  1. The new intentional walk rule should probably be used by the opposing manager as soon as he recognizes the situation. Get the at bat over as soon as the batter steps in the box before the violating team can take any remedy.
  2. Those are both speculative players. I don't care if one of them wins the 2B job, but either way there's room on the 25 man for Escobar. I'd be more than happy if he played a vintage Ben Zobrist role; not knowing where he's going to play until he shows up to the stadium and not caring which position it is as long as he gets to hit.
  3. You will be perma-banned should we find out that you caused Gibson to backslide.
  4. Sports in the 21st century have seemed to evolve dramatically and in a short period of time. My crystal ball says some team is going to have success by somehow increasing contact (probably with a particular type of players who aren't expensive) OR a team figuring out how to consistently beat today's new launch angle craze (high fastballs?) and the rest of the copy-cats follow suit. My crystal ball says the next fad is going to be precision bunting. No one will be swinging the bat, they'll all be trying to reach on bunt singles. You guys are going to love it!
  5. I want Mussolini on the mound, Crash. Let the outfielders pick dandelions and the infielders build sand castles.
  6. Berrios? Heck I thought that was Scherzer and Strausburg! Well done boys.
  7. Above others, I was hoping for an Escobar extension last winter; it would have been pretty cheap and he's pretty versatile. Might not be cheap anymore.
  8. I might question the big bat part. Have you seen the Twins' DHs this decade?
  9. Dick: There's nothing wrong with red wine. Torii: What about 4 or 5 glasses. Dick: Awkward change of subject.
  10. Did Dick just advocate for robo-umps?!? I would have bet all of my money on him voting the opposite.
  11. Wow, if I were to picture in my mind what a stereotypical catcher looks like, it would be Bobby Wilson exactly.
  12. Oof, Dick and Torii's schtick about long names.... Laurel and Hardy have nothing on them.
  13. I didn't mean to imply that you or anyone else here is satisfied with another mere playoff appearance. It's just that we still haven't seen the club make moves like they are actually planning on bringing home a trophy. They had a lot of action this past off season but I don't think anyone was under the impression that these guys were anywhere near the level of the Astros, Red Sox and Yankees.
  14. This team doesn't have the starting pitching to be on the precipice of any kind of genuine window. They tried the "hold on to the prospects" approach last decade. Why do they have to try the same thing again? What's wrong with giving a different approach a shot? Plenty of teams choose to aggressively make a run instead of bide their time until all the magical moments all match up. I don't believe that I am the only one who would have rather had the Royals short four year window that included two WS appearances and a win over the Twins decade of sustained winning seasons and no trophies to show for it.
  15. Win or lose, if they go get 2018's version of Justin Verlander I'll be satisfied that they've put in an appropriate effort to do what is needed to hedge their bets in an attempt to win it all, not just make an appearance.
  16. He did move the goal posts, but I'd argue that's where they should have been all along. I'm not going to be satisfied in the least if this team manages to win the dopey WC game only to get bounced in the next round. As Twins fans we are long past due for a WS trophy let alone an appearance. But it certainly does seem like the yearly goal set by this team is to get to the playoffs and go with the chip-chair-and-a-chance mentality from there, which conveniently lays the ground work for any number of excuses when it doesn't pan out.
  17. Cleveland also has a loaded rotation. Getting front line starters mid-season takes way more equity than getting bullpen help or additional bats. The Twins are still missing the big starting arms which means they're at a pretty significant disadvantage when it comes to restructuring on the fly.
  18. They had some good teams, but they didn't put their thumb on the scale anything like most of the teams that have won the WS most of this past century.
  19. I guess I could have clarified but I was referring to a ready-made ace, someone who could have put a contending team over the top so as they'd be an overwhelming favorite going into the post season; CC Sabathia, Zach Greinke, Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay. And if Morris and Smiley weren't that guy, I really don't care as I'm not trying to promote a who's-better-than-who GM discussion so much as I want my favorite team to start behaving differently. More aggressively for sure; quality over quantity from here on out please.
  20. It's not a game of chance though, not only is it allowable but it is encouraged to tilt the odds in your favor. Since McPhail left this team has never acquired an ace. They were among the last teams to take advantage of statistics even though math is free. They held onto managers, coaches, front office personnel and players after they became liabilities not before. Yeah, there's some luck and they can go into each and every post season with their fingers crossed and nothing more, but they are allowed to stack the deck and if they're not, then they aren't being completely honest about how far they are actually willing to go to win.
  21. Oof, thanks for taking one for the team.
  22. I've noticed a negative correlation between the number of curses I utter at the Twins watching them on TV and actual Twins wins. I will attempt to curse at my TV less in an attempt to influence more wins. I apologize for doing it so regularly as of late.
  23. I want Sano to get in shape. I also want Reusse an Souhan to stop recycling their material monthly.
  24. I heard Paul O'Niell was forced to do that in exchange for retrieving George Steinbrenner's birthday card once.
  25. That would presume that AAA innings don't have any impact on their arms?
