  1. The market will set the return for an ace. It is going to matter more how many teams are in play rather than how much another team was able to get for Sale or Verlander. The Twins can play in this market. Everyone has prospects like their number 4 or greater prospects but having top end prospects in Kirilloff or Lewis can set them apart if the market is competitive.
  2. The Twins need to add to the top if their rotation. The Twins need to add to the top of their bullpen. No one should be untouchable.
  3. Neither needs everyday play at SS and both benefit the club with versatility. The decision should be to develop versatile players.
  4. I think it is defense at shortstop that keeps Adrianza on the roster. Correa was out twice last year. The second time they played Bregman at SS and a guy who could have played LF at 3B while Gonzalez played LF. They had games in the second half with both Altuve and Correa out an still played Marwin in LF. I wonder if Marwin had the defense to play regularly at SS he finds a contract in free agency sooner. Arraez if sent down should be given considerable time at SS as well as some time at 3B and LF.
  5. It was Gonzalez at 1B. My mistake. As for pitches that is all on the defense. Sano catches the pop up and Arraez catches the ball at second and it is many fewer pitches. He lost two (or three outs if they get the DP) due to bad defense on routine plays. It would take a good play from the 1B but that is another out he might of got on that broken bat. The alternative was needing to strike guys out and face extra batters at the cost of more pitches.
  6. Did you watch the game? Duffey was really good. He came in with two runners on base and got an easy foul ball pop up that Sano dropped. Instead of folding he fought back to strike out the batter leaving the two inherited runners stranded. In his second inning a great pitch busts the bat of the lead off hitter and the balls falls weakly just over Cron’s glove for a hit. The second guy hits an easy come backer and he throws to second for a possible DP. Arraez drops the throw. He doesn’t fold and strikes out two of the next three with the third out being an easy come backer to the mound.
  7. That isn’t true for me. I have always had hope in Duffey. His career xFIP has been solid as a result of solid strike out and walk numbers. I think it was Brandon Warne who had the tunneling article that I found very intriguing. I think the Twins have a major league talent in Duffey. I believe a Hildenberger is a major league talent also. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Twins utilize an option and give him a chance to reset. They sent out Gibson a few years back. Some interpreted as the end and a demotion because they had given up. I think instead they believed in him and his talent.
  8. I agree. A writer speculated this winter that a Gray/Buxton trade would be a good deal for both teams. Buxton has probably recovered more value than Gray to start the season but neither would be considered cheap. I don't think there is anyone we can acquire today that would be both cheap and truly helpful to this team. I hope they pay in prospects to add to the top of the bullpen or rotation
  9. I don’t think Reed will be effective short of velocity centered around 92. These are the risks of signing relievers. He was relatively young so it seemed like a good risk. It didn’t work out but it shouldn’t stop them from making a similar offer in the future.
  10. A response in the other thread made sense to me about Gonzalez and Astudillo. I wondered about Astudillo at 3B also. With the amount of shifting that happens in the infield it makes sense to me now that Gonzalez is a much better fit there. Gonzalez is a good left fielder and clearly better than Astudillo at that position also but I think his better infield glove is more important than his better outfield glove. We lose range in the Of with Astudillo but get plus range from the other two spots in the outfield. That response coupled with the amount of experience Astudillo has playing in the outfield every winter and the decision made more sense to me.
  11. Wouldn’t the more relevant comparison be within AL? My guess is that there are more NL teams in the top half of those categories without pitching to the DH. If the Twins are generally in the top half of the AL that is better than mediocre to me.
  12. A catchers defense can have a huge impact. They are involved with calling and receiving every pitch. A difference in 40 points of on base percentage is about 1 extra time on base for a full week of play. There are so many opportunities for a good defensive catcher to make up for that deficit and much more in a week of play.
  13. I don’t think it was true last year that most of his starts were against lefties. In fact his ratio of left to right was reasonably normal last year. He did better against right handed pitching. The Twins did platoon him for much of last year. He caught Odorizzi and Lynn with Wilson catching Gibson and Berrios. The platoon wasn’t based on the opposing pitcher.
  14. The Twins need Castro. He three catchers are all valuable and have a role on this team.
  15. The price for Pazos was Hunter Stovall. Not a solid prospect but had a nice debut last year in rookie ball.
  16. Do we agree that we can’t use the last few days of stats available in Fangraphs to determine who is hitting? If not, that is where we disagree.
  17. How should the Twins decide a player is struggling and most importantly that they will continue to struggle? Your response didn’t make it clearer, but maybe that is because it would be impossible for me watching from afar to make that determination. I don’t think I can turn to fangraphs or baseball reference to make that determination in the short term. I certainly don’t want the Twins to make a decision about the next game based on the previous few games.
  18. How would you have the Twins assess that they not only are struggling but reasonably project a struggle that will continue moving forward?
  19. One game at a time... The Twins are getting contributions from all 25. Big inning from Mejia.
  20. I think they will need Mejia and Harper for length in the Astros series. Both are ready to go.
  21. Twin pitchers got a huge lead early and then pitched to contact later in counts. One walk.
  22. Gonzalez is a good left fielder. He is probably better than Rosario. Even with optioning Cave they will have four acceptable outfielders.
  23. Heard on pregame that Wander Javier was close to ready and Kirilloff right behind.
