  1. I think 69 wins as is. They lost three of their top 5 hitters (Donaldson, Cruz, Garver). I expect Urshela to pick up some of that slack but he’s no Donaldson. Haven’t replaced Cruz’s production, which is hard to do anyway. I like Jeffers and believe his bat is much better than he’s shown but he’s no Garver. Starters: I don’t see Ober and Ryan being worse than Happ and Shoemaker. Gray and Berrios should cancel each other out. Bundy is another Shoemaker to me. And we don’t know who gets the other rotation spot. BP: I have no idea. So all of that is why I say 69 right now.
  2. I was for Thorpe staying a SP last year but then he just never got his velocity back. He couldn’t get above 90 for one inning as a starter so I basically have no faith that he’s a major league pitcher anymore. This isn’t the usual case of a slow pitcher moving to the bullpen and ramping up to faster. This is a case of a guy who used to have the stuff to pitch and has lost it all completely. Hope I’m wrong
  3. I don’t recall if I have the details correct but this is giving me vibes of that time the Twins released a player and then the player they were going to call up decided to retire. Total backfire. I will hope for the best because this can’t possibly be it, but unless they’re just waiting on Story to pass his physical…nothing is set in stone. He should have many offers out there.
  4. I would like to make my grade even worse than it was.
  5. Dude is jacked. I don’t know how he doesn’t “accidentally” hit 20 HRs a season but here we are…
  6. My initial reaction and my reaction many hours later: oh god, why? The Twins had plenty of money without having to salary dump Donaldson. Urshela is a downgrade from him, but at least he’s not horrible like Sanchez. Catching got worse, which I thought was impossible. Need to trade Sanchez ASAP. Need a SS again. Now need a catcher and still need pitching.
  7. I have mixed feelings. I don’t mind getting Gray, but I’m not as high on him as others. I think he’s a slight step below Berrios. I also was hyping myself up about Petty. I know the track record for guys like Petty is really bad but I still was getting excited. That being said, I’m with whoever said they’d rather trade a Petty than a Winder or someone else close.
  8. Wanted Rodon. I knew that wasn’t happening. Picked Pineda in the poll, even before Rodon signed. It’ll be Pineda or what Mike posted.
  9. I have no idea what the Twins should do. I am always for adding good players at all times but this offseason is weird. I would have signed many of the FA SP that already signed and Bundy was not one of them. I am technically for doing a trade that improves the team, but is that Montas? Yes, he improves upon what they have right this minute but this would be the Berrios situation all over again. They didn’t want to sign Berrios to a reasonable deal. Why would they extend a similar pitcher in Montas? They’ll give up assets to acquire him and a year from now it seems likely that they would then “have to” trade him and it’s possible for the return to be less than whatever the Twins may give the A’s depending upon Montas’ performance. it’s a dumb situation all around which is why I have no idea what I think they should do. The ship I wanted has already sailed. I’d rather see Winder than more Bundy’s and if the Twins are just going to do with Montas what they did with Berrios…what’s the point? Get good players. Keep good players.
  10. PECOTA loves Ryan more than I do, crazy. I think he’s a three right now with the chance to be better. I am a big fan.
  11. I am not rational when it comes to Ryan. Gut feeling, he becomes our next Berrios results-wise. I think he could even be a bit better than that, but again I said I’m not rational. I hope my gut is correct.
  12. Yes, but in the same way it’s a mistake to give one to Arraez if they do…it’s just unnecessary
  13. Money is and always will be the biggest factor. They also haven’t won one playoff game in the last 18 years. If I were a ballplayer that would be another big factor in why I would not sign (wouldn’t go to the Mariners for similar reason). I don’t know how many players think this way but I’m pretty sure it’s more than zero. Then when they are good, they don’t ever go for it because they are worried about future seasons of competing. As we’ve seen, the not going for it has lead to division titles and no playoff wins or just being bad (2021). I like winning and making the playoffs better than not doing those things but at some point they need to go for it and they haven’t done that in the last 20 years either. Players see that. Johan criticized them for it and nothing has changed since then.
  14. As of a few days ago, Hayes said Polanco as a shortstop is not likely to happen which is the correct answer
  15. Same as Blyleven, it seems. They didn’t think either deserved it until they got into the MLB HOF.
  16. https://www.talkingchop.com/2021/1/15/22227585/where-are-they-now-revisiting-players-the-braves-lost-during-ifa-scandal article before the 2021 season started. Looks like most are doing poorly
  17. Yes, that’s why I’m not throwing him into the Arraez pile yet. Hopefully his wrist doesn’t become a multi-year thing that leads to surgery like Kirilloff’s did.
  18. I agree with that. For me his bar is Butera. I think he has a better bat than Butera, not enormously better but better. If he becomes a successful backup for 10+ years then he will have at least met that Butera bar.
  19. I guess I don’t see Miranda as that much of a miracle? Miranda was Arraez with a little more power before 2021. Now he’s Arraez with a lot more power, which I hope continues. It’s easier to teach a guy who has good plate discipline to hit for power, but it is not easy to teach a guy with power to have good plate discipline. Unfortunately for Rortvedt he’s not a power or plate discipline guy.
  20. I think a lot of us are saying they are locks because if they aren’t the Twins still need to sign/trade for 4 SP which I absolutely do not see happening. I can see them signing/trading for 1-2, not 4. The reason Ober and Ryan are the two names brought up is because of what they have shown so far. They are both ready to be in the bigs. There are no guarantees that they won’t have setbacks but I believe in them way more than I believe in Bundy who has only had one good season (2020) in his career
