  1. Funderburk seems to have found something as a bullpen lefty this year although his last 2 seasons for the Twins have not been good. Laweryson, another lefty, did well for the Twins but only threw 7 innings. He did have a good season at both AA and AAA this year to earn his call up.
  2. I don't think you need a closer until you have a team that is good enough to win some games. I don't expect that team directions will be passed down by ownership until next year. I 'm thinking ownership expected to sell the team early this year and when that didn't happen they didn't have a plan B. I think that's why they had a fire sell at the end of July. Ownership had a board meeting and told Falvey to cut payroll by $50 million and that was the only plan they had.
  3. Fitzgerald has been primarily a shortstop in his career with over 380 games played, He has also played over 100 games at third and second base plus some outfield time. I think he would be a good utility player for the team. The word from ownership that has come out about what they are doing this winter or next year seems too be non existent. No body on the team knows what they doing, the front office does know, and ownership hasn't committed to anything. Heck maybe they are going to sell washers and dryers.
  4. Maybe create a new position. DH/RP and bring him in 2-3 time a week to pitch in relief and continue as a batter.
  5. I would prefer to be positive then as negative as all the White Sox lovers on this site.
  6. If we're going to cherry pick then lets not pick the month following the month of August after half the team was traded away. Had have your favorite Mets been doing/
  7. Since early June when Lewis got out of Spring Training mode, he has been hitting over 270 on a 30 homer 100 RBI pace. His OPS is around 777, that could be higher and he needs to walk more. Along with his stolen base rate, which I doubt he could keep up for a full season, he'd make a heck of a third baseman.
  8. Now that he ended his season injured, even it is not considered a serious injury, that will make it much harder to trade him this winter. That's good news and could facilitate him pitching for the Twins next year.
  9. For players we have now (since I don't think you can plan to add any meaningful free agents) I'd add in Fitzgerald as the main utility infielder and Pereda as backup catcher. I'd also subtract Larnach as a corner outfielder. Hopefully trade him for a relief pitcher even if that's a failed starter in the minors with a very good fastball and some breaking ball, that has a bid of command.
  10. I'm hoping Prielipp gets about 125 innings next year between the Twins and St Paul.
  11. Managers no longer have a hand in developing talent, if they ever did. The team has a whole organization load of people doing that.
  12. The Twins have 2 veterans in Buxton and Jeffers. Lee is finishing his first full year in the majors and Lewis is finishing his 2nd full year. Martin has less than a full season of plate appearances and Keaschall only a third of a season. I don't think Wallner and Larnach are long term outfielders for the Twins. I expect the corners could come from among Jenkins, Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Roden, Outman and Mendez. If Wallner makes the necessary adjustments he could be a good DH. Maybe a good regular DH for a change. Pereda looks like he could be a good backup or at least workable and Fitzgerald could be a decent utility infielder and relief pitcher. Not weighing any other minor leagues that could come up next year, I'd expect the starting lineup to come from the above. Hopefully we have a wave of healthy players in this mix. I'm not sold on Clemens as the regular first baseman, but since the team probably won't sign any free agents. Starters we have plenty, and we will not trade for any unless we get one in return for Lopez or Ryan (who I hope we don't trade). The rotation I expect to be in flux for most of the year The bullpen and someone to play first base on a regular basis that can hit, are the big question marks.
  13. Depending on the rest of the team, I don't think it will matter if they trade Jeffers or resign Vasquez. They could just let Jimenez and Tait grow in the minors for 26 & 27. One of them may be ready to get some major league time by the second half of 27. In the meantime sign a good defensive catchers to work with the pitchers and bring up the best defensive minor league catcher they have.
  14. Klien is 23, a real old timer. 121 strikeouts and 31 walks, in 98 inning. Why do we bother with guys like this. I just wonder if he's a good starter or a top of the bullpen arm next year. Amick 22, I assume if he has the arm for first since he can play third. He got a few more games at first than at third this year. Too bad he missed 2 months. A 307/417/867 batting line looks pretty good for a first year player, It may be 2027 before he gets close to the Twins. But they will probably need a player or 2 by then. Oliveras, another oldtimer at 22. Looks like he needs work on his control, but also appears he good be a very good bullpen arm in 2 years. He walked 57 batters and gave up 66 hits in 90 innings.
  15. I think the Twins definitely need a rest and recovery department. It may need sports shrinks besides coaches.
  16. Twins win Ober wins. Chances of a 100 loss year are eliminated.
  17. Seems like all teams try to get their starters to that 'magic" 5 inning mark so that the starter can get a victory in the game. That should be done away with like probably 30 years ago. I don't think many (any) starting pitcher can hold up to 100 pitches per start and pitch 30 games a year. The new norm will probably fall to 75-80 pitches. With all the ridiculous changes baseball has made the last 5 years fixing the 5 inning rule should be easy enough to do.
  18. September is a good month to take a long and perhaps final look at a lot of players. There seems to be about a dozen players who could easily be removed from the 40 man list perhaps more. I think most of the players under discussion are not more than filler under the best(I hope) of circumstances. We are not really seeing that many potential starters for next year and I don't expect to. We don't want to get too many on the major league roster and promote bad habits or negative attitudes among them.
  19. I rank them Jimenez, Morris, then Rosario, although Jimenez would probably be the last to see the majors. I always thought the cutoff for rookie status was 150 plate appearances. Keaschall is now at 131 and could get to 150 by the end of next week.
  20. Bradley looks like a solid middle of the rotation starter as least for now and next year. I wonder how many years he has until free agency. He started in the Gulf Coast League in 2018. Hopefully he puts more on the table before the end of next year. It was interesting to see that he made 10 starts at Triple A as well as 21 starts for Tampa Bay in 2023.
