  1. TR, January 2017: "We're confident that <Phil Hughes, Kyle Gibson, Ricky Nolasco, Tyler Duffey, Ervin Santana> will bounce back this year. He's put a lot of work in this offseason to <strengthen his shoulder, work on his mechanics, get in shape> and we expect him to be a different pitcher this season."
  2. Looking forward to Giancarlo versus Pat "Regression to the (Twins) Mean" Dean.
  3. We have enough 'projects' thank you
  4. Or that guy in AAA after he's past the June deadline that old TR is waiting for
  5. The majority of MLB GMs aren't dummies, they know the position TR is in and the 'caliber' of 'talent' he has available. TR probably can't win - he won't get anything in return for whomever he moves, which only further exposes his initial mistakes. I think he'll be at a personal stalemate the whole trading season, but it would be nice if some players could actually display some value. Begin by selling high on the 2 guys you know are overachieving.
  6. Plouffe would be an upgrade at 3B for which contending team? In hindsight, Plouffe should have been the one to get OF reps this year to improve his marketability.
  7. What happened to Dozier hitting 7th? He had that one game where he homered and got hit by a pitch? He looks as lost as ever up there
  8. Doubtful concept - we're all enjoying more minor league kool aid with Tyler Jay, Kohl Stewart, etc. 2018.
  9. Well they should put him in right field then if they read the TR handbook
  10. How about Boston - with Panda being fat and out. Maybe we can trade Plouffe and Nolasco for Panda?
  11. In Costanza-like logic, wouldn't the opposite of TR's instincts have to be in fact the right answer, therefore, bring him up now?
  12. How's your ankle Ricky? Oh it's sore again? Let's try a 15 day stint on the old DL.
  13. I think a GM has to stand behind his plan, which in this case was rebuilding/developing talent. But also hold your staff accountable at all levels for production and be able to improvise when results aren't happening. Multiple years we've heard of the fantastic MN farm system, yet all there seems to be is raw talent of Buxtons and Rosarios and Berrios, etc. Many have come up the the majors only to seem over-matched and un-prepared. If there is such dependency on the young talent, with a sprinkling of Plouffes and Suzukis, then the GM should have a plan for development of key pieces and contingencies upon their likelihood of talent advancement.
  14. Nope - this is Robbie Grossman part II. Your first instinct was correct.
  15. You can hit line drives, but if the other team can position the majority of their players to the left side of the diamond, there's an increased likelihood that they'll be caught. If you can't even try to hit the the occasional turbo-sinker to the right side of the diamond when there's runners at first and second, then you just don't get it.
  16. Expect a few more lackluster TR performances and then the obligatory 'shoulder fatigue' diagnosis
  17. Sweeney/Quentin/Mastrianni/Benson combined for 126 spring at-bats. I don't know what that means, but it seems like a waste, when guys like Kepler and Buxton need more experience. Something must not have seemed right then if those guys seemed like decent alternatives.
  18. Bring on Toronto!
  19. Last year Robin Ventura was on the hot seat. This year, after addressing outfield defense with Jackson and moving Eaton, and making 2 smart trades for Frazier and Lawrie, and adding a couple of solid veteran catchers: First Place. A GM who sits on his hands and invents garbage like 280 lb right fielders, more Casey Fien, a AA catcher for a plus defensive outfielder, a Korean slugger to DH to keep bad defenders in the field: Fire the Manager?
  20. The minute I flipped over Zobrist doubles. Midas touch
  21. I love looking at Similarity Scores on baseball-reference.com: #9, Clete Thomas. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grossro01.shtml
