  1. I gotta harken back to ol' Gene Mauch's comment, when the Twinks signed Glenn Adams- when asked what position he'd fit? "He plays bat."
  2. Tell you what- I've never seen him except on highlights, but everything I read about him sounds just like The Captain. My gosh, they're practically the same size, they even have a similar (dang handsome- yes, I'm jealous) look. Except this time, he'd be playing for the forces of good, instead of evil. I'm even more excited about this kid than I was about Bux at the same point.
  3. As an old salt, I appreciate this series so much! It's great to jog through the glory days- heck, even the gory daze, of Twinks history. I was just too young to actually remember Vic Power, but I started 1st grade in '65, and have been a Twins fan ever since. (Heh-- ain't it great when your team is successful when you're a little kid, and you think it's going to be that way every year?) I remember Mincher well, loved him as a Twin, but- the first time my family journeyed from ND to the actual Twin Cities to see an actual game- double header, against the A's in '70- Mincher hit a crucial double to beat 20-yr-old Bert in game 1, then cracked 2 taters off Jim Kaat to beat the Twins in the nightcap. I hated him that day. I was also listening on the crackly radio one warm summer day, when Rich Reese hit a pinch-grand slam to stop Dave McNally's 15-game winning streak from the start of the season. (God, how much did we all hate the Orioles then, anyway). The Twinks have been blessed with some real studs at 1B through the years. Waiting to see who's going to emerge as the next one. The 1st post-Mauer crop, whew... I don't know. Maybe Sano will emerge, but, it might have to be Rooker or Larnach, or....
  4. First off, thanks to the crew putting these reads together. Whew - at least this one sounds encouraging. The last few synposes, Rooker especially, made me want to give up all hope once the downside portions were related. We've been tantalized for years about the Bux-Sano-Berrios axis, with a couple sweet supporting players, and that hasn't panned out so well so far... But, like the eternal Twinkie fan, I try to be more hopeful than fearful.
  5. As per the photo atop this article- Whichever role Romero winds up in, I'm just glad that no Minny pitchers have to hand the ball back to Molly this year.
  6. You mean, like a circular saw, or a cold chisel, or such?
  7. Great! Now all we need is a Sano bounceback, and a Buxton bounceback, a Kepler bounceback, a Polanco bounceback, an Addison Reed bounceback, an Odorizzi bounceback, a Schoop bounceback, a Hildenberger bounceback, a Pineda bounceback.... And a closer. Then, we might even contend for the Central!!
  8. But if he came to Minny, at least he'd have some actual use for a beard. B-r-r-r-r-r-r......
  9. Heh.... Sign 'em both. Just to make heads explode all over baseball. Come on, Falvine, you're playing with house money, anyway.
  10. I'm finding it hard to get excited about this signing-- my first question was, who goes from the 40-man now? I love me some Granite, but I think he'd be the one that might suck the least to lose. Heck, I don't even know. I was hoping for some Cody Allen news, not this.
  11. You know, this kind of reminds me of trading for John Ryan Murphy, because he hit that one home run against Perkins that one time.
  12. Plus, he was a sleeper I picked up for my fantasy team a few seasons ago- and he was a HOSS! :-)
  13. "Minnesota could end up striking late again on someone like Dallas Keuchel or Cody Allen." Yes, please. Either or both.
  14. I guess I don't mind this pickup- But I'm more interested in who goes from the 40?
  15. We had 3 big cornerstones we all waited for a few seasons ago- Sano, Bux, and Berrios. So far, only 1 has been a consistent major league asset, and no world beater. I'm sad. Still somewhat hopeful, but about to cut bait and begin the wait for the Lewis - Kiriloff axis to 'arrive.'

  18. I'm so glad this big shoe finally dropped. I really happy with this move, not only for his bat that the Twinks sorely needed, but for his potential impact on Sano, Eddie R, maybe even Bux. Thank you, Falvine, for this slightly tardy Xmas gift.
  19. "Andrew Vasquez was a 32nd-round pick who never garnered prospect list love, but he earned his way all the way to the Major Leagues last season. " True, where MoY allowed him to throw 3-4 pitches per outing once in a while. I'm excited to see some of these young bucks in the next cpl years, and hopefully, we've got a Mgr now that will let them actually play a little.
  20. Man, Segura is the guy I REALLY wanted. Phillies are building something over there...
  21. I know this is old news now, but I was just thinking of Tyler Austin waking up and checking his twitter feed that morning.... "They signed who....? What th......? What am I, chopped liver here...?"

The real Terra Nova crew. Their bodies still rest on the Ross Ice Shelf.

Long-ago LA production of "Terra Nova." Yours truly 2nd row C., as Robert Scott
