  1. Depends, I can't see that link. Is Rafael Palmeiro on the list?
  2. What does aggressive dialogue sound like? Are they talking like pirates? Or is it like when you enunciate so boldly that spittle flies from your lips?
  3. Once they pulled the plug on Breslow, Tonkin and Haley, and once they stopped farting around with AAAA guys like Turley, Wilk, Wimmers, Rucinski and Wheeler they were pretty good. Like I said, I'm not going to turn down bullpen upgrades, but I think much bigger strides would have been made (will be made, fingers crossed) if the current front of the rotation is bumped to the mid-rotation and if a better RHB replaces Robbie Grossman/Kepler than there will be with Rodney displacing Busenitz and Duke displacing Moya. Those spots looked less in need of an upgrade.
  4. Saying nothing of the qualify of that 1 SP. And I personally think they need 2. I'm really not OK with the idea that buffing up the bullpen is going to put this club over the top. Last year a lot of the young bats surpassed expectations and the rotation got by (barely) on smoke and mirrors. I'm not going to say no to bullpen upgrades, but to me, last year's bullpen looked to be the unit most likely to sustain last year's results and in fact improve upon them. My priorities still would have been SP, SP, big right-handed bat, bullpen. I too am OK with dealing prospects to avoid the inevitable rotation disappointment.
  5. Got something here you might like. May I interest you in:
  6. The social contract GB has with thier community is that all fans will constantly be drunk and bragadicious about the team and the team will pretend Green Bay isn't a dump.
  7. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=502043&time=&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=02/04/2018&s_type=2 Sure, but he never changed his approach. If you look at the last two months of 2017 you'll see a large increase in his four seamer and a large decrease in the sinker. He'd never done anything close to that before. If he goes back to being a sinkerball pitcher after finally having success after he stopped, I'm done with him. But he'd have to be foolish to go back to what wasn't working.
  8. You have trickle down wrong, as does the Conservative party as a whole, though they know better but don't care. The wealthy ALWAYS end up the the money, it's not a pyramid with the wealthy at the peak making it rain for the peons, it's an inverted pyramid, the money flows through everyone else before getting to them. In order for it to trickle down it has to go to the consumers, that is, the middle class. They spend, it then makes its way to the wealthy. What you're asking for is trickle up which is completely illogical. "Trickle down" was simply a clever idiom by Reagan's crew to cut out the middle step in getting money to the wealthy because they didn't trust the middle class to spend, they feared they may save. Also this "jobs creators" stuff is just plain inaccurate. Corporations aren't creating jobs because they suddenly find themselves with money. You'd have to be a terrible buisenssman to create a job that's not needed just for the hell of it. Jobs are created because of Capitalism's main tenet: supply and demand. Jobs get created because they are needed and they will profit the businessman. But you don't get demand by feeding the wealthy, there are too few of them and they have no spending power. You give twenty millionaires one million dollars, they still only buy twenty cars. You give 1000 Average Joes $20,000 they'll buy 1000 cars.
  9. I'm not counting on any starter but Barrios at this point, but Gibson's ups and downs have never coincided with such an increase in strikeouts before. I had never been a Gibson guy as his sinker usage drove me crazy. I started to get interested last off season as I thought the new FO would model their Gibson agenda after the Cleveland staff, that is have him focus on his stuff that misses bats. He didn't do that in the first half, but he absolutely did after his call up. I think there's much more reason for optimism with him now than in the past when he was intentionally trying to put the ball in play.
  10. I don't see anyone who wants Darvish caterwauling about the Mauer deal. It doesn't and never has been a problem with payroll. Whatever deal Darvish gets this year is going to look like a bargain come next winter after the big clubs jump back into the deep end of free agency. Next year is going to usher in a new level of spending, if the Twins don't get Darvish now, they might as well just pour all their resources on developing an ace because they won't be able to compete for a front of the rotation arm again unless a salary cap is instituted. It's now or never. If it's never we're probably going to have to start over.
  11. Well it sounds like he wants the Dodgers, which could mean two things. One, he actually wants the Dodgers, or Two, he wants the Dodgers to get other teams to up the offers to six years. But as long as the Dodgers are unable to get someone to take Matt Kemp's salary, they probably aren't going to clear enough to get Darvish AND get below the salary tax threshold. If they cared more about signing Darvish than getting below the threshold, they'd already have done it. I can't imagine the Dodgers will be able to shed Kemp's salary so Darvish is probably just crossing his fingers at this point. And in this case, I'm just fine if the Twins happened to be runner up because runner up is probably going to take the prize. Just don't take third place.
  12. I can't tell a lie, I was excited when the Twins drafted Buxton, but I was hoping it was going to be Appel.
  13. I played baseball with the neighborhood kids without an umpire of any kind. We used ghost runners too. Seems to me baseball has all kinds of room for flexibility and optimization.
  14. How about we compromise. We have robots, but the balls/strikes are instantaneously related to the umpire who still gets to make the call. Now those of us who want a fair and consistent zone get it, and those who don't like aesthetic changes can keep everything looking the same. And for what it's worth, if they had robots in 1880, they'd have been calling balls and strikes. I think personal traditions are great. Some family traditions are fun too, but with a large community, the essential aspects of an institution should not be reliant on tradition. EVERYONE shouldn't be beholden to and obligated by some quirky gimmick based on some antiquated premise of years past.
  15. The Vikings were named BY a Scandinavian community. The Fighting Irish were named BY Irish Catholics. I'd gues many of those names were named BY or FOR the communities they are found in. Show me a school or sports team that was created BY Natives FOR Natives and I'll agree, the name should stick. Also most of these examples listed here are occupations not ethnicities, I'd hope people understand the difference between something you choose to do and something you do not choose to be. If the Twins were a culturally offensive name and had to be changed, I'd get over it in about five minutes. I cheer for the team, not the logo. What's wrong with people that they wrap themselves up with a stupid mascot so tightly that they act like changing it will destroy their life?
  16. So was segregation, smoking in the dugout and actual monuments in the outfield of Yankee Stadium. The goal of baseball, just as in the rest of life, should be to always look for ways to improve.
  17. Archer is cheap financially, getting Darvish or Arrieta should not preclude the Twins from getting him.
  18. At first I was jealous of Milwaukee's aggressive moves, the I figured if our smaller market neighbor in the NL wants to make a spectacle, our guys have to take notice and feel the pressure.
  19. Clearly the offense would be better with him, I was just suggesting 20-30 games may not be season altering as we saw it wasn't last year. With or without Sano this team's issues are still in the rotation.
  20. Right now all I really care about are the 9 innings that the team will need to fill for game 163.
  21. I would have agreed before last year, but the team seemed to play better without Sano. Not saying the team is better off without him, just that the offense still worked quite well with him rehabbing.
  22. I see zero WS trophies since 1991. I haven't seen a playoff win in over a decade and a half. This team hasn't won squat. Getting to the playoffs and losing ASAP isn't good enough for most of us, and that's right where they're headed once again unless they get significantly better starters.
  23. This is all good news. The best currency in baseball is stud young pitching, but the second best is stud young shortstops. I really hope the team is able to elevate these guys' play to time their peak value with feasible trade opportunities.
  24. Holding aside the fact that Nick Blackburn is a terrible comp for Darvish in just about every way you can evaluate pitchers, if your scenario holds true, at least they'll be giving themselves a shot to win in the first 2-3 years. So what if the last couple he's not worth his contract?
