  1. It was just him being the new guy in town that I thought people were grabbing on to. Honestly though, reading through the whole thread, everybody has started to sell me on him him more. My recollection of how the GOOD Twins players handled A ball seems to be inflated upon further research. I thought anyone who ended up being decent put up an easy .800+ OPS in A ball. Seems that wasn't always the case. I'm in on Salas.
  2. I was excited to have Urshela last year but that's because I thought he'd end up being the next Marwin Gonzalez/Eduardo Escobar super utility guy. Then he played all of three innings outside of 3B last year, despite all the injuries. If he was only going to play 3B, it was the right move to trade him. Farmer as an actual utility guy is a better use of the roster than a guy who'll push Miranda out of the lineup regularly.
  3. I'm happy to have him, but when the first positive mentioned is his 'speed' I think the rating might be oversold a bit, particularly in an organization that's philosophically opposed to stealing bases. Hard to see how he can be higher than Varland, Wallner, Festa and Mercedes, this kind of seems like he got a bump due to shiny-new-toy syndrome.
  4. Maybe, but teams are much less eager to take on salary in-season. The Twins might have to eat most of it. Which is fine by me if it's fine by them. And honestly, he's probably still here because no other team found the remaining 9.5M salary reasonable. Particularly since you can still get David Peralta, Robbie Grossman, Tyler Naquin, Ben Gamel or Kole Calhoun for a fraction of that.
  5. It wouldn't make sense as far as getting equity is concerned. But if one had the opinion that his absence would improve the roster, that would make sense. Not saying that it necessarily would, but I'm also not saying it necessarily won't if he doesn't show a dramatic offensive improvement early in the season.
  6. I'm very interested to see how all of this plays out. Some teams, but probably very few, will have figured out the exact right formula to work with the new rules. A few teams will probably already have lucked into having the exact right formula on roster. Most of the rest, will have to adjust on the fly. The worst of the rest, will have to adjust after the season. I'm always way more interested in the offense than the defense, but even while I don't like some of the player choices (outfield, not infield) I like that this team is being proactive. But, they can always minimize any sub par infielder velocity if they make sure to focus on pitcher velocity. The most efficient and optimal out is a strikeout.
  7. Great hire. I really hope they hire some additional upstart position coaches who can pick up the slack if Flores turns this around and gets a HC job next year.
  8. Anthony Prato is my long-shot call. He’ll be the RH OF bat everyone’s been clamoring for. The guy knows how to get on base and can play most positions just like Austin Martin, but unlike Martin, Prato has at least a bit of pop, and actually hit last year. He could be a RH Nick Gordon, but with better quality at bats. If Kirilloff struggles, I got my eye on Alex Isola at 1B and emergency 3rd catcher as my 2nd pick.
  9. And the Twins have had just as much luck, if not more luck, in getting the less heralded offensive prospects to perform. I'm looking forward to seeing where the guys who played in Wichita last year end up. Everyone's excited about Brooks Lee, and people still talk about Austin Martin, but Edouard Julian, Jair Camargo, Anothy Prato, Alex Isola and Yunior Severino were all hitting well in AA. That's five under-the-radar guys that could get looks this year if they keep producing.
  10. That baseline is nowhere near acceptable for a starting RF though. The unknown is a better option than the known when the known can no longer hit. Keep him as depth, but don’t start him. They cut bait with Rosario after a down season with a .792 OPS. Kepler hasn’t sniffed that kind of production in four years.
  11. I always thought it was weird that they thought they could get much value for him. Keep him, fine. But does he have to be promised a starting job? Larnach, Wallner and Gordon should all have a shot at getting the RF job, seniority should have zero impact on the decision either. Kepler just is not productive any longer.
  12. If they hated it so much, they probably wouldn't have traded for Lopez and then immediately tell us that Maeda has a rotation spot too. Don't get me wrong, I ALSO wanted another rotation spot open for a younger pitcher and Ober has easily been the most undervalued starter this team has employed the last two years. I also don't much care about free agent relievers; ain't a one of them any more reliable than what the Twins already have as options. Point being, relief pitchers by and large are not reliable, paying for them is a sucker move. But the Twins have had success as of late turning starters into their best bullpen pieces, so I prefer that move over free agents.
  13. I wanted an offensive minded coach last year, but Ryans did make me consider the opposite. That organization seems pretty dysfunctional, hope he gets the right QB and OC and they turn things around despite that.
  14. I don't trust pitchers coming out of Oakland though. If they somehow "fix" Trevor May, I'll be suspicious as hell.
  15. I wouldn’t want May if he were a free agent. Ober is already a better bullpen option than him anyway.
  16. I got no skin in the game, but I would have thought if there was any rigging, it would have been in the Bengals favor. I thought they were the hot new "IT" team with Burrow's face being everywhere lately. Both teams are in small markets so I'd think that factor would be a push. But that was only my recent perception, it could have been the opposite too I suppose.
  17. I like them right now by default. Screw Philly.
  18. Yeah, and I know for most of the owners it’s really about banking as much money now, not ten years from now. But they need to divorce themselves from those instincts or there won’t be a league in 20 years.
  19. That's not nearly enough subscribers to keep this thing moving. That's 116K fans per team average, and the big markets will be weighing that down for the mid market teams. So what, 80-90K Twins fans tops? That seems ridiculously high actually. Advertisers won't keep ponying up for that kind of volume. They'll get more eyes on a five minute, mid-level Youtuber video. They need to get on the already established streamers. All the teams, all the time. You'd get more people to pay $3 more per month for their Hulu account to watch baseball, than you will charging them $30 per month for a baseball only channel.
  20. I was admittedly being hyperbolic, but they can’t ask people to pay $140 for a baseball only channel in addition to what people are already paying for Netflix/Apple/Amazon/Hulu.
  21. They need to sell the entire league to the major streaming services. Maybe like the NFL, Amazon buys the AL, Apple buys the NL. The big markets with their current self-sustaining broadcasting gets paid out from the deals first, the earnings will be lopsided for the first years, then after how many years it takes to pay back that equity to the big markets, then the whole league goes complete broadcast revenue sharing.
  22. Zero people over 60 are going to frame it that way though. To people of my parents generation, baseball is included in the package they already pay, if they're going to have to pay additional for a streaming service on top of whatever else they currently are paying, they won't. Especially not for a streaming service that will be 100% unwatchable for all but 3 hours a day during 6 months of the year. And retired moms and pops sitting around watching the games have to be one of the sports biggest demographics. MLB was greedy with their broadcasting rights the last couple of decades and now they're going to have to reckon with it. Likely with a financial haircut of some sort.
  23. Yeah, big risk, but if last year's draft was a barometer for how this regime evaluates players, 2nd round picks may not be terribly valuable to this club. SF may prefer a Bridgwater or even a Mike White type. They'd have to deal with some heavy fallout trading him for only a 2nd rounder though. And SF would probably prefer to deal him outside of the conference. The GM who drafted him is now in Tennessee and they have an unsettled QB situation, I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings would have to pay more than most people would feel comfortable with.
  24. I'd be interested in Lance, but the problem is going to be that they'd have to decide on picking up his 5th year option after next year, and assuming he's sitting for a year under Cousin's, they probably will have no idea if they should pick it up.
  25. His dad coached at NDSU so he spent his elementary school years in Fargo, which is obviously Vikings country. Pretty sure he'd moved on to wherever his dad coached next by the time that photo was taken though, pretty cool he was still rocking the Moss jersey!
