  1. I don't know, giving up 100 runs in a game would be tough, even with this bullpen.
  2. The Vikings didn't need interior line, they needed a tackle so Remmers could move inside. O'Niell was the first actual projected Tackle picked since Kolten Miller was selected. Looks like the Vikings got the top Tackle on their board that was available to them even back at their first pick.
  3. I can't see how Enns or Myles Jaye would keep Gonsalves from a promotion. Hale either. Any of those guys could just as easily go to the pen or released. In fact, the team probably should have put Enns in the pan already considering how the MLB club's bullpen lefty situation has reached Armageddon's door step and they could use a miracle, no matter how remote.
  4. Excellent. I wonder where he falls in the pecking order now. I hope this Hale business isn't permanent and just a ruse to get him to AAA. I'm ready to see Bard and Reed and more of Busenitz and Curtis. Moya once again in short order as well.
  5. You mean because other teams reach for O lineman so they weren't available for the Vikings who drafted later? I'd bet if we go back and look at which teams reached for O lineman, they tend not to be good teams. Either way, after Miller went, the rest of the 1st round OL were guards and centers, and Will Hernandez who people seem to think the Vikings should have taken is a guard. I don't want interior lineman, I want a RT so they can kick Remmers inside, and I want a pass blocking RT because I think the league is going to move away from running the ball. Most of the top tackels currently on the board whom the Vikings may have drafted in round 1 are better graded as run blockers. The better pass blockers seem to be lower on the lists. I'd like Jamarco Jones, Geron Christian or Joseph Noteboom. Will Richardson might work too; maybe Levi's guy Tyrell Crosby. Some or all of these guys will be there for their 2nd pick and it wouldn't be surprising if one or more is there for their 3rd.
  6. There were only two maybe three O lineman in the draft who were actual legit round 1 talents and the Vikings would have had to jump up to #15 to get one. It took the Saints next year's 1st round pick to get to jump from #27 to #14.
  7. If Spielman can't draft decent OL, why should they keep drafting them? But they drafted Elflein in the 3rd just last year. I think we need to wait until after tonight to declare that Speilman never drafts lineman in the first 3 rounds.
  8. They also let their best lineman go in free agency. I guess I don't understand the frustration, it's only been one round.
  9. I think I like Jamarco Jones. He sounds like a pretty good pass protector and I think the offense will need to get away from the run if they don't want the RBs to regularly be getting flagged for the new rule against initiating contact with their helmet.
  10. Yeah, the Patriots, Packers, Steelers and Saints rarely have better than average lines. O Lines look good when the QB gets rid of the ball quick and/or bootlegs away from pressure.
  11. Well the first round linemen went to the Colts, 49ers, Raiders, Lions, Bengals and Patriots. It's hard to argue that at minimum four of those teams historically tend to be terrible at drafting. Why reach for an OL? No one still available at 30 seemed like they had separation from lineman that will be available at 62 or beyond.
  12. The line did fine with Keenum last year and it's no worse than what Cousins had last year in Washington. I think typically good QBs make linemen look good, not the other way around. I wasn't looking for a CB because they take too long to develop in Zimmer's system, but I wouldn't pretend to know which one's are better than the others for this specific defense. It seems to be that ballhawk types aren't a fit for this scheme, the corners don't seem to be allowed to jump routes except rarely on 5 yard outs when there's safety help.
  13. I would hope all of those issues were obsolete by the time they call up the next starter.
  14. Are they asking him to make adjustments because something is off in his mechanics? Or are his mechanics off because they asked him to make adjustments? I'm just wondering if they saw something they didn't like last year and asked him to make a change, or if they saw that he was doing something different this spring so they are asking him to change back.
  15. https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/tyler-kinley-designated-for-assignment/c-273931974 From a Lavine interview with Bollinger: "This is a guy we pursued this offseason," Twins general manager Thad Levine said of Hale. "We think we may have been the runners-up to the Yankees in terms of enticing him to come to Spring Training. UGH, why would you tell someone in the media that you were runners up to the Yankees in a contest for the services of David Hale?! Also on Slegers demotion: "We see him as a starter," Levine said. "The reason why we are sending down Slegers and bringing in Hale is to give Aaron a chance to go back in the rotation and be the next line of defense for us on the starting front." So Slegers, not Gonsalves, Romero or Mejia, is next in line to start.
  16. The Twins have about two maybe three guys I'd trust to go three innings, and they need nine to make your plan work? I'd rather Berrios pith 200 innings this year, not 162.
  17. I would have hoped that this team learned after last year that being a vet doesn't make a pitcher superior. Though I also would have hoped the young guys would be making a more compelling case to put them in high leverage situations.
  18. If the rebuild is over count me as extremely disappointed. They had a one-and-done playoff exit from a fluky team preceded by the worst year in club history and thus far followed by an embarrassingly incompetent first month of the season. There were more fans than not last year saying that this team was still nowhere near close to actually being a real contender due to the abysmal MLB pitching staff and the lack of top end talent in the minors. I see different faces but not results.
  19. Yeah, I'd rather give Busenitz another shot, followed by Reed and Curtis. They may not have read it as a correlation like I did, but the pen improved last year after the journeymen got the boot and the young guys got regular jobs.
  20. So 8 years for Houston? To keep up, seems to me the Twins are due to win the WS this year.
  21. Don't we have to wait for the Twins "complete rebuild" first to make that judgment?
  22. The Yankee's DFA'd him when they claimed former prospect A.J. Cole. Hale's only MLB action this year came against the Twins when he struck out three over 2 innings. Somehow that failed to impress the Yankee brass I guess. At least it impressed the Twins. Looks like he's almost exclusively been used in the rotation in the minors, but he'll likely find himself in the Twins pen. Here's to finding a diamond in the rough.
  23. Whatever benefit Castro's catching ability is supposed to provide to the pitchers, it's not working. His bat is broken and the pitchers are throwing way too many pitches regardless of any framing advantage, at this point I don't know where the harm is in seeing what Garver can do with regular playing time.
  24. Cody was promoted to Chattanooga last week. Thus far in 3 2/3 innings of relief he has allowed two earned runs and struck out five against three walks.
