  1. I want Archie Bradley and would stick him back into the rotation. And I realize he'd not be cheap.
  2. I agree, but historically that hasn't been the mindset of the manager/GM. There always had to be a token lefty in the rotation. It's not that I'm super low on Mejia, but it'd be nice if the lefty didn't have to fall into the #5 spot. Things may be different now with the new front office but Hector Santiago, Tommy Milone, Andrew Albers, Scott Diamond and Brian Duensing suggest this club historically has wedged lefties into the rotation even if they did not happen to be one of the best five starters. Low bar, I know.
  3. The Cape seems to be the showcase league for amateurs looking to put a mark on their draft forecast.
  4. Bode Miller is the Tom Kelly of Olympic announcers. He is sooooo emotionless but very informative about his discipline.
  5. Chrome and TD forced me to change and I thought it would be difficult for me. It really wasn't, I'm capable of evolution!
  6. I would have too, but I'd guess being a 3rd OF was more appealing to him. Not sure if that'll happen with the Rays, but it's probably more likely. In my opinion the affordability of corner outfielders is all the more reason to trade Kepler if someone is over-valuing him as reported.
  7. That doesn't seem to be uncommon with 24-year-olds. I've been saying for a couple of years that hopefully he sees the light if he struggles, fails and finds that life isn't going to be quite as easy as it appeared with youthful eyes. I took awhile to learn that lesson, I'm guessing many other young folks have too. I was hoping this off season would be the year for him, but with the off field stuff and the injury, it may not be.
  8. With Mejia being the only lefty, and with his grip on a rotation spot likely hinging on that very fact, I'd like to see the Twins try to get Danny Duffy. Previously I thought that the ask for him would be painfully high, but he had the off field issue with booze and he does earn a healthy paycheck the next four years. After watching TB do everything they could to shed payroll, now that the Royals aren't going to keep any of Hosmer/Moustakis/Cain they might be interested in following suit and Duffy's paychecks going forward don't look nearly like the bargain they did prior to this off season.
  9. Brothers has good burgers but if your going during a busy Twins game getting food can be a bit of a wait. Though that goes for most near-stadium eateries. I didn't realize Brothers was a chain until last time I went there. I can't say why that disappointed me, other than to say I'm a 'local' snob. The BBQ pork sandwich with slaw at Gluek's was really good.
  10. Excellent answers to all of those questions in my view.
  11. Wow, yeah those are three Twins hallmarks. Got to be the front runner. He also has a pedigree seeing as his brother is already in the league.
  12. I think it shouldn't fail to be recognized that for all of our angst about payroll and missing out on free agents, it could be much, much worse. Holy hell, can anyone imagine what it would be like if we were TB fans right now where the team is making no effort to re-sign Cobb or Logan Morrison, cut a guy who had a .815 OPS last year, traded Odorizzi for a song and the face of their franchise for a couple of guys who few are excited about any longer?
  13. Perhaps better advice would be for him to drop four pitches and become a retiree.
  14. I sure hope Santana and Gibson receive invites to the anti-moonshot seminar too.
  15. To be fair, moving the needle in February means squat compared to moving the needle in October. If they're right and they can fix these guys I guess then they get to be right all along. Not that I think that's the case here at all. Even at their career peaks I wouldn't want Sanchez or Odorizzi leading a rotation into the post season.
  16. Moderator note: Let's keep this on topic. Leave out the prognosticating acumen of other posters and of ourselves.
  17. Probably Norwegians that hunt and who realized that skiing was a better way of moving around than tromping through three foot high snowdrifts. I guess I don't like the idea that all Olympic sports need to conform to an Americanized vision of fun and entertainment. I love the Olympics, summer and winter. I probably get a bigger kick out of watching the events I would never see outside of the Olympics. These men and women are just as invested in their discipline as Lebron James and Tom Brady are. I'm kind of a when in Rome guy though. I also only drink local beer of which ever vicinity I find myself.
  18. Back to my HS days, the first teacher that comes to my mind when thinking about who would WANT to be armed, is absolutely the last guy that should be armed. If I remember the newspapers correctly, it took multiple officers to get him out of the district building after the school board finally got the nerve to not renew his contract.
  19. Right, but I was refuting that the current moves have anything to do with judging their "enlightenment". I'd think failure to get better pitchers more likely stems from tentativeness, frugality, an unfavorable destination for free agents or other reasons. I don't know that it has much to do with enlightenment:
  20. Zero WAR is still better than -2 WAR. I'm just baffled how this conversation even started. Was the front office really brainstorming and thought, how about Anibal Sanchez? Let's give him a call!
  21. You mean Falvey, Levine and Jim Pohlad were fooling themselves. The fans optimism stemmed from repeated comments from all of them that they were trying to get Darvish.
  22. To be fair though, if the Twins were going to walk away from the off season with only one of those names as their only starting pitching acquisition, they might as well not do anything at all because inking one of those guys to a token deal isn't going to bring out any fewer pitchforks.
