  1. So the Padres snagged Dave Cameron huh? https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-one-i-never-thought-i-would-write/ Sad for Fangraphs, good for Dave. Probably good for the Padres but TBD.
  2. A great addition to the site, a welcome return. Ditto for a Rooker interview!
  3. Well this was the disclaimer right away: For each organization, we identify the 10 prospects with the highest ceilings, with consideration given to the likelihood of reaching those ceilings. So yeah, that list looks about right if they are putting the most weight on ceilings. Graterol is almost all ceiling and everyone has pretty much been saying since Day 1 that Gordon just has a really high floor but isn't going to excel in any one area. But Lewis as the top INF defender? Yeah, take that pre-draft doubters. Good athletes can learn footwork. That always sounded like such a hollow criticism; if he didn't have good footwork, it's almost certainly due to not having elite instruction. Now he does.
  4. Right, but the fans and the players can ask the same question to the owners.
  5. I think if Darvish and his agent were only in it to pump up the other teams they would have had a highly publicized meeting with the Twins to leverage the other clubs. As counter-intuitive as it might sound, to me it looks like it's been the opposite, meetings with other teams may be used to leverage the Twins. Honestly my optimism is still quite modest but I'll admit it may present itself as more grand as I'm out of practice using it.
  6. I think the Twins are going to get lucky and snag him on a reasonable deal while most of the big clubs shed payroll and bid their time for the 2019 class. The Twins know they can't participate with the crazy money that 2019 will throw around and at that time plenty of teams are going to look back just 12 months and think about how free agents in 2018 went for peanuts despite what the perception was at the time. But I bet the Twins hook him with an opt out after year two or three, so they better not get too self satisfied, there's still plenty of work to do if they want to win a title in that window, Darvish alone doesn't make this club one of the favorites in the AL.
  7. Totally disagree; in the case of sexual harassment it is simple. Intimating or expressing the wish for sexual encounters, jokes or comments toward an unwanted party is sexual harassment, if you don't know if it's unwanted, assume it is. Awkward pick up guy can say, your dress looks nice. Awkward pick up guy cannot say your dress would look nice crumbled up in a ball on my bedroom floor. Sorry, we used to think it was funny, but it's a new world and changing the very day, men better get used to it.
  8. Seems like awkward schmuck wouldn't have to worry about any blurred lines if his pick-up lines were not of a sexual nature.
  9. And while a bunch will surely sign in the next two months, I have a feeling there are going to be a ton of vets that no one would have ever envisioned being out of a job three months ago, actually out of a job. Teams do look like they're playing hardball with the free agents, but I think they're playing from solid footing. More so than in a long time, organizations seem very content to give the young, eager, healthy and most importantly cheap young players already in their system priority when it comes to filling out the rosters.
  10. Tillman looks like the kind of guy who could end up having a nice 2nd career out of the pen. But he's going to get another shot at starting this year, and the Twins already have a half dozen guys who should be fighting for the 5th spot. So maybe next year if he understands going in that he's destined for the pen?
  11. I like these small scope past reflections. Good stuff David!
  12. I mean, hasn't everyone already clicked on all of them?! Well done Tom, great addition to the site!
  13. I guess that link is blocked by my work. It has to be 1998 in my view, but I can see this as a generational bit meaning we're all going to have some biases based on age at the time of the losses. 2009 was brutal but easier on me as I my innocence had already been lost 11 years prior. I'd guess others felt the same in 1998 as their innocence had already been lost when Drew Pearson physically assaulted Vikings Nation via Nate Wright.
  14. But we have no idea what these "meetings" really are. For all we know Darvish had to retrieve some personal items from Dallas and Jon Daniels just met him at Braum's for lunch. The more I think about it, the more the article's conclusions ring hallow. The Twins have voiced interest very publicly, even if he didn't want to come to Minnesota, Darvish and his agent would be the league's worst negotiators not to use the Twins and a meeting to leverage his desired team. A meeting of some nature will occur, even if it's for show.
  15. Woo hoo! You heard it here first, no backsies!
  16. In the case of Texas, it was probably pretty easy to get a meeting considering he still likely has(had) a home there.
  17. Well Votto is getting old, but he's still productive .
  18. I'm less hopeful than I was before the Rangers and Astros scored early auditions, but that was my thought as well. Did Matt Belisle come for a visit last year? It sounded like Michael Cuddyer told him to come and they faxed him a contract.
  19. Well I'd be lying if I didn't claim my post clearly was laughing at BOTH the years and the dollars, but as Twins fans, we know all to well that money doesn't matter . But just sorting out the 1B types on Fangraphs I see Buster Posey, Cody Bellinger, Ryan Zimmerman, Logan Morrison, Carlos Santana, Matt Carpenter, Joey Gallo, Yonder Alonso, Joe Mauer, Eric Thames, Yuli Gurriel, Wil Myers, Trey Mancini, Mark Reynolds, Ryon Healy, Chris Davis and Miguel Cabrera all playing 1B but who are only there by default due to over-crowding at another position, decreased defensive abilities or needing regular off days from a more demanding position. It's like every team's free get-out-of-a-pickle position, I'd only tie it up long term for elite guys like Goldschmidt, Votto or Brent Rooker.
  20. I have less problem with the dollars than I do with the years. Tying up 1B for the better part of a decade with a completely average hitter seems like a poor decision in an age where 1B has largely been relegated as the spot to allow for team-wide positional flexibility.
  21. I'm hoping this is just the equivalent of the body excreting infected pus due to the natural process of expelling an unwanted foreign substance that is doing the body no good. In the end all the gross stuff is just part of the process of getting rid of the unwanted but we ultimately heal with only a scar to show for the ordeal.
  22. I'm in the minority, but I think Mauer goes elsewhere. Specifically, TB which is near where he currently resides when he's not playing for the Twins. TB consistently signs recycled veteran first basemen: James Loney, Carlos Pena, Casey Kotchman and most recently Logan Morrison. They tend to rebound nicely there too.
  23. The Padres and Royals are in a bidding war for Eric Hosmer and it's supposedly up to 7 years at over $20M per?! What am I missing? I guess KC could claim that sentimentality is worth 100M, what's San Diego's excuse? Don't these teams know that average to slightly above average 1B can be bought at Cosco two-for-the-price-of-one at a fraction of that price these days?
  24. Which one are you talking about?
