  1. Yeah, I guess I wouldn't have said I'm bitter but maybe that's what it is. We've seen expansion teams in all the major sports in the last several decades and this was the first time that the league catered to the new guy on the block. I'm not sure if it was in deference to the powerful new ownership group, or more likely, if it was a fear that they'd put a team in a market they weren't sure could handle it, but no other franchises had the league bend over backwards for them like this. Now with their success you can believe that all the other leagues will be interested in expansion teams that win right away. Can't wait to see how the league lets a new team in Portland (or maybe they'll just copy cat and give one to LV too) leverage the new rules to make demands from the Twins.
  2. I don't agree with but understand the argument about not DFA'ing Grossman for Wade, but I really think it's about LaMarre. Even if Wade struggles hitting, his best skills are drawing walks and avoiding strikeouts. The Twins lineup, the bottom part in particular, have been killing this club by hacking at the first pitch and weakly putting the ball in play as soon as the game gets turned over to the other team's bullpen. Even if Wade doesn't hit, he should at least be able to give better at bats than what we're seeing.
  3. I don't know, after their top three batters Cleveland doesn't have much. If Cleveland isn't actively looking to upgrade every position outside of SS, 3B and LF they're probably doing the team a disservice.
  4. La Velle posted too many vulgarities. Our excellent TD filters blocked them helping your mind to remain pure.
  5. One of the league's best curveballs and one of the league's best sliders yet he farted around with a wimpy sinker as his primary pitch for half a decade. It's too bad for both him and the team he didn't figure it out sooner.
  6. How would it accomplish the same goal? The goal is to get him hitting like he was at the end of 2017. He could work on that in Rochester, not on the DL.
  7. Oh they've had years of practice hocking snake oil.
  8. Man, Dick and Bert are so quick to jump off the bandwagon of young guys when they hit a speed bump. Romero can be great for five outings and they'll sing his praises but one rough inning and everything gets critiqued harshly. Then when a vet stinks it up all year they look for praise under every rock.
  9. Buxton had all the right answers in that interview. It sounded like his head was in the right place which is good, I kind of figured part of his problem was confidence. I think I was wrong. I hope they let it fully heal this time then let him rehab plenty in Rochester, not recalling him until the bat looks better. Also, come on, give us Wade already. This team needs a lot of help working deep into counts and getting on base; it's probably the team's biggest problem. His bat is probably fine but even if it isn't, the bottom of the order needs better at bats, it's not hitting anyway.
  10. I really can't see MLB manipulating the testing. The benefit of doing something underhanded is minimal compared to the disaster that would happen should they get caught doing it. How hypocritical would they look if they were "cheating" to stop cheating? But image aside, all it would take is one leak or slip up and they'd be open to all kinds of lawsuits, any bargaining power with the MLBPA for the next negotiations and of course an insurmountable PR crisis involving human rights and racial profiling that would cost them advertisers, broadcasting partners and viewers from all over the world.
  11. So far it's seemed like Mauer, Dozier, Escobar, Kepler and Rosario have taken turns carrying the team. We have over a month to go and Dozier or Sano are a .950 OPS/10HR month away from taking the lead in the race for the Twins All Star representative. I'm putting my money on two Twins, Berrios and Dozier. Dozier mostly because the AL's going to have more than one 2B and currently the second best guy right now is Jed Lowrie. It's not going to take too much of a hot streak to vault him back to his usual spot behind Altuve.
  12. Ok, bed time. Everyone keep the riots to a whisper please.
  13. Did Dick just say Gibson may complete seven innings, before there was even one out in the sixth? Does he not understand jinxes?
  14. I think Rosario's hit got to LF quicker than Sano's. Plus Escobar is pretty cold lately. 2 for his last 27.
  15. Luck or bad luck, I say he should just play it safe and start working at just reducing that HR total. 12 is kind of an ugly number when it's not even June.
  16. The success of Berrios and Romero are the best thing that could happen for this club. They aren't able to get the kind of potential and electric stuff those two poses on the free agent market. One of these guys hitting their peak potential is the team's best shot at lining up against Kluber, Verlander, Sale or Severino in the playoffs. But perhaps more importantly, the more success these guys have, hopefully the more comfortable the front office is rolling with the young guys with the excellent stuff at the expense of the struggling vets. Hughes got a pretty quick hook. Hopefully they'd not give Santana too long of a leash if it's clear that it's just not going to work. Or if Gibson or Odorizzi revert back to their former selves.
  17. I'd guess Slegers as well, but they did surprise us with Romero much earlier than we expected. Maybe they'd break the seal on Gonsalves. I wouldn't think bullpenning would be the choice since there isn't a traditional long man in the pen.
  18. Gene Glynn is really good at his job.
  19. Yes, we are directing all of that nonsense out of the game threads. Discuss that stuff in the regular forums.
  20. You better tally one for each column with that post. Should be 4-5 now. Put me down for the HR, I'll even it out.
