  1. They gave him an extension because he had a very good year. You will notice most extensions come after good years.
  2. You can't spend money you don't have. We spend 9.5M on an academy in the Dominican a couple of years ago. Last off-season we spent 8.5M on renovations at Target Field. I believe we ate 2 years of Molly's salary. Anyone can say we are pocketing the money, but that doesn't make it true.
  3. I agree on the big bat and hope we can trade for a 2/3. IMHO Hildy pitched himself out of the opening day mix. I would spent big on a reliever with closing experience.
  4. Completely agree. We need our best pitchers on the field next season. He can always be moved to the rotation in 2020 after receiving valuable experience. Romero, Stewart, Mejia, Gonsalves, and even Thorpe may well be ready for the rotation come 2020.
  5. The White Sox will be bottom feeders for the next 3 or 4 years minimum. Lions, and Tigers, and Bears......oh my!
  6. Completely agree. Remember Berrios!
  7. We are going to contend in 2019. Romero, Mejia, and Stewart are among our best 12-13 arms. Put those 3 in the pen to gain experience. They can always move to the rotation in 2020.
  8. He's not going to the bullpen. He will be a starting pitcher in The Show for the next 3-4 years.
  9. That 2nd round pick was not worth anything like the 7.25M we got. Also, we don't build thru the draft exclusively. For close to 10 years now, we've been one of the most successful teams in IFA. As a side note, this past year was the first time ever, there wasn't unhappiness because we didn't spent our entire allotment in the first 30 days or so.
  10. Hughes was Darvished. Hard to trade a player who's Darvished. How long did it take to eat his salary, once he was reasonably healthy?
  11. Not at all. There is no downside to starting a college reliever as a starter. Every article I read about Jay prior to the draft had him as a starter. The lights didn't come on for Hicks until he was almost 28. I don't recall the board being at all unhappy when he was moved.
  12. There are many different types of Darvishes. His was a lesser one.
  13. Don't confuse payroll commitments with player availability. We have one of the top farm systems in all of baseball and 3 or 4 players who are reasonably close. Why don't you ask Mike how much he wants to spend blocking our future stars? As I recall, he also wanted to trade current players, for those with 3,4, or 5 years control. Obviously he wasn't paying attention during the trade deadline.
  14. Did you know they were the first team in the history of baseball to go from losing 100 games, to making the playoffs?
  15. Did you know Haley spent time on the roster of the best team in baseball last season? Unfortunately he keep getting Darvished.
  16. Good job on a tough topic, but I don't agree with your conclusions. I see Rodgers and Reed being set, May did enough to pitch himself into the mix, and IMHO Hildenberger pitched himself out of the mix. Stewart, Mejia, and Romero are all in our top 12-13 arms, and can return to being starters next season. Buy at least one and hopefully 2 bullpen arms.
  17. Ted, this was really well done. With all the moves at the dead line, I'm still trying to keep everybody straight. I think they are going to do it again this season.
  18. Cave is a reasonable replacement for Buxton. Cron and Cruz should be able to replace Sano's production. You put the pieces together now, you don't wait til July.
  19. This is simple. If Gibson regresses trade him at the deadline. If he continues to shine, extend him 2-3 years or give him a QO.
  20. That's one interpretation, but it is certainly not mine. You do realize there is still all kinds of time to make moves? Calm down, take a deep breathe. There were fundamental changes in free agency last off-season. No one knows how many or if any of those fundamental changes are permanent. Let it play out. Plenty of time to panic later.
  21. Cron plays 1B and Cruz is primary DH. Austin goes to the minors where he belongs.
  22. Every team has a very long list of players with them for less than a year. Also, this board was in one hell of a hurry to add players and still is. I see Cron as a decent pickup.
