Wow if trading Hicks (for a part time catcher) garners 17 pages of posts what will happen when Plouffe is traded for a AA control-type pitcher no one has heard of?
It's a fun conversation per usual w/the anti Jobos- I just think back to Escobar's year this year, and how he didn't really settle in at the plate until he was everyday SS. To me it would give Joe (another) excuse for inconsistency.
I was a little surprised Cotts wasn't brought in, seeing it was the middle of an inning. Definitely would've screamed for May if he would've blown it also though.
Agreed - if you think someone is worth enough to take up a roster spot for a season they must be worth working out a trade for, to be able to send them down in the chance you'd like to maximize your roster spots. But remember the days when we would have a Rule 5 guy and a 3rd catcher?!
TR doesn't get it. He did not address the bullpen this offseason save for Blaine Boyer and JR Graham, two examples of TR despondency. We all knew it was an issue. We all saw Casey Fien get exposed last year, and Duensing continue his mediocrity. This was all after watching KC's bullpen in October. Every team we play brings in pitcher after pitcher throwing 95+ trying to miss bats. That's not the TR way though.
I'd say Shane Robinson has some pictures of someone, but I think TR is still basking in his Tommy Millone pickup for Sam Fuld and hopes to recreate it by dealing Robinson...
Can he go into the offseason and work on lateral quickness, do heat yoga or something, and come into camp 2016 ready to compete for starting SS? The guy was an athlete, right?
I think most fans' frustration is that there still seem to be some organization philosophies that we're not interested in, like swinging hard (in case you hit it) and trying to make the opposing batters miss our pitches. We assume they're driven from the TR down
I do imagine Terry Ryan's 'war room' as him sitting in a rocker, wearing readers and an afghan, reading the sports section from a 2002 pioneer press, and dialing other GMs on a rotary phone. I think that's what other GMs imagine too...
