  1. Let's hope he's on a run of incorrectly choosing contenders.
  2. I hope the Twins get him back, but he was the guy who when left unprotected I thought had the best chance of sticking in the majors. Man, it really seemed like his numbers were overlooked last year. It'd be a bummer to lose him, however it is encouraging that he figured this out last year while still in the Twins organization. It used to be where guys had revelations about their approach only after leaving the Twins.
  3. If Lynn or Cobb will come over on a 1 year deal OK. Otherwise I have no interest in them. To me both pitchers look more likely to bust than to benefit. I'd rather this team spend it's money but I don't want to tie up roster spots long term for guys I don't like. I like Danny Duffy, I like Chris Archer, but among starters who maybe, possibly are available, that's about it as far as quality goes. At this point if those two aren't on the table, I'd rather wait and make a move midseason. All the talk these days is about tanking and rebuilding so teams might be more willing to waive the white flag and move assets earlier than they used to. Let's see if the Mariners have a terrible start and will listen on James Paxon. The Mets think they'll compete; funny joke. Maybe in a couple months they'll listen on one of their big arms. The Orioles, Blue Jays, Dbacks, Cardinals and Rockies also have the looks of teams that could possibly go south despite high expectations, and they all have starters I'd be interested in.
  4. I agree and good luck to him. I would also add, that in the hypothetical situation in which a player WANTED to stay with his club past his current contract but the club had at that time not approached him about a contract extension, jabbering away about the excitement of free agency to the media would probably be the way I'd go to see if I could get their attention.
  5. Well it's a minor league deal so there's a decent chance he fits into their roster just as well as Erick Aybar fits into the Twins. Has the front office signed anyone from Cleveland in the past two seasons? If so, sign me up, they've been really good and have developed some nice players.
  6. With Santana out and the tenuous certainty of every starter outside of Berrios, I think the last man in the bullpen is going to be a starter, either Slegers or Hughes would be my guess. I'd love for it to be Romero, but that's probably too bold. Gonsalves would make sense if the lefty reliever options didn't already go three deep.
  7. And frankly, his statements sounded like they were taken right out of the Trump playbook.
  8. Archer and Colome probably.
  9. I'm all for calling back our troops from the middle east and finding law enforcement jobs for them. But our police officers are not supposed to be military personnel.
  10. Why are you relying on his superiors to judge him? They are the ones who need to be held accountable considering how many reports about the shooter were filed prior to the massacre. The Sheriff is a flat out lunatic: Asked whether the killings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS might have been averted if his office followed up on a slew of prior calls about the shooter being mentally unhinged, Sheriff Scott Israel responded with an absurd answer. “If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, OJ Simpson would still be in the record books,” he said. An incredulous Tapper asked, “Are you really not taking any responsibility for the multiple red flags that were brought to the attention of the Broward sheriff’s office about this shooter before this incident, whether it was people near him, close to him calling the police?” Israel replied, “Jake, I can only take responsibility for what I knew about. I exercised my due diligence. I’ve given amazing leadership to this agency.” Tapper shot back, “Amazing leadership?” This guy has no business being anyone's boss let alone sheriff, probably because the public safety the sheriff's office is supposed to provide should not be run by someone who is elected to the job but instead by someone who has proven worthy through related experiences. Oh, and this sheriff who is such an expert followed all that up with this: Tapper said Israel’s office listed 23 incidents involving Cruz and asked why nothing was done to keep a gun out of his hands, secure the school or keep an eye on him. “On 16 of those cases, our deputies did everything right. Our deputies have done amazing things. … In five years, we’ve taken the Broward Sheriff’s Department to new levels,” he said. So this wonderboy acknowledges that there were 23 incidents involving the shooter and SIXTEEN were handled property as if a 70% rate is anything to brag about! Let alone NOT TAKING ACTION AFTER INCIDENT #2! If this deputy knew that his training from his incompetent sheriff was as substandard as his boss clearly is, yeah, he knows his odds of making it out of that school alive are slim.
  11. I agree. One of the castoffs has to be pretty dang good though. I'm not thinking 3-4ish, more like 2-3ish. It'd have to be peak Sanchez or Hughes or Gibson hitting his long lost potential. I would be putting my money on Trevor May to most likely be the guy if he wasn't starting off the year in his current condition and likely way behind these guys in pecking order.
  12. I've always been on the platform that 95% of the players are going to have to adjust to the MLB the hard way and you'll never be able to prep these guys at AAA enough to avoid it, so I'd like them to take their lumps early in the season (or in a season where taking lumps won't matter). I also think the adjustment for hitters and pitchers is completely different. The pitchers are the causation to the batters reaction. Therefore it's the batters that have to FIRST learn to adjust to the pitchers. Sometimes the batter does it in two pitches, sometimes it's two batters or two innings or two starts. However we see it an awful lot where a young pitcher comes up and he's rolling for two months, heck maybe his entire rookie year until the batters figure out the pitcher and make their adjustments. So it often isn't until that point where the pitcher actually has to learn to adjust to MLB hitting. Of course this speaks nothing of being able to throw strikes. You have to be able to get them over right away.
  13. So this quote: “It’s not a matter of not appreciating advancements in the game. It’s not that,” says Clark. “As it relates to a pitch clock or not a pitch clock, the guys - on its most fundamental basis – just don’t believe that a pace of game violation should potentially change ... the outcome of a game.” Yeah, I'm guessing the players don't want a pace of play violation to impact the outcome of the game. Isn't that the motivation being wielded to get these guys to pitch/bat faster?
  14. Oscar Meyer. And yes, I am suggesting it be a Weinermobilecart.
  15. I think I've seen that movie, the bet was one dollar. It'll all work out though. Chargois and LoMo are going to band together and stick it to Falvine with the help of Jamie Lee Curtis and the dean from Indiana Jones' university.
  16. I don't think unrealistic over-confidence in one's own abilities and one's work ethic are necessarily tied together.
  17. I like the move a lot. One year deals with options are really nice. I would have preferred a RH bat but there's not a lot available and Morrison did hit lefties pretty well last year. The fact that he bought into and succeded with the new flyball/launch angle phrnomenon is very encouraging. We'll have to mark down 2018 as the year the Twins signed a guy to a low dollar/no commitment deal who hit 38 HR the prior year, and it was largely met with "Eh" from the league and the fan base.
  18. Perhaps not, or perhaps the context has shifted or there's a different quote I can't find, but that was the narrative around here. Gardy or Ryan were getting taken to task for being callous and it was the height of the hysteria regarding the training staff.
  19. Both of Hughes' off speed pitches are emphatically his worst. He only picked up his change again last year after shelving it for half a decade to try to work in more off speed stuff. If he doesn't get his velocity back he's cooked, which is too bad.
  20. It would be a good time for the FBI to add the NRA to the list of domestic terrorist organizations on the grounds that they aid and facilitate domestic terrorism. It's not like the FBI is on very good terms with that demographic at the moment anyway. Well I'd make me smile at least.
  21. Which part? http://m.startribune.com/reusse-baker-a-source-of-frustration-but-twins-options-few/144309615/ Gardy did call him out, but from the way he says it, Baker told him he was fine. I just recall it being a big deal around Twins nation.
  22. Joe Nathan in 2010 had many unfortunate consequences. Was it 2012 when Gardy called out Scott Baker for not being tough only for Baker to end up needing TJ surgery?
  23. X Rays are negative. It was a hustle play, I think your stretching blaming Thibs. Not that I don't agree that he has to reduce the minutes of the starters.
  24. Nowhere else are they expected to die to stop a bad guy with a gun. They are supposed to wait for backup in every other situation. It's kids I get it, we're all upset. But if it was my son or daughter, or wife or father who was the resource officer, I would not want them going in.
  25. Funny, I came here after posting a completely unprofessional post and pic in the Eric Aybar thread. Moderators feel free to infract me.
