  1. Might as well go after Pelfrey too. While Sanchez could recover his career, how often does that happen in the same division as the team where it went off-track?
  2. Congrats to Mr. Gardy. It's too bad it's within the division, though.
  3. I'd love Central American expansion, but it won't happen. Canadian teams already have a harder time signing free agents because of different currency, culture, etc. I don't think Central America is unrealistic though. The rich in these countries are still rich. It's everyday folk who can't afford the luxuries like MLB.
  4. Realigning divisions, more than a minor tweak here or there, is always a bad idea to me. Expansion? Meh.
  5. It's best for the org is Sano had hold down 3B for 5 years and learn the position (a la Koskie). That said, they should have a backup plan. Maybe it's Polanco. He played there a fair amount in 2016. I'd guess he's the best candidate to change positions. If Dozier moves, I'd think it would be 1B. I don't think he has the arm for anything else.
  6. I think it all depends on what the FO thinks of Gordon and/or Polanco. I'd do it as the price you listed, but I wonder if that's enough. Qualifying offer is $18mil this year. It seems like Dozier is worth that, compared to other players on the market.
  7. But wasn't 2017 the only time he's been an above average MiLB hitter? Everyone has hot streaks. While I'd love it if he's turned a corner too, I question it.
  8. You're probably right, but the real solution is to get better pitchers. Either Grossman or Vargas probably has to go. I like Grossman as a mentor--he has a good approach, but he's useless on defense and limited with the bat. Vargas has some promise but is what hs is. I'm just not impressed with Garver and I don't think his track record says MLB starter. Maybe a borderline starting C, but that's not exactly an offensive position. Carrying a catcher to DH limits the roster even more.
  9. Park and Garver don't have a chance. Neither is an everyday MLB bat. I expect a middling veteran to be signed, and he will compete with Grossman and Vargas for the job. Maybe all 3 of those will ride the bench and rotate with a "day off" regular taking at bats too. The problem is that means it has to be an OF who can play a little OF, because putting Grossman on the bench means he has to play late inning defense from time to time.
  10. Yikes indeed. Always enjoyed his personality...til now. There's always a side the public doesn't see.
  11. It's not always obvious. It could have to do with the healing process.
  12. This seems obvious, given the recovery time. As much as those without knowledge like to speculate about other causes.
  13. I'm interested in older relievers, kind of like the deal Neshek just finished. 33+ relievers tend to come on 1-2 year deals that aren't a significant burden if it doesn't work out. Yes, Belisle is ancient--but the Twins really weren't out anything if they'd cut their losses. (And this example worked out pretty well in the end.)
  14. This is the hardest thing to acquire, though, as every team in baseball wants this. Most teams want 5 of them. Not that I disagree.
  15. Unless Sano will cost runs on the basepaths in the first 7 innings, I'd say he starts.
  16. Why is Hildenberger pitching when he's already at a career high in IP?
  17. Juan Berenguer
  18. I'd go with Santana, followed by Dozier for year long contributions. If by the half: 1st: Sano (followed closely by Kitzler) 2nd: Rosario (followed by Buxton)
  19. I like most things about the idea of September callups. Game speed is not one of them.
  20. Under the old regime, he'd be guaranteed a spot next year, just because he's out of options. I think he sticks around. In theory they'll boost the pitching more so they don't need to carry 13 pitchers. Let Vargas and Grossman duke it out for DH, then the loser steps up when somebody inevitably gets hurt. Who is the next bat in line in the system: Granite, Garver? Pass. They're useful role players but they aren't everyday players. Or maybe they'll surprise me and trade for another bat (who can hit LHP) and drop one of Grossman/Vargas.
  21. They platooned the pitching staff this year, if that's a thing.
  22. Also, Molitor doesn't seem to trust Mejia, so I'd assume he's the odd man out.
  23. C'mon, we'll need Colon to PH in National League parks.
