  1. Obviously he's not seeing the ball well, he has weak contacts, keep up.
  2. Are there any coaches left to tell him not to?
  3. So you're saying if he switched spots with Wilson, Garver would become the Twins top defensive catcher? Man, that would make gamethreads even more hilarious.
  4. So if a manager doesn't get ejected for arguing a call that the rule book says is an automatic ejection because he successfully argues his point, is there actually any such thing as an automatic ejection? Balk should be reversed, manager should still get tossed.
  5. It would have been nice if they'd have drafted and developed some top end talent in the last decade or so that now would have matured into top marketable material. We used to fret about extending, trading or QO'ing guys like Hunter, Mauer, Morneau and Santana as free agency was rapidly approaching. Geez, I'd like to be fretting that right about now. No offense to Escobar, I love the guy, but he's not in that league.
  6. That's what happens why all you have to sell is 2nd and 3rd tier talent. Dozier picked a really bad time to fall off the map. Not that 2nd basemen league-wide have appeared to have a ton value lately.
  7. Well they seemed to make the decision to send Romero down because Odorizzi's terrible performance was killing the bullpen, a starter needed to go even if temporarily and it wasn't going to be Odorizzi if the team had an eye on salvaging any future trade value. Mejia doesn't look like a prime candidate to go, but he does look like one of those quasi-valued controllable throw-ins that teams add to sweeten the pot when they move a vet that will walk after the season so as the buyer still has something to show for the trade. I'd guess Belisle's situation likely had little to no impact on the Romero decision. I might not be following your reference there.
  8. I would think service time in Romero's case will likely never be an issue, but I could still see the front office thinking about it. However, if as Brain suggested the team is already planning for next year, it's also possible that they want to showcase as many movable parts with fewer years of control as possible for the next month. And that could include hoping for a rebound from Odorizzi and giving Mejia some spotlight.
  9. Cody struggled giving up two earned runs on four hits yesterday but overall he is putting together a strong season. He hasn't issued multiple walks in an outing since May 15th this despite the fact that he has become something of a multi inning reliever, working more than 3 outs in 12 of his last 15 appearances. Overall Cody is missing bats regularly sporting a 12.3 K/9 in AA.
  10. I agree, it's hard not to see this as based on Odorizzi and the desire to give him a longer leash for reasons the front office will keep to themselves. Hopefully this puts a bit of a chip on Romero's shoulder. Nothing irreconcilable, just something to motivate. I'm kind of a fan of pitchers with a chip on their shoulder. I mean unless they're in the broadcast booth.
  11. I was going to comment that if he takes Belisle's place I'm in. But I see something's off with Hendricks, he's lost 2 MPH in his FB since last year. Edit: Looks like he's lost a bit of velocity on his four-seamer but the biggest reason for the average velocity drop is that he's drastically reduced his four-seamer and increased his sinker usage. So basically the opposite of what everyone else in the league is doing. Which I guess is a pretty Billy Beane thing to do.
  12. That's all true and it's most apparent in their acquisitions of relievers and outfielders and middle infielders of dubious talent qualifications. Maybe I'm wrong, but there tend to be less usable starters available on the waiver wire. If true, then their hand might be forced.
  13. That's fine by me. Considering how the season is turning out I'd hope that means there will be extra opportunity for Gonsalves, Mejia, May or Littell to sand off some of their rough edges at the MLB level and get prepared to help next year on a contending team. Romero too if the team hasn't already decided to wind him down for the year.
  14. Locking this one. There is another thread going about this, perhaps we can try again there with cooler heads. Mine included.
  15. Yeah, the "unwritten rule" stuff tends to be not about respecting the game but about your opponent getting embarrassed. Getting blown out again when your team is 34-40 in a year they thought they were going to contend probably has some impact how closely these rules are followed.
  16. Molitor was explaining the beanings, his reasoning for the third was comical yet awful: ""The first one our pitcher (Jake Odorizzi) got his cleat caught in the dirt," Twins manager Paul Molitor said before Sunday's game. "The second one I think was a borderline strike. With the armor these guys wear, they don't worry about getting out of the way. And then the last time, we wanted to give him an opportunity to steal another base." https://www.twincities.com/2018/06/24/is-byron-buxton-on-his-way-back-to-the-twins/ As good as admitting it was retaliation. I'm not sure why admitting as much isn't suspendable.
  17. Molitor had 504 career steals, just think how many he would have had had he ran when his team was up five. Of course if he DID ever run when up five, even once, he should keep his hypocritical trap shut. And if he didn't ever do it and is just complaining about a guy who's been struggling in the league for six years and is desperate to impress in an effort to continue playing, he should also keep his trap shut. Edit: May 12th 1998 Molitor stole 2nd up three in the bottom of the 8th. May 30th 1998 Molitor steals second in the 7th inning in a 7-1 game! Those were his 2nd and 4th attempts in his farewell season. I probably didn't need to even bother doing the research at all but I know I don't have to go further to call BS on his BS.
  18. Not making an opinion as to whether he should get in or not, but that description sounds like the career trajectory of a significant portion of the Hall of Fame.
  19. Looks like we're going with the get-away-day lineup. Also it looks like the regular lineup too.
  20. If a GM has to make a poor roster decision simply to protect the players from getting overworked by the manager, I think you need a new manager.
  21. Nice work Van thanks to you and all the other proud game threaders for keeping on keeping on.
  22. Maybe. Wade and Gordon seem like pretty solid depth but they'd rather go with these journeymen AAAA players. The lack of offense almost seems partly intentional.
  23. Is it wrong that my affinity for Beltre and my hope to have Belisle removed had me cheering for Beltre in that situation during an already lost game?
