I thought the sneaky move would have been to kill her off while saving the day at the end of season 4, which would set up the rest of the cast in a David vs. Goliath situation for the final season. As it turned out, the end of ST was similar to Obi Wan. It seemed logical that the big bad would be too overwhelming for the protagonist, but in the end the protagonist wiped the floor with the big bad, yet still leaving everything on the brink of chaos.

3 Options for Josh Winder in the Second Half
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That does make it less likely he'd want to move. Not that it should be his call. 4 IP per start would be a fine idea if it wasn't disabling an already disastrous bullpen. As it is, it's just not sustainable. -
3 Options for Josh Winder in the Second Half
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd guess it was always a possibility because his contract had incentives that specified the number of APPEARANCES, not starts. Obviously he's going to have an easier time reaching his 26, 28, 30 and 32 appearance bonuses if he's in the pen as opposed to the rotation. So, he actually may be more than willing to do the move. -
3 Options for Josh Winder in the Second Half
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah, if his four inning starts turned into a couple of two inning bullpen outings a week, it would solve a lot of the Twins problems. I think his excellent slider is a great fit for a second career as a bullpen Ace as well. -

2022 Twins 10-round Mock Draft
nicksaviking replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Jeffers career minor league OPS is .829, Rortvedt's is .676. Rortvedt has never hit at any level. Jeffers too was originally called up from AA. I'd like to improve from Jeffers, but I'd still rather have Jeffers than Rortvedt. -
Yeah it was really good but I was already preparing for a major death or two. Seemed like the entire Beyers family could have been removed. No ill will, just their story really seemed to have little purpose after season two. Though I suppose they may be setting up Will for a bigger role in the final season. Which by the way has me a bit worried. Are they going to go from four seasons of small town conspiracies to some kind of hell-on-earth apocalypse show? That might be jarring. I kind of thought they'd set up the final season for a time jump so the actors could play kids closer to their real age. I'm not really sure how you time jump the finale though unless Eleven somehow fixes things in the opening scene.

2022 Twins 10-round Mock Draft
nicksaviking replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Are you talking about Ben Rortvedt? Between Garver, Jeffers and Rortvedt, Rortvedt was far and away the worst hitting of the bunch. His bat made Ryan Jeffers look like Babe Ruth. -
2022 Twins 10-round Mock Draft
nicksaviking replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Catcher is just not a strong position any longer. If you can get one of the top couple of catchers in the league, that's great, but there's no Mauer, Posey or Pudge separating themselves from the rest of the league, and the top guys tend to be only a bit better than an average hitter. Sorting the catchers with 200 PA by fWAR, the much maligned trio of Ryan Jeffers, Gary Sanchez and Mitch Garver are 11th, 12th and 13th. I mean, these guys are fairly average league-wide, but don't pass the eye test. I think chasing after a top end catcher is a bit of a fool's errand at the moment. It's unlikely you'll get one that gives you a significant advantage over the other teams; better to spend your resources on positions that might. -
Since the day the team drafted him, he’s tinkered with his approach, swing and mechanics. Many guys couldn’t handle as many changes as he’s made. I feel very comfortable with his bat adjusting as needed. Same as always, I’m really only concerned about his health

Twins Daily Draft Preview: Cam Collier
nicksaviking replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Yeah, assuming Jones, Holliday, Green and Lee don't fall, Collier is my choice should he be there. Maybe I need to get on the Termarr Johnson bandwagon too, his size is just hard to get over for me. -
Who is Part of the Twins' Long-Term Core Four?
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You were thinking Randy Bush too huh? Joking aside, few players have ever been as predictably consistent as Bush and Larkin. Dang good and year-in-year-out reliable bench bats. But yeah, bench bats aren't really 'core' material. No one's mentioning Nick Gordon and Gilbert Celestino this time around.- 84 replies

Pondering a Nelson Cruz Reunion
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I honestly don’t think Jim Pohlad would balk at that price tag. Not saying the Twins would or should take that salary on as there are bigger fish to fry, but if Falvey told him it was the best move, I think he’d do it. Of course if we wanted to paint Pohlad in that dollars and cents light, there are likely few players who would move the needle of casual Twins fans like the return of fan-favorite Nelson Cruz. Not 7M worth, but certainly his presence would produce some dividends. -
The Five Best Hitting Trade Targets for the Twins
nicksaviking replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Contreras Iis like a fun idea, but catcher just seems like the one position where it might backfire trying to bring a new guy into the equation. Half of his job is to understand and build a rapport with the 13 or so pitchers on the team. Seems like a task that works better in February and March.- 31 replies

Pondering a Nelson Cruz Reunion
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He has an OPS of .691 and he ONLY DHs. The Twins 24-year-olds Kirilloff, Celestino, Arraez, Larnach and Lewis all have done better than that. The only youngsters that haven't topped that mark are Jeffers, Jermaine Palacios in his measly 8 games and Jose Miranda who will probably eclipse that number if he gets a hit today. I like Cruz and I've already said it's not the worst idea in the world, but complaining about young players when the team is winning BECAUSE of the young players isn't a great look. -
Pondering a Nelson Cruz Reunion
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What makes you think a 42-year-old can? I count 13 42-year-olds (batters) who've had at least 100 PA this century. The odds of Cruz succeeding look worse than the odds that a 24-year-old in AAA succeeding. -
Twins Daily Draft Preview: Jett Williams
nicksaviking replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I don't like the undersized players. If he does have power potential, OK, I'd play along, though at this stage, it's usually hard to predict. A high contact slap hitter at #8 though? No thanks. A slap hitter typically has to hit his absolute ceiling to be a long-time starting MLB player, if you have XBH potential there's much more wiggle room. As for the speed, that's great, I'd rather have a fast player than a slow player. But Buxton has two SB this year. As a team the Twins only have 14 combined, and it's not like the team is great about trying to take extra bases either. -
Pondering a Nelson Cruz Reunion
nicksaviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they wanted a bat, they could probably find a more impactful one. Though to be fair, if the Twins ate all of the salary including the buyout, he'd probably cost no player of note. So in terms of sacrificed prospect equity, that might be hard to top. Though one thing that would move the needle for me regarding this hypothetical is if Cruz is at DH, the team could and should make Sanchez the primary catcher. Getting Jeffers' non-existent bat out of the lineup regularly would be a great auxiliary benefit. -
Mostly just interested in the bullpen, but if getting another starter would help boot Bundy from the rotation, or move Archer to the pen upon his return, I'd have some interest. Pablo Lopez is controlled for another 2.5 years, so he's kind of a different animal. He should cost way, way more, and I don't know that Miami is even open to dealing him at this time. I'd be interested if they were. No on Kelly and no on Montas. Kelly has no track record for this kind of success and he can't strike anyone out. Montas' production away from the Oakland Coliseum doesn't come close to matching what his asking price will be. Mahle on the other hand is lights out away from Cincinnati; his road numbers make him look like he could be significantly undervalued. Castillo does seem like the kind of productive prestige name that might send a message to the players and fans that the organization is committed to winning this year, even if I personally think the rest of the young staff needs another year for this team to actually compete for a championship.

His problem is his 13.2% BB rate. Why is it DOUBLE his career average? The last few years the organization has seemed to prioritize low walk rates from the bullpen, yet Pagan is out there missing pitches left and right (and up and down). What has happened? Clearly the front office didn't expect this. If that can be fixed, I guess hold tight with him because his stuff is good, but he shouldn't be a late inning guy. He's never been good in high leverage situations. For his career his high leverage OPS is .839. He looks just fine otherwise.

He’s stepped up and made many of us second guess our initial thoughts. But to be fair to those of us who were willing to sacrifice Gordon for Lewis, using that May 18th date in the OP, Lewis only had THREE xbh at the time. He looked like another slap hitter. It shouldn’t have been that stunning of an idea. I’d be quite confident it crossed the minds of those in charge.

Twins Daily Draft Preview: Jacob Berry
nicksaviking replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
While I’m not as steadfast as Ashbury, I agree about not taking a catcher just because you need a catcher. A HOF catcher is a huge advantage, but one of those get drafted once a decade, maybe even longer. But if you don’t get one of those rare gems, you’re not getting much of an advantage. The difference between an average catcher and a poor catcher is pretty minimal. Partly because of the reduced number of games, and partly because except for those few HOFer’s they're just not great hitters.
