  1. Gutting the team is a strategy for the future. But they gutted the team for pieces that are not about rebuilding anything. I wouldn’t be happy with it either way, but I could live with it if we got returns that were worthy of it. And they also traded pieces that were very wtf. It was a money grab, plain and simple with no real plan for the future. I feel bad for the players who remain. How completely and utterly demoralizing. And every single one of them are probably thinking how can I get out of here.
  2. I’m not sure this is ‘vision.’ I’m not even sure what they did is a plan for the future. I don’t think this was a plan other than one, big money grab. Okay, I get Paddack. I think we got what we could for him. I might even get trading Duran if I squint, but I don’t think we got enough value for him. Because it wasn’t about getting value, it was about money. Bader, Castro, Coulombe, and France, okay, expiring contracts. Stewart I get trading. Given his injury history, sell high when he’s doing well. But we didn’t sell high. We didn’t sell high on any of them, imo. The returns were just not good, imo, especially since it was a seller’s market and we had players other teams WANTED. No, this wasn’t an investment for any future. This wasn’t a tear down to try again another day. We didn’t get what we should have. This was nothing more than a money grab that will not be invested in the future. The FO and ownership never really tried to win it all in this window of opportunity. They shut it down when after winning a round in the playoffs, they pulled the rug out from under all of us. And this? Nothing more than one big money grab by the Pohlads and one big **** you to the fans and the players.
  3. I have never been part of such a fire sale ever

  4. And how many WS did Billy Beane win as a GM? Not sure why anyone thinks Beane ball is a good thing
  5. The fact that we were able to trade so many on our 26-man, players other teams WANTED, tells me this team has underperformed. I don’t think it was a development problem as much as an on-field mgmt problem
  6. It’s mostly the return I’m annoyed with. I don’t think it was a good return.
  7. I don’t think the return was great. I’m not as worried about peripherals. But yeah, they didn’t want to pay him. Still, I think it was a poor trade overall
  8. I get Stewart but will never understand Duran
  9. Every so often they surprise us …
  10. What the heck does this have to do with the topic? It’s Rocco’s fault someone is sending death threats to Ober’s wife? Worst take ever, man. Worst.
  11. While I’m sure that hasn’t helped, I don’t think that’s the crux of it. There has always been horrible fan behavior, ask any black player of any decade, even the present, what they hear from the stands. But the anonymity the internet provides in combination with what has been deemed acceptable behavior in society today has emboldened many to take things to truly uglier levels, that’s what has made the situation far worse; that people can act horribly toward other human beings without recourse or consequence. And feel it is their right to do so with no understanding, empathy or remorse. There’s an entitlement in there that has gotten worse everywhere. As a moderator on this site for over 10 years, there are many here who are/were appalled that we have the audacity to try and curtail this behavior just a little, mostly because they have no recognition of just how bad their actions and words truly are to others and lack any understanding that no, this is not what free speech means.
  12. Well, don’t jinx it on day one. Goodness!
  13. I’m not surprised the women got more, but it is all so disgusting
  14. I wonder what the fan said. There is a line between heckling and hate speech, but I don’t know what was said. https://wgntv.com/sports/white-sox/fan-ejected-from-rate-field-after-heckling-diamondbacks-2nd-baseman-ketel-marte-about-his-late-mother/?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwLJifxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHjDwfMPe9dEoS2qalagIlPKqgaSB2W_d7VVkEAUg149wcuchP7r6i8TarJFH_aem_kW6ptyQeU2L4pEZPPAXYtw
  15. It will just get misused. This, however, is the perfect time for it
  16. I need an ‘Oh ffs!’ reaction button.
  17. For some reason I don’t want our pitchers going. But they are both deserving.
  18. If I could thumbs down this more, I would. Quit being a troll. And it’s ‘paid’ not ‘payed’
  19. Honestly, it makes more sense for Ishbia. Just laughing because the parcel of land Reinsdorf wanted the city and state to build a new stadium on is going to the Chicago Fire owner to build a completely privately funded soccer stadium
  20. The point of the article was clear. It’s a huge tax bill that has major ramifications for many, including how this might affect MLB and the Twins and their potential sale. Just stick to that last part. That’s what this discussion is about and was made clear in the article. Should the author have mentioned the other things? They obviously felt it was necessary to illustrate how some points get buried in these all-encompassing bills and that we may not have noticed or realized; the editors obviously thought it was necessary, so there it is. Do I think it was? No, I think they could have still made their point without it but big deal. Focus on what is pertinent for this website and just ignore the rest. If you and others are so offended by it that you can’t understand the point of the article to stay on track, then just walk away. It’s that simple. It’s unfortunate that real discourse can’t happen, but that’s the way of it, so stick to baseball. As a moderator I sometimes cringe when I see articles like this, especially if I think points could have been made without it and wonder if there is an agenda. I don’t know, I don’t know Peter so I can’t say, and neither do any of you. You are making assumptions and then accusations based on assumptions. Every time I think maybe we can all be adult about this, for once, and every time I am disappointed. Stick to baseball despite what you may feel is an overstep by the author. I have let a lot of comments slide despite my earlier warning. Further conversation that isn’t specifically discussing the baseball points of this article will be removed.
