  1. When I've heard Bert on a Fox Game of the Week national game he's actually decent. For the Twins, yeah, everyone else has already said it. The jokes weren't funny 10 years ago.
  2. Would that require a 14 man pitching staff to cover all the short starts? It's an intriguing concept.
  3. I don't know enough about Felix or Romero, but I'd assume Gonsalves is pitching 170 IP next year tops, with Jay below that in the gradual buildup the Twins use in through the minors. Maybe they can contribute, but not 30 starts.
  4. $2.2 million for Kitzler is too much? That's barely even "real" major league money. I'm not saying he's an all-star but players really don't come cheaper than that.
  5. Milone is gone. I could go either way on Plouffe and Santiago.
  6. Agree with the first half, not the second half. This is the player's fault, not society's.
  7. An ERA below 9. A career best!
  8. I'm fine with him as a 6th inning guy, but those relievers are dime a dozen. If he's cheap, keep him through arbitration. If they cut him lose, so what. Tonkin is why I read K/9 and mph numbers with a grain of salt.
  9. I don't know the technicalities of the award, but the word "slugger" in its title has me thinking it's about HR more than other stats.
  10. Sano's arm is injured. I wouldn't read too much into 3B this August-September. If it continues next May-June, yes.
  11. Possibly very true, but even so, to retire with a stat line like Tommy Watkins is something.
  12. Or they don't have any MLB caliber pitchers in AAA. They've already gone through, what, 30 this year?
  13. I like this and I think the only reason to tinker is if there's a significant up the middle upgrade in defense from 2016 to 2017 available. Buxton in CF all year would do that and presumably a new C. Polanco can't be worse than Nunez, though I doubt he's much better. Is Polanco at 2B anything more than a slight upgrade over Dozier defensively? If so, keep Dozier, keep Polanco at SS and listen carefully if an offer comes along for a #1-2 starter and a top defensive SS.
  14. I'm with diehard. I think the level of celebration on a walkoff on some mid-season game is excessive given the context. But I don't particularly care either way.
  15. This thread is begging for a Wayne's World meme.
  16. They also have to receive players who cleared waivers in return (or PTBNL), right? I can't think of a post-deadline trade that's been more than a salary dump from the non-contender's POV.
  17. Meh, don't care about a 2 week demotion to AAA for anybody. He's not going to play in MLB and he'll be back up before the moon cycles. Let him get the at bats.
  18. Escobar is a borderline starter/utility player. Which is the best kind because he'll give a manager options and push other players to compete more. When the inevitable injury occurs you don't have to say "oh, Denny Hocking is starting for the next 15 days." Play him when he's hot, sit him when he's not.
  19. Garver has been catching with anyone whose been in the system during ST since he was drafted. During ST the catchers working with every pitcher and basically every level, don't they?
  20. Maybe never. It's "confidential."
  21. That clarifies. I think a "Strasburg type ace" would take way more than Dozier. Do I think 2 maybe 3 Top 100 prospects could be acquired for BD, yes. But not a top 5 and probably not a top 10. Maybe it's a selfish fan thing, but I'd rather see BD hitting in the 1-5 slot of the lineup for 2 more years than to get another Meyer type when there are a few #2-3s already in the system. I'm not 100% opposed, but it's a preference. If BD only had 1 year left on contract I would likely say yes. We already have Escobar and Polanco hitting 5th or 6th instead of 7th-8th. I'd rather not bump them up another spot.
  22. There are a lot of different subjects in this thread, but I really don't see teams trading potential aces these days. You have to develop that within or get lucky on an unexpected player making a jump. Otherwise, it's likely highway robbery for a low level prospect with a 50% shot at success. That may be worth it for some players (Span) but I don't think it is for Dozier.
  23. After the past 2 years I'm less convinced than everyone else that a prospect will suddenly perform at a high level upon call-up. Polanco has hit so far in a SSS. That, plus Polanco has positional flexibility and is getting plenty of at bats now. After literally decades of futility in the middle IF, why trade the second there's a third capable player in the mix. If anything, I'd still look to move Escobar and cross my fingers that Polanco can be near league avg at SS defensively. What risk? The risk that you trade a quality starting 2B for an Alex Meyer who can throw hard, but little else.
