  1. Right or wrong, the Twins made their 'cheap' decision on not extending Dozier last winter. I think that affected his performance this year. If that's remotely true, then it's a self fulfilling prophecy. The common fan's argument should be we develop Dozier, Escobar etc and don't keep them. Convenient now for owners that 30 year old players are a terrible investment. The illusion is that minor leagues are a pipeline of guaranteed talent that makes an 87 Twins inevitable. Buxton should be a daily reminder that the strategy is flawed and requires luck. I'm glad they at least kept Gibson, for now.
  2. Both of Dozier's homers have been against Matt Albers. Let's give him a week. I will say the swing on the first homerun was the best Dozier swing I saw all year.
  3. We don't know the details of the extension, do we? It could have been a low ball 2 year extension offer.
  4. I think the wonder twins are eager to tear things down to make it their team. i was looking forward to going to a couple of games yet where the team had a punchers chance even if it meant finishing strongly at 79-83 with most core pieces coming back next year healthy and ready to go. I don't think we'll see that now, and you won't see me at target field.
  5. Personally I've sat through too many classic Gibby starts to not want to enjoy the fruit of his development. I have to think the Twins brass think the same way - good developed pitching is such a premium.
  6. They've said the juiced balls might be a product of a more consistent manufacturing process, so I don't see that changing. I think maple bats will be outlawed by then however.
  7. I'd be fine to see Dozier traded but not at the expense of rushing Gordon. He's got like 6 walks in AAA. He needs more time. The same is true to me about Sano - don't just bring him back up because we've traded Escobar, or Dozier and need Esco at 2nd. Commit to the bit and make sure Sano is ready.
  8. Which contending teams might Gibson or Odorizzi help? I would imagine most contenders already have decent rotations, so teams might be looking to upgrade their #5 and less likely to meet what the Twins would be asking for.
  9. Are there any players who will need injury replacements? There always seems to be a few
  10. 2 more data points that had generated a similar train of thought in my small brain - I don't think anyone player was glad that Dougie Baseball was fired, let alone while cleaning up from a hurricane. Buxton spoke of Doug 'as a brother to them' Dozier's outspoken attitude the night before opening day 'I'm a free agent'. What did he tell his teamates? 'I've busted my butt for the last 7 years hit 40 homeruns, won a gold glove, got MVP votes and they won't offer me an extension?' To me that's how Dozier has played this year with that shell shocked demeanor and I think it's wore off on the group as a whole.
  11. Last year was weird too - with all of the Adam Wilk type pitchers and the Vargas shuttle too. It's hard to identify an organizational strategy other than 'add statisticians and draft better'. The minor league coaching changes do not seem to be fruitful yet either. I get that it's early in terms of an organizational restructure.
  12. Classic Gibby in the 5th inning also. Given a grand slam then comes back and nibbles at the strike zone, then gets hit around. 5 innings, 8 hits 2 walks. Agree though wasn't helped by the 3rd Baseman Catcher.
  13. He lines up with odorizzi. Skip odorizzi for a start and start slegers. You have your pick of guys to dfa for a roster spot
  14. I'd be interested in seeing a post prioritizing the players whom should be DFA'd. There are literally 5-7 candidates. Adrianza batting 5th? Molitor might not be perfect but he can only write down the names given to him.
  15. The worst thing I saw last night was Sano now striking out against fastballs over the plate
  16. I've been an Adrianza hater - but he must be working at his craft because he has improved this year. Hopefully it inspires those whom aren't hitting.
  17. Work in other pitchers such as Duke - who's been more effective in a Loogy role Rodney - 50 year old closer who has come around nicely Rogers - Has been ineffective all year Magill - has been brilliant in a mop up role Who am I missing - Busenitz and Curtiss are in Rochester. Maybe you start feeding Magill into some higher leverage situations. Starting pitchers need to throw more than 5 1/3 innings every night. It also seems like we've played a lot of extra innings - which might only seem like it because they've been painful extra innings.
  18. We have 5 relievers w/20+ innings pitched with ERAs under 3.26. Please elaborate.
  19. I'm neutral on the coaches' responsibility. To me they're such easy scapegoats. This is the major leagues - players have established themselves to get to this level they own the majority of the blame for under-performing. The coaches need to help the players with technique when they get off track. That being said it seems like every other team gets more out of their talent. I'm not sure where Falvine sit on this season. I think if their feet are held to the fire they defend it as a lost season due to injuries/suspensions. I think Molly deserves the same. I know we want the compensation pick, but I consider trading Dozier soon if he continues to sleep walk through games.
  20. I agree, but both are sinking. I do think Buxton needs to be re-calibrated in the minors even if he's dominated there before.
  21. Shake up something to save the season. Influx of youth with Gordon. Addition by subtraction by dropping Adrianza and Grossman. Catch lightning in a bottle with the triumphant arrival of Chris Carter. Buxton and Sano to AAA. I turned off the game after 7 last night because I new the ending. I'm going to stop turning on the games.
