  1. "...what I think was LaVelle..." Omg... Hm. Hard to argue with 30% off, tho...
  2. I've been following this kid for the last couple years. Agree with Ace, he has the best baseball name since Willie Mays Hayes, and a heck of a good head on his shoulders, too. He sounds so optimistic and hard-working, and I have high hopes for him! Hey, has he been adopt-a-prospected yet?
  3. This was really interesting. Didn't know all of that data before. Good stuff! Sometimes, though, it's not just an individual pitcher, but how he fits into a rotation that makes him (and the team) more effective over the long haul, and within a 3 or 4 game series- imagine your opponent facing the off-speed, spinny, side-winding Smeltzer one day, followed the next day by a flame-throwing righty like Brusdar Grat.... oh, never mind.
  4. I would like to add a #12: jersey depth- or maybe breadth. According to the photo atop this article, I'm glad to see Blankenhorn joining the ranks of such icons as Doug Mientiewicz and Paul Thormodsgard as having names that wrap around the entire back of the jersey. I'm almost glad we traded away guys like Hu and Gil now.
  5. This is very encouraging- and even moreso since Jose seems to agree with the process. Much has been written about his incredible workout regimen, but you've gotta get a clue if you're working out that hard in the offseason, and during the season, and you fade badly towards the end. I'll be looking forward to seeing how the results pan out.
  6. The Gearrin pickup was worth it just so we could see that clip of him twisting Manny Machado around like a pretzel. I was gonna make a snide remark about Manny's haircut, too, but that was my own haircut circa 1989. I have the same one now, but sort of in reverse...
  7. I saw this headline, and thought the same thing- I remember that I had liked Palacios in those days, but wow, he's really fallen off a cliff. Not even among the TB top 50. Right now that trade looks like robbery... I'm glad this was posted- maybe I can stop throwing up in my mouth a little whenever I think about Matt Capps.
  8. Heh... excellent article right here: https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2020/2/13/21136476/jim-crane-houston-astros-sign-stealing-apology
  9. Uh-oh... ya think teams around the league will be puttin' on the foil?
  10. No clean hands, and no clean hearts, either. The Asstros have really set themselves up to be Evil Empire, Jr. From the despicable Brandon Taubman espisode, and the way they handled it, to the current day, where they're STILL not handling it, the organization has carved a path to being the next franchise that everybody roots against. Thanks, RBS, for this primer on so many public "apologies" that sports figures, celebs, and others use. There are few things that p*ss me off more than these lukewarm non-apologies that follow this same pattern over and over again. (My all-time favorite: "It's not who I am...") Moreover, the people who use them don't seem to realize that their words don't just dissipate in the air after they're said, they live on forever in the digital ether. They can never escape their mealy-mouthed, limp, stale mutterings, and the reflections on their character. It's also a primer that any parent can use as a fine example of how NOT to stand up and be an honorable man or a woman in this world. Now, I'm going to get busy planning my next vacation to Greely. You know, just in case.
  11. What specifically they didn't like about the medical report was that their fans were caning them over the deal. They claimed to find something they didn't like in order to save face, and maybe their clown-shoe-wearing jobs.
  12. Couldn't happen to a nicer club. Except maybe the Yankees.
  13. He.... sent... his appetizer back.... again?!? Where is he? Lemme at that guy!
  14. That's a really good debriefing on the JD topic. (Other than Mardy Fish being more famous as a tennis player ;-) ) I hope, as well, that this is a harbinger of breaking that old mold of being "in on" talented players, and "just missing out," ad infinitum-- making the longest damn winters in the league even longer with no glimmer of summer hope from a big FA signing... Thanks, Nick!
  15. Heh... probably when he hits another damn wall at full tilt again...
  16. I keep tellin' folks, we're gonna be on one or the other end of a heckuva lot of 11-9 scores this year...
  17. Another starter? No, they have starters aplenty. A quality, high-level starter? Yes. Desperately.
  18. This is awesome news. Now, let's trade for a quality starter, or we're gonna have to be winning a lot of games by 11-9 or so.
  19. What an intriguing scroll through the espn site- 1st article, Twins sign Donaldson. Next article, Cora fired. Wow. I hate the thought of anybody losing their job, but sometimes it's justified. I believe it is in this case, and I wonder if Beltran will be next.
  20. Well, that shoe may be yet to drop, but in light of the evidence given so far, Cora and Beltran both need to be spanked- hard. And both of them Mlb managers? No way those slimy dudes should walk, or get a slap on the wrist. We'll see.
  21. As a UND grad, I can only be about halfway happy about NDSU winning.
  22. Welp, 'spose I'll just wait then. There's just something so, so familiar about this Twins off-season, let's see, what is it? The fact that we didn't address problem #1- a quality stater, and problem #1A- another quality starter? Patched that over with a couple of the usual bargain-bin creaky reclamation projects, and called it a day? Where have we seen that before? The utter embarrassment of whom we sent to the mound in the playoff didn't make an impact on the FO? 101 wins, a murderous offense that may even be better next year, a fairly weak division, why weren't at least a couple of quality SPs clamoring to come here? (And no, we were never getting Cole or Steven, but there were others). OK, I'll wait. 3... 2... 1...
  23. Well, why would he sign here? The FO has already signaled it's not serious about competing by not grabbing an impact starter.
