  1. They're throwing way more than I thought they would. I just think Fields is a deer in the headlights unless he makes up his mind to run right away.
  2. I think Cousins on crutches would only be a minimal improvement though.
  3. I mean I think they are HALFWAY. Dobbs has stunk, but Chicago's defense is all over the receivers and backs somehow. The Vikings defense is going to score sometime soon though.
  4. The Vikings are shooting themselves in the foot, but since when can the Bears play good defense? The receivers are well covered and they're swarming to plays at the line of scrimmage like a professional team.
  5. Seems like a trap game, but maybe losing last week will mean no one overlooks this one. I think to lose, Dobbs would have to have multiple turnover's handing Chicago easy points and Fields would need to have the best gave of his season with his legs. He does not make quick decisions, so Flores' blitzing should crush his confidence. He'll escape some of them and make some big plays I'm sure, they just can't let him get away with it constantly.
  6. Even without Yamamoto, they still have Castillo, Kirby, Gilbert, Woo, Miller, the rookie Hancock, the (gross and untradeable) Marco Gonzales and a TBD Robbie Ray. So I'd be just fine trading for one Mariner pitcher before a Yamamoto signing and should the Mariners pull it off, another pitcher after!
  7. Most starter-turned-relievers don't find success until their first full season away from the conversion, so the Twins would be missing out on that test with all of these guys. They really need to start this transition with the fringy starters earlier before they start to see more Liam Hendricks' pop up on other teams rosters. Balazovic should be the first to go though since he isn't able to continue the experiment in St. Paul.
  8. Based on the historical comments on this site, I'm not sure Mauer would meet the 75% threshold if ONLY Twins fans voted for the HOF. I absolutely expect him to get in, but I'm expecting it to take some time and I'm fully expecting TD to erupt in outraged indignity once the results are revealed showing Mauer still has a long way to go. I mean, the anger will be real, but will anyone really be surprised if he isn't behind East Coast favorite newbies Utley, Wright or even Jose Reyes? Or long time elite players like Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Holliday? That doesn't even include East Coast holdovers like Jimmy Rollins, Andy Pettitte and Carlos Beltran or the remaining steroid era players who still have their die-hard supporters. Add in the near-locks Beltre, Helton and Wagner and he's going to struggle to find room on most voters top-ten lists. Carlos Beltran seems fairly similar to Mauer in terms of candidacy. They played premium defensive positions, had a fantastic peak of their careers, but didn't meet those 'counting stat' milestones. Beltran didn't even reach 50% of the votes last year and it was much weaker class. I think we should be hoping for something like 40% vote totals this year, but expect even less. I'll happily eat crow if it turns out otherwise though.
  9. Very true, I'm also a very willing novice. I just hope when the vet me, they don't dig too deep into the record of my fantasy teams.
  10. I dealt in hyperbole for sure, but they won't be getting a Sean Peyton or Jim Harbaugh. I doubt even a Brian Flores would accept that job, he'd probably want to wait for a spot that has more stability. Frank Reich was pretty well thought of, if another experienced HC, like Sean McDermott or Mike Vrabel or Brian Daboll or Mike McCarthy end up getting a surprising ax this winter, I can't see them accepting the job with that sideshow either. Still probably has to be a novice desperate to get their foot in the door.
  11. Very true. Fortunately, you'd be hard pressed to find more incompetent organizations than the Angels and Pirates. Their next logo changes need to be competing Gomer Pyles, one wearing wings, the other wearing an eye patch. Either way, Seattle and Miami are the teams with pitching to spare but offenses in need, so those would be my prime targets.
  12. I'm willing to trade Lee for pitching in Seattle or Miami. Not the rentals though. Though, I don't think I want the rentals in any case; I don't want to do this again next year. Get someone that can pair up with Lopez for the next several years. I'm thinking if Lee is traded though, he doesn't get packaged with another infielder in Polanco, he gets paired with Kepler or other prospects.
  13. Typically, 'bad news' will occur in Twins fandom, the front office will wait until what seems to be an eternity until we're all foaming at the mouth and tearing each others' throats out, then they'll make a move that will quell the mob.
  14. "Broadly speaking, the team has two options: they could acquire a top-tier starter like Corbin Burnes or Logan Gilbert, thickening their bunch at the top of the rotation at the cost of serious prospect capital. The upside in wielding another great starter is obvious, but such a deal would also protect them from the chaos and uncertainty involved in waiting until the trade deadline to make a move, where teams can hike up prices, and the only mercy is for those with stable elbows. Minnesota tried this route once with Tyler Mahle, which may push them to act now. They could also go the innings-eater route. Acquiring a Lucas Giolito or Mike Clevinger isn’t sexy, but it would at least give them extra protection if the ligament gods frown upon the team on any given day next year. In the end, the goal should be to knock Varland into the same role Ober occupied in 2023." If they plan to continue to pace the AL Central and aspire for a championship, doing anything short of getting another top of the rotation arm should be off the table. I'm happy to have them later in the rotation, but Ryan/Ober/Paddock as a #2 starter would disqualify this team as a legit contender. They have to go get another big time arm. And losing Gray and Maeda changes nothing. This team was NEVER going to sign a top of the rotation arm in free agency.
  15. Yeah, there are other NFL owners who are worse people, but Tepper might be the worst at running a football team. Well, maybe 2nd worst after the Bidwells. Who would want to coach in Carolina now?
  16. I don't think it's happening first ballot. I saw one ballot from Adam Rubin on line, he voted for David Wright and Chase Utley, no Mauer. https://www.si.com/mlb/yankees/news/new-york-yankees-gary-sheffield-first-hall-of-fame-vote-2024-matt9 Surprising, I know, an ESPN guy plugging Phillies and Mets players.
  17. Yeah, I wonder if Salah had much input on the Hackett signing. Because if he didn't, that organization has done everything they could do to drown the guy.
  18. Fine by me, but I would then expect Ryan or Ober to be involved in discussions for a trade for a higher caliber starter.
  19. I always thought he was pretty dang bad. I probably would have gone with Boyle too if only because he's had less opportunity to be bad. Crazy how bad Zach Wilson is though. Rick Mirer and Ryan Leaf are perhaps two #2 overall picked QB busts of all time, and Zach Wilson's QBR is significantly worse than both of them.
  20. Ouch. If you're able to saw him open that far, I suspect it will impact impact his game negatively.
  21. I'm personally looking forward to see Camargo and Cossetti, and if you have a back up like Hedges, Barnhart, Stallings or Alfaro on a small deal, the team isn't going to have to think too hard about replacing them if necessary*. And it's not like we're looking at significant changes in floors or ceilings between those guys and Vazquez. *I can't stress the if necessary enough. I'm not saying to hand the job to the kids, just have an out from an underperforming vet in case it turns out to be the better option.
  22. But we have an eight year career from Max Kepler to draw conclusions from. I think it's reasonably safe to say that the odds are much higher that he's more likely to disappoint than to excel. I mean if I was looking at this objectively and had little knowledge of Kepler, I'd have little faith that a 31-year-old finally became a star player, and I'd want little to do with him:
  23. Suwinski, and Moniak are obviously interesting, but those two and Adell would seem to compound the team's already unsustainable strikeout problem. It's interesting that Carlson's offensive decline coincided with a sharp drop in his K%. Coincidence? Neither Cardinal has me very interested but Festa is the only player listed that I'd have any kind of reservation about moving so I wouldn't put up much of an objection. But I really think everyone needs to pay attention to the active roster. Jeffers, Lewis, Castro, Kepler, Wallner, Kirilloff, Farmer, Polanco, Julien, Vazquez, Correa and Buxton are all basically locks. That's 12 offensive players and makes Gordon/Larnach the "easy" removals. This team does not have a ton of flexibility to add MLB deals for hitters. If they start signing and trading for more bats, they have to start planning on removing some of the vets. The math just doesn't work otherwise.
  24. July in Vegas, average high of 105 degrees. Sounds like a dream vacation!
  25. Hard to blame him. Statistics show that 98% of all drunk driving arrests are white billionaire men. And no, I don't feel the need to source those numbers since it's so obviously true.
