  1. I'd take him as a rental, but after last year's inconsistency I'm not sure I'd lock into him for any longer than that. While he personally rubbed me the wrong way, I can only speculate on his clubhouse presence. Anybody is better in a 1st place dugout. That's not on me to decide or know.
  2. The general perception here seems to be that utility is a Falvine emphasis. I hope so because I love the versatility it gives the roster (even if the league goes to 26 next year). I'm glad we have Marwin and that he's a great fit both in role and clubhouse fit, but he was also a spring signee, which makes me wonder if it's by design or luck.
  3. I'm not going to bother with the research, but I feel like Ehire hits way better when he plays more often. Of course, when he's not hitting they also don't put him in the lineup as often. Utility player is a tough role that requires a certain mindset. I'm glad it's working for him. I suspect he's mostly just having a career year with a juiced ball, but I'll take it. Hitting is also contagious.
  4. You can always add insurance to a long-term contract.
  5. A few recent outings remind me of Molitor last year, who I think did the same thing. So...it didn't work them. Fingers crossed it works now.
  6. It's interesting that 3/5 are still on the team. 2/5 in the rotation, and the best starter of that year is out of the league.
  7. It would be fun to see Sonny Gray defeat the Yankees in the post season.
  8. Arraez is safe until Austudillo is back. Even then, I wouldn't be surprised to them keep him and demote Tortuga.
  9. The reason this team has been successful is its MLB-ready depth. Making trades during the biggest grind of the season will only make the team weaker.
  10. Did he ever start an MLB game? I've kind of blocked out most of the 2011-2017 seasons from my memory.
  11. Correct. Then Lawton was traded the year before Stewart (in a deadline deal for Rick Reed). I think they called it "return of the soul patrol".
  12. I feel like the lineup is most different when Rosario is out, so it's a good argument. I'd say the atmosphere is the most different without Austudillo.
  13. I'm happy and excited about Arraez, but let's not hand him a starting job yet. In April, Austudillo was the best player not named Ty Cobb. Also, that I don't want to hand him a starting job speaks volumes for this team's depth. A few years ago we were giving away starting spots to unproven AA players.
  14. I agree, except Cron is an exception as they got him through dumb luck. It's bizarre that he was on waivers in the first place. I also think the Marwin pickup was huge for this team, and might be more luck in the sense that his market never developed this year. But now that they have a track record, I think free agency will be ever better in the future. Players should start wanting to come here instead of settling to come here.
  15. A LOOGY who walks 4.5/9 isn't going to come in and get a guy out often enough. Might as well pick up Duke off waivers.
  16. That's a red flag for sure. But sometimes players pull that stuff to make sure they get traded from the basement dweller to a contender and turn it around. I'm trying to be an optimist here. That doesn't reflect well on a player's personality either, if you ask me.
  17. In a sport where an out in 7/10 of AB gets you into the hall of fame you'd think fans could take failure to execute in a game the team won a little easier than we do.
  18. That's fine too, but I don't think we should ever just give a prospect a job. Development takes time and based on Hicks and Buxton as examples where there wasn't competition it seems like most players need that extra push. Even Morneau had to display Dougie.
  19. I hope Gordon gives him a run for it. Competition is always good at the MLB level.
