  1. This is really the crux of all issues to me. Though it's also a nice built in excuse. If you bring in talent you'll find at bats for those who deserve them. The continued inaction on improving the bullpen to me is a lost opportunity. You have a potentially young competitive team that lost so many close games last year, with virtually no contributions from Buxton/Sano. It seems like the WS Royals team's core almost rose to the height of their strong bullpen. Why couldn't that happen here.
  2. He gave up 11 home runs last year. I can't take any more walk off losses than endured last year.
  3. There could be a nice chunk of change coming off the books after this year - Reed, Pineda, Castro, Odorizzi, Schoop, Cruz. Where we are now seems to be at the cusp of a rebuild
  4. I was going to say are we sure TR isn't pulling these strings?
  5. I like the idea if he is more of a multi inning relief pitcher - he and Mejia could both be. Given the number of 5 inning starts from Odorizzi and the unknowns with Pineda it would be nice to have some length instead of piecing things together for 4-5 innings.
  6. I know Falvey didn't say 'no more 1 year deals', but I find it funny that the first 2 FA contracts signed this year, are 1 year deals
  7. I think either could be serviceable in the mold of perennial number 5 starter Wade Miley. Can we find some Josh Haders to go with them though(?)
  8. It would seem to me that if you have unknowns, like Buxton or growth from Kepler, that it shouldn't dissuade additions it would create depth. If you could sign a Michael Brantley and a Jose Iglesias, I think you could still find at bats for Kepler, Cave, Polanco, etc. Lack of depth was exposed last year.
  9. I think it's kind of surprising it seems like a move you make in early February after the shortstop upgrades were all gone. Maybe Polanco gets traded who knows with this Front Office.
  10. I don't disagree with your sentiment and as a (potential) ticket buyer I sure hope they do something. I just don't see them doing much this offseason - a couple of role players, a relief pitcher, more buy low candidates to minor league deals who will end up getting way too many at bats on the big club during the season.
  11. It's a process and this year the focus will be on evaluating how the new coaches impact the current talent.
  12. I think there's a higher likelihood of landing Machado than Dozier coming back, imo.
  13. I think the concussion/eyesight/pitch recognition was part of Mauer's issue at times as well. I think he was able to mostly just react with his hands and therefore wouldn't keep his legs underneath him to drive the ball and would end up rolling everything to 2nd base. It seems as if Buxton has been at bat just trying to react as well and not anticipating anything.
  14. Give him all the chances he needs. Worst case is he's a nice 4th outfielder. Continue to improve the quality of your depth, like we did with Cave.
  15. I don't agree with, but expect a minimalist approach. I think the FO will attempt to use their new coaching staff as the primary catalyst for hoping for better results from a number of fringe players, at least in terms of pitchers.
  16. I was envisioning something similar, so thank you for giving it some real thought and color.
  17. I think the roster stays as is with a Jose Iglesias here or a relief pitcher there. If Sano and Buxton again don't take off, then it's the 2021 plan, where we tank 2 more years for better draft picks plus pick up some talent for Gibson and Taylor Rogers along the way.
  18. Biggest need is about 3 Eduardo Escobars in the lineup and a bullpen overhaul. Turn half the walkoff losses into wins and we're sniffing .500.
  19. To me the shuttle of Taylor Motters, Adam Wilks, John Fields etc has been a distraction and probably a hindrance to the organization if/when we choose to try them for some time in place of seeing how ready a Romero is. It's like we think we're going to learn something about Nick Tepesch by having him pitch for us. Don't you have a scouting department? At most what you end up with from these experimental 4A players is a Robbie Grossman. I know TR added these guys too but it seems like the Twins organization does so way more than anyone else.
  20. This has never been my take...but the season is too long and they should start the playoffs in the middle of September. All of this irrelevant September baseball is a drag on the sport
  21. I'm annoyed by the Opener concept because it's emulating a team that's trying to be different because of obvious fiscal constraints in Tampa, especially relative to their divisional competition. It's like we're saying 'ooh we want to be really cheap too because that's how we baseball'. Make it relevant to your talent if you're going to do it - use Odorizzi and Stewart for 3 inning starts, and have a unique strategy to follow him - build up May and Magill as 3 inning middle men or something
  22. What are the options for Buxton to keep seeing pitching if isn't brought up in September?
  23. Right or wrong, the Twins made their 'cheap' decision on not extending Dozier last winter. I think that affected his performance this year. If that's remotely true, then it's a self fulfilling prophecy. The common fan's argument should be we develop Dozier, Escobar etc and don't keep them. Convenient now for owners that 30 year old players are a terrible investment. The illusion is that minor leagues are a pipeline of guaranteed talent that makes an 87 Twins inevitable. Buxton should be a daily reminder that the strategy is flawed and requires luck. I'm glad they at least kept Gibson, for now.
  24. Both of Dozier's homers have been against Matt Albers. Let's give him a week. I will say the swing on the first homerun was the best Dozier swing I saw all year.
