  1. It was a great pick, the Twins got lucky he fell to them. The one thing I wonder about is, if he's such a great contact hitter, and his dad is a well regarded college hitting coach, is there going to be an ability, or willingness to adjust as needed? The Twins have been fantastic about getting more power out of college hitters once they joined the system, but this does sound quite a bit like Joe Mauer, where no more tinkering or refining was going to occur. Not that he's only a slap hitter or anything. Clearly he's able to put some over the fences as it stands now.
  2. I agree, I think Winder is going to be pretty important this year and beyond. I think dealing from the Kirilloff/Miranda/Winder/Ober group diminishes the gains you'd get from the trade.
  3. The Angels are the only team on that list that wasn't a well regarded playoff team. I mean if someone wants to go back and find the World Series odds for those teams at the start of the playoffs vs the recent playoff Twins teams, I'm open to eating my words. I'd think the '06 team was the only one on the level of the rest of those. But it's immaterial to me. I don't care how other teams do it, I only know, with two decades of track record to prove me right, that the Minnesota Twins are playoff losers when they go in as an underdog. I hope they upgrade the team at the deadline, I really do, but why anyone would think the Twins could pull off an upset World Series win without the aid of a time machine back to the days of Kirby Puckett is crazy to me. They need to build a GREAT team, not one that can win the lousy AL Central and then just cross their fingers and hope for the best.
  4. Seems to me Atlanta was the first team that wouldn't have been considered one of the top four or so teams to win it all in about two decades. I think the only condition would be not going into your first round match up as the underdog. Every. Single. Year. They will be the underdog this year regardless of which AL East team they are matched up with. Though I suppose it will be easier to name the actual contenders now that we have two first round byes in each league. When the Twins snag a free pass into the second round, they're probably a contender. And considering the division they're in, that shouldn't be a tough ask for an actual contender.
  5. There are some options I'd accept as 'controllable' that will be around in 2023. That's not optimal, but acceptable to me assuming I can stomach the cost. And I feel like I can stomach a pretty decent cost at this point.
  6. I don't care about contending for the division though. I only care about winning the World Series. And this club lost the benefit of that 'chip-chair-and-a-chance' perspective a decade ago. From my view, they're only a contender when they roll into the playoffs as one of the top favorites. I don't think that's been the case for this franchise since the '06 team.
  7. Bednar is controlled for another 4.5 years. I can't imagine he's actually available.
  8. I think Winder is ONLY not on the MLB roster because he wasn't going to get another start again before the AS break and they wanted the extra reliever.
  9. I want them to buy, but I don't think being in 1st place makes them a contender. The cutesy David vs. Goliath narrative that Minnesota teams LOVE to push bothers me to no end. Just go out and be Goliath for once. Nothing wrong with being the favorite. I don't think any amount of trades gets them there this year though. I think the youngsters need to get a taste of the war before they become battle hardened enough to wreak havoc.
  10. Twins took another Alabama pitcher. Draft a buddy for Prielipp so he signs for less. Genius move.
  11. Ah, I still remember when Miguel Sano was a shortstop. Might be worth a look to give him some reps there again.
  12. Just sign the one that will be a HOFer.
  13. Any available mission trips in Fort Myers?
  14. I prep shortstop!?!?!? Heck yes, sign me up!
  15. There has been at Target Field this year too. Even when the pitcher had someone to throw to.
  16. Awesome looking numbers too! Put him on the 26-man! https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=cosset000and
  17. Seems like Jeremy was on the same page as the GMs of the rest of the league as most of those guys went in the 4th round or higher. Looks like Alex Kachel is still there if the Twins want to give Jeremy a win.
  18. I could live with that trade. Balazovic and Martin are really eating dirt right now though so they likely have much less value than we in Twins nation might like to think. I think trading for Castillo would send an incredibly loud and invigorating message, but based on how the pitchers do away from Cincinnati, I think Mahle may end up being more impactful on the field. And likely cheaper.
  19. Good article. Says his brother goes to Stetson so there might be a draw there for him. Either way, I'd be happy to see the Twins able to sign any upside HS kid. Hylton sounds like a good one to gamble on.
  20. Well there are still plenty of 'ranked' prep players but most of them wouldn't take any reasonable bonus at this point; college is their landing spot with the hope of getting the big bucks in a couple of years. Most will probably still get drafted just in case they change their minds, and some even may sign, but that seems to be knowledge that's kept between the teams and the players themselves.
  21. Yeah, we're kind of in the dark here since we don't know if the Twins needed to save all the money for the top of their draft, or if they saved money for today. I'd imagine we'll know after the next pick.
  22. So far I haven't thought of a reason why using road splits as the prime evaluation tool isn't the right way to go. I don't like his road splits. Tyler Mahle is still my top choice.
  23. That's a lofty goal. Looking back at Twins draft picks, I don't see that as a very attainable goal. Larnach never hit .350. Neither did Spencer Steer, or Brent Rooker or Matt Wallner or Ryan Jeffers. So far, for the Twins, I've only found one recent college bat of note to do it, Encarnacion-Strand, and he only hit .358.
