's comp/disability. Not paying an injured employee is real third world kind of balony. Should WNBA players also not get maternity leave?
  7. Isn't CC the line you copy someone on an email? As if Dave was suggesting the Twins sign Arrieta and he wanted the Twins copied on this announcement.
  8. I thought the title of the thread was clear enough that this was Dave's own personal suggestion, and not based on any actual knowledge. I may need to define the title as such if this is making anyone think this is a rumor.
  9. And that's not even showing how poorly rated his very rarely used offspeed stuff is: 2017 - FB 15.4 SL 4.9 CB -2.4 CH -4.4 And Fangraphs calling his breaking pitch a slider is generous, Brooksbaseball thinks it's simply a cutter: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=458681&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=month&minmax=ci&var=pcount&s_type=2&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=03/09/2018
  10. So the Royals are paying Mike Moustakas who had his best year last year and who fills a need at 3B $6.5M to return and the Rockies are paying Carlos Gonzalez who had his worst year last year and who they have no room for $8M to return. Some teams are better at this stuff than others. Colorado makes some of the most bizarre decisions each and every year.
  11. I'm typically not going to get too upset about losing the team's third pick, but to put it in perspective, this year it was Landon Leach, who might not be too exciting. However Leach was picked so as to allow the team to save money and get Blayne Enlow who is typically ranked as a top 10-15 prospect. Thus the Twins would have lost out on Leach and Enlow should they have made this move last year. I wouldn't give up Enlow for Lynn. But then again to be fair, everyone can see from my already stated views that I'd think twice about giving up a BOGO coupon to Chipotle for Lynn so my opinion of what he's worth isn't on par with others.
  12. Those middle relievers probably had a usable off speed pitch.
  13. How would the team be subtracting the Hughes/Gibson salaries?
  14. So am I just being a conspiracy nut, or has it crossed anyone else's mind that Russia is pulling the strings here in an attempt to set Trump and the GOP up for a huge win?
  15. My position has long been that Lynn is unlikely to continue to be a league average pitcher.
  16. It would appear......absolutely no one? Maybe it's the Russians.
  17. If that's the goal why not just sign John Lackey for $4M and one year?* *Note: That was not an endorsement to sign John Lackey.
  18. If the new regime believed in Lance Lynn's WAR, they would have signed him long ago and for much more than 2 years $20M. I'm not ripping on the front office, they've shown nothing to indicate they believe Lynn is anything more than a back of the rotation guy. I'm saying Lynn isn't nearly as good as the smoke and mirrors he trots out to the mound which are unlikely to follow him out of St. Louis. Also, the only thing that "proven" vets prove is that they've been around awhile. There's a reason teams are going younger. Being a vet does not necessarily make a better player, they just necessarily make them older.
  19. I don't think Lynn is obviously a better option than Mejia. People might speculate that he is, but there's nothing ever obvious about signing mid-level free agent pitchers and if anyone knows that, it's the Twins. Lynn's repertoire is bad, his peripheral stats are bad and his splits are bad. He's basically good measured on Wins and ERA. I don't trust that moving to a new league and a new team and a new stadium. Also, if this team is going to be a buyer mid-season, I'd rather save the money for then. They're not going to be able to find room for a Justin Verlander this July if they are already at their max payroll.
  20. I know I'm in the minority, but I trust Lance Lynn moving to the AL with a really mediocre fastball array and no true off speed pitch less that I trust Gibson.
  21. Not a fan of Lynn or the remaining free agent pitchers, but if he's signed to a deal I know the front office won't be worried about walking away from should he not pan out, it's fine by me.
  22. I agree, which makes the team's interest in Lynn a little puzzling. Gibson improved in the second half when he started using his 4 seamer more and really reduced his sinker usage. Lynn did just the opposite and went super heavy on the sinker all season but late in the year in particular. Unlike Gibson, Lynn doesn't really have a change or curve to use as offspeed pitches either. Does the front office think they'll be able to get Lynn to reduce his sinker? Do they think they can give him a usable offspeed pitch?
  23. Well if he was in the pen to start with they would be able to limit his innings better. If anything I'd think it would reduce his likelihood of injury if his innings are being moderated and his health is being monitored at the MLB level.
  24. Falvey can keep his phone turned off for the agents, none of the available pitchers appeal to me. Keep it on for the GM's, I'm still up for more trades.
  25. Even though I commented preciously about the fact that Romero must have a slim chance to make the team seeing as he wasn't among the fist cuts, I'd have to guess that slim chance lies solely in the bullpen. The team has little use for a 5th starter for the first month or so, it would make some sense to look at him as a swing man for the time being, this would also help the team manage his innings. The bullpen is looking much better this year, but there's still no iron lock for the role of long man.
