  1. To answer the very first post of this thread, "any time now is fine with me." I wanted Molitor to get the job. Heck, I wanted him to get the job when they handed it to Gardy. I was wrong. Woefully, painfully wrong. There's something not clicking, not reaching these guys and it goes beyond the injuries and the baffling call-ups. If they stick to the Twins M.O. and hire from within, Mientkiewicz would be my choice. If, however, they go back on the "Molly is our guy next year" mantra and hire someone else from within, I fear it'll be Mauer. They've been grooming him for years. I assume Toby G. won't be far behind to be the hitting coach. It's starting to feel something like this:
  2. Really hoping it's not the Twins that claimed him. There's too much talent there for the Dodgers to wash their hands of him without there being some major issues. This team has more than enough issues without adding one that makes teams look past him.
  3. Santiago and his agent have nicknames for each other.
  4. And the righty. Good thing Rob's way better from that side of the plate.
  5. "Hank, it's your agent. You're a Minnesota Twin now. Do you know what that means? That means one good start gets you a contract for next year - two or three probably gets you a long-term deal. Pelfrey, Nolasco, Hughes ... it's like stealing candy from a baby. Now go out there and do it."
  6. I missed Logan's first AB tonight, but after watching him almost knock Kipnis over with that hot smash in the 4th I feel comfortable in assigning him a nickname ... Weapon X. Who's with me?
  7. Molly really liked the way Logan busted it to the airport to catch that flight. Have to reward that kind of hustle. I assume Mr. Antony is drawing up the paperwork to buy out his arb years right now.
  8. Playing in the majors - or whatever the Twins are trying to pass off as major league baseball these days - is no longer merit-based. Late season call-ups used to be to reward prospects for outstanding minor league seasons, to get a look at what they might be able to bring to the table the following year, or to provide a late-season boost to a team in a play. Now it's basically a participation trophy ... "Thanks for being a less than mediocre hitter all year, Logan, here's your trophy - don't forget to hang a left and grab an orange slice."
  9. I think the number came from the assumption that Molly and Co. haven't seen enough of Robert in LF to decide if he's a FT player. I think many people knew at the time he was signed that he wasn't, but it's taking some time for others to figure out. I mean, it's not everyday that a Top-80 prospect from one list 4 years ago makes his way to the waiver wire ... you wouldn't want to make any hasty decisions on him.
  10. Did anybody else watch Rob and Dan collide in the outfield and think it the perfect metaphor for the season? To be completely honest, that was my second thought. The first was, "two birds with one stone ... thanks, Toronto."
  11. You forgot to mention the overrated years when they were hanging banners instead of winning trophies. Mediocrity is acceptable if you try really hard.
  12. Thankfully Pat Dean's spot on the 25-man is secure. It'd be a shame if they actually based promotions and keeping your roster spot based on merit.
  13. DanSan and Grossy? You just want to see Molitor cry don't you?
  14. I'm on board with all of your moves and I'd add Santana to it and I'd roll the dice on Boshers. Yeah, he's a lefty, but he's not someone I'd lose sleep over if he didn't clear waivers.
  15. A couple of guys I'm interested in following are ones that aren't needle-movers, but for some reason I'm intrigued by them. I'm happy to see Cederoth remaining relatively healthy and consistent. Those walks are probably cause for concern though. I also like watching John Curtiss' lines. Again, the walks are probably a cause for concern, but he seems to miss some bats. I'm pleased you included Walker on there, too. Position flexibility, good fielder ... he's got Twins written all over him, so it's nice to see him starting to put together a good offensive season. Never thought I'd see that out of him.
  16. I'm with you on this one. He might never be the ace he was projected to be, but he's been getting guys out at every stop. Just like I'm not expecting Gonsalves to continue putting up numbers in the majors like he has in the minors, I'm not ready to call Stewart a bust yet. Too early for both - along with Thorpe, Jorge, Romero, etc. - to be pigeonholed as saviors or scapegoats. Jay, I'm a little more concerned with. Not because of results, which I thought were pretty good early on, but because of the lack of innings and having to shut it down. He could still get there, I'm just hoping it's not as a LHP setup man. That would be disappointing.
  17. I'm with you on this one. I'm about the furthest thing from a Tommy Milone fan, but I think he's got a role on a big league team ... preferably one I don't watch. Albers, however, I see no upside to having on a 40-man roster. He strikes me as the kind of guy you stash at AAA and call up if half of your MLB rotation is injured, along with the swing man, the AAA and AA pitchers on your 40-man and one of the other organizational fillers can't catch a flight.
  18. "Back in my day," prospects were given beyond their age 22 season before people started labeling them as busts or suggesting that they nut up or shut up. Seriously, some of the comments on here are absolutely ridiculous. Has he been bad? Yup, he sure has. But he's also insanely young ... he's actually considered very young for the International League at this point. Fans need to give him time to develop, management needs to give him some actual direction and instruction (seriously, getting shuffled around between levels every 50-60 games can't allow him to become comfortable anywhere) and prospectors need to stop labeling these kids as "the next (insert whatever name is hottest right now so long as both players share the same ethnicity and body type here)" - it's not good for the prospects, the team or overzealous fans. It wasn't until the last handful of years that players so young were actually "supposed" to be superstars right away. Honestly, if it weren't for the "he's like Mike Trout because of Cedar Rapids" comparisons, Harper succeeding at age 19 or being drafted right after Correa, how many people would be upset that a 22-year-old isn't quite ready to hit a big league breaking ball?
  19. Somewhere, Delmon Young is watching this game and laughing at Grossman's range in LF.
  20. Any good will built up by getting someone to take on Nolasco has been lost in the last couple of days. Two pitchers bound for DFA get shelled and then cry injury and you replace them with the exact same pitcher ... classic Twins Way. Because really, Milone/Boshers is the exact same beast as Dean/Albers ... except the latter two are super duper nice guys so it makes up for their awful pitching.
  21. If I'm Molitor, I'm pitching Albers until the end - regardless of score. With any luck he gives up enough runs that this is the last time we see him. I mean, aside from the glorious 2013 reunions.
  22. If his agent isn't on the phone with Antony right now, Sammy needs a new agent.
  23. Dean and Logan. Wheeler tries too hard to make batters miss the ball.
  24. There's no way they keep him on the roster after this, is there? This is pathetic.
