    OK, I still hate this from a waste-of-money perspective, but I guess if the idea is that securing the edges and stabilizing the OL is priority number one for the offense this year, the signing might be dumb, but maybe is a good sign that they plan on giving the QB better time in the pocket next year. Need to still fix the interior of the line though. Defense should be the main priority, but I don't want to see them chasing an ODB kind of WR or spending dumb money on a RB either. Better protection should be the only offense they try to address in free agency. Maybe they can sign one of the million available RBs on the cheap, but that can come much later after they've been picked through.

    A blocking TE no less. I mean, do you even pay Jim Kleinsasser in his prime that kind of money? How good could this guy actually be at blocking?

    Nobody wants him here, and I'm guessing he won't make the opening day roster barring an unexpected injury. However, his stuff is way better than his results. He strikes batters out at an elite level, he doesn't have control issues and he has good velocity and movement. Not "really trying" would probably be doing the opposite, dumping him without attempting to figure out and fix what should be a top end reliever. If anything they've been trying too hard and futilely.

    He's cheaper than Derek Carr, but is he actually any better? This just seems like a really dysfunctional franchise. Said everyone every year for about the last forty years. My guess is that LV is where Rodgers wanted to go, but LV wasn't interested for whatever reason. Salary, draft pick compensation, head coach repellant or whatever.

    If they roster another journeyman vet over the half dozen young guys who are ready to play, I'd probably lose it.

    Yeah, I wasn't expecting that. I mean they need LBs but figured they'd look elsewhere.

    Me too, but I want to put on my tinfoil conspiracy hat for a second. IF Rodgers "retires" and IF the Vikings trade Cousins (both unlikely) I'll predict that Rodgers will unretire in July, forcing the Packers to cut him and his salary, then Rodgers signs with the Vikings for one season. Not that I want that, but it would be the biggest D move he could pull and he seems to love to pull D moves.

    I'm guessing Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to go to the Jets? Otherwise he'd already have accepted a trade there. Man, that guy is such a dillweed. I wouldn't be surprised if whatever his plan is, it's designed to aggravate as many people as possible.

    Like everyone else, I'd like to try to put offensive + players at the most demanding position they can handle, which does sound like 2B. But at the moment, the Twins biggest holes DO seem to be the least demanding positions, LF and 1B. If his bat has a shot to win an opening day spot, I wouldn't be opposed to moving him to one of those positions for the time being.

    They're almost there. Smith, Cook and Cousins and that's a pretty clean slate. Cook seems like he's done. Smith wouldn't be the worst hold over if he can't be traded. Cousins for one more year, ugh, I just want to be done with it, but whatever. Of course, this news sounds like the club is considering committing to mediocrity for ever: Hopefully that's a ploy to get trade partners to take them seriously.

    And if I'm honest, laughing at the hijinks when the Vikings are hopelessly bad is way better for my blood pressure and mental health than getting angry when they mess up when they're teasing us with playoff hopes. I'll still watch every game in either case too.

    PFT says that NFL Media is reporting that the Buccaneers are going to go after Baker Mayfield? Gross, TB going from GOAT to billy goat. That division is just awful. Derek Carr is the best QB in division and it's not even close. The Vikings should be shopping Cousins to TB and ATL.

    Yeah, the franchise has had some all time great players, but he's probably still the face of the organization.

    Yeah, 3-14 is better than 7-10 in my book. And I’ve had season tickets for 20+ years. I know what a 3 win season does to my ticket prices. Worth it in the long run if they can build an actual contender.

    The Bears got a great return. Still, I like this because it means they’re committing to Fields, and I don’t think Fields is the answer.

    Big day for the Lions, because I already had Jameson Williams scoring 4 TDs against the Vikings every game he plays against them from here out.

    I was trying to think where he might end up. Seems like a team with young WR that could use a veteran safety blanket. First thought was the Jets, but I changed my bet to the Lions. Could have said GB, but I'm not gonna.

    Celestino's bat was a bigger problem than Celestino's glove.

    I'm surprised there has been no talk of Harrison Smith getting cut. Not saying they should, but he's clearly lost a step so I'd think there'd be some chatter.

    The defense wasn't a problem last year, I think they way overcompensated with the free agents and trades. This team struggled on offense last year. That should have been a higher priority.

    So there are than a dozen free agent RBs this year who were starters at some point, therefore I expected Dalvin Cook to have no trade value. But of the clear top three RBs, Barkley, Jacobs and Pollard, I thought two would hit the market, now none have. The Vikings may get lucky after all. By my count that leaves Miles Sanders, David Montomery, Jamaal Williams, Devin Singletery, D'Onta Foreman, Kareem Hunt, Damien Harris, James Robinson, Alex Mattison, Darrell Henderson, Jeff Wilson, Raheem Mostert, Melvin Gordon and Rashaad Penny. Corderralle Patterson and Leonard Fournette will likely join them and Joe Mixon may too, but he might be too toxic. Still a ton of RBs, some more usable than others. I personally wouldn't have Cook at the top of my list, but he's probably the biggest name so some team might. Fifth round pick maybe? Really no clue at this point. On another note, with that many RBs available and so few spots to put them, it seems pretty likely that one of those guys will end up on the Vikings on a very minimal contract. I'll put my money on Henderson with the O'Connell connection, but Foreman, Harris and Robinson seem like possibilities too. Some good upside with Penny, for the five games you'll get to use him of course.

    So last year the Vikings signed free agent defensive players in Smith and Patrick Peterson. Peterson already complained and is gone, now Smith complains too. I'm thinking this has more to do with the system/DC than anything else, but I do not know the minutia so it's only a guess. Also a guess, the Vikings trying to save money probably won't put up much of a fight, but they probably want to make sure he's untradeable first.

    The team really needed to shore up the left handed outfielder position. This one was a no brainer.

    Honestly, with Ober way overqualified to be a AAA starter and the team talking about having long men in the pen, Sending Pagan packing for Ober may be something they consider.
