Sure, but San Diego has eyes on winning a World Series this year. If the Twins are in that position in 2023, than similar deals would make more sense for them.

I think the Twins just did a favor to everyone who thought this team was brining home the bacon in 2022. They were never going to be a legit contender with or without Rogers. As a fan, I'd rather have that clear to start the season than holding grand illusions that will soon be dashed. But don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to this year. I can't wait to see which young guys step up. Watching the talented young guys is way more enjoyable to me than watching the "crafty" vets.

Wow, the Twins are paying nearly all of Rogers salary; 6.6M. That's more than what they are paying Bundy, including next year's buyout.

If Winder sticks on the big league club, hopefully they do some piggy-backing. If they do and Winder (or Duran) make it clear that they are the superior pitcher to the vet they are backing, that should make these decisions pretty easy. It will be an apples to apples comparison instead of the normal AAA batters to MLB batters comparison.

I want to see Miranda at 3B in Minnesota ASAP. I'd like to see Urshela tried out as a backup/RH outfielder.

I don't quite share Mike's enthusiasm about the bullpen, but most years, there's only about three teams that like the bullpen they have. Relievers tend to be unreliable by nature, even the good ones. Their success is always based on small sample sizes and if they were reliable, they'd all be starters. To me, it always seems like predicting how good your bullpen will be was about as accurate as an early 20th Century weatherman.

4M is not going to keep the team from dumping Bundy.

I've been advocating for them to just always be using the hot hands for the high leverage situations. I'm absolutely not saying removing Rogers from the equation will make the pen better, but someone, either Rocco or folks in the FO have NEVER been comfortable rolling with the lesser known arms. They'd keep running out the vets in those spots just because tradition calls for it. Rogers and Romo kept getting tagged in 2020 but they stubbornly put them out there in big spots, same thing happened in 2019 with Blake Parker even though he clearly looked like toast. Last year it was Robles and Colome.

Well Bundy would be my first, second and third choices to lose innings. Archer would be a distant fourth.

I've never known this front office to have a "closer". Rogers was third on the team in saves and tied for third in games finished last year.

I want the young guys to get more innings for sure, but Paddack is still a young guy too, the team has him for three more years. As long as his innings come at the expense of Bundy and Archer I'm Ok rolling with him in the rotation.

They knew they had to increase the payroll but they didn't want to make any long term commitments. None of their free agents were long term signings and they never at any point had the starting pitching to do anything more than compete for a wild card spot. They did way better filling holes than they have in most years, but I never saw any of these moves as an indication that 2022 was THE year.

Yeah, they'll have some time to sort it out especially since none of the starters seem anywhere near to being stretched out yet.

Cave's not on the 40 man either, he should be in the same boat as Garlick. My vote would be for Miranda and not care about having a RH outfielder, but my vote never counts. Larnach would be my second choice and if they were insistent on a righty I'd go with Celestino. But they'll probably find a way to squeeze Garlick onto the roster.

Since they made the trade, I think they'd be able to instead bring someone back that they previously reassigned. Shouldn't have to be Garlick. The Rays brought back Josh Lowe after trading Austin Meadows.

Manaea is a free agent next year and this team was not built to win a WS in 2022. Manaea wouldn't have changed that.

Both pitchers have good control and some pretty dang good pitches; there's plenty of potential to go around with them. I'm more than happy to take either off of San Diego's hands. I just thought it would come at the expense of the more redundant corner outfielders. If Paddack is going into the rotation though, it sure better be at the expense of Dylan Bundy.

Letting the kids pitch this year I guess. Which I guess is what I wanted after they decided not to go after any free agent starters. The team already has made it clear they won't pay for relievers though. With Rogers a free agent next year, we all probably should have seen this coming. Both pitchers coming back do help with the Twins lack of velocity. They need to hit their potential quickly though.

Me too, and Kepler seems to fit the bill for the defensive aspect SD seems to want. But if it is Kepler and Rogers, there’s a bit of an issue. Those two aren’t exactly low budget; that’s $14 in contracts and SD is already over their preferred budget. If it’s those two, I’d think either Hosmer or Myers has to be coming back or the Twins send cash, which doesn’t sound like a Twins move. If either are the case, a pretty damn good prospect better be part of the package.
