  1. If Buxton wasn’t injured half the time he wouldn’t be getting offers of $100 million. We would be talking about 10/$300 million contracts.
  2. Not going to pretend I know who any of these players are in the proposed trades. That’s about what I would expect though. Either long shot A ball players or fringe players that need to be added to the 40 man roster, like Smeltzer, Cave, Raley, etc. I’d rather keep Cruz, personally. Unless he requests a trade himself and wants to chase a WS ring.
  3. I doubt Pohlad is ready to cut ties with the FO duo, given his past history of patience as long as they’re profitable. It’s entirely fair to start questioning whether they’re delivering what they were hired on for. Which is developing pitching without the need of spending big money in FA or prospect capital. I anticipated seeing lesser known prospects flying through the system this year, and it’s been the exact opposite. I fully understand there was no MiLB last year. That doesn’t mean they sat on the couch and ate chips all year. They still had training regimens and pitching programs to follow. It’s perplexing why they’re being so conservative with promotions.
  4. What’s stopping them then? Because 2 waiver wire picks are in AAA vs. any AA arm getting a promotion.
  5. There isn’t an arm ready in AA to make the move to AAA?
  6. In the last week they’ve picked up Barraclough and Burrows instead of progressing their own draft picks through the system. Normally I don’t care who’s in AAA but it’s a necessity to be there in order to get called up to the show.
  7. Yet another waiver claim jumping ahead of Balazovic, Winder, Sands, etc. in line for AAA and possibly MLB reps. Something’s fishy with our player development.
  8. If you’re brave enough to scroll through the comments you’ll see how Berrios is viewed from the Mets’ fan base. Shocking I know, every fan values their own prospects like gold.
  9. If that’s the case that signals to me we’re keeping Buxton/Berrios/Rogers for 2022 and going for it. I’m not sure that’s realistic if we miss the playoffs this year.
  10. Are we sure $130 million is the new baseline to budget for? I’m not so sure after 2020 without fans, and depleted attendance this year because of an underperforming team.
  11. It’s nice to have confirmation that there are worse talented and performing teams than the Twins. Texas is one of those teams. With more people getting healthier by the day, I’m looking forward to more Larnach-Buxton-Kepler/Garlick OF lineups. Falvey/Levine/Rocco appear to be on the same page playing the young guys more than the veterans unlikely to contribute next year. I’m happy about that. As we head into July, it’s time to move Sano to a bench fill in role and let Kirilloff take over 1B. Maybe Sano can find his way back into the lineup the rest of the year if/when Cruz is dealt. Cross fingers there’s good news with Cruz’s neck…
  12. I’m with you. There won’t be an internal candidate ready and able to meet Berrios’ 3 WAR benchmark. The ones that can will be much more expensive in free agency than Berrios’ final arbitration year. Trading for one will require a lot of prospect capital. He’s been offered extensions the past 2 seasons and declined. In order to lock him in now, we’ll have to go above and beyond. Another year tacked on to the counter offer from Berrios’ representation. Another million or two added on to the AAV. The time to pay up and get a reasonable extension was 2 years ago when the negotiations started. It’s too late.
  13. I can’t imagine a worse time to try and extend Berrios after what could be a 90+ loss season. He’s given every indication he’s testing free agency, so this article is 1.5 years too early to talk about.
  14. Could be 28… As @Mike Sixel says, what would Tampa do? They’d probably pull him too. Rocco’s learning from the best ?
  15. It sure is nice watching a pitcher with command of his pitches. Night and day difference between Ober and Alcala, who has no idea where the ball is going once it leaves his hand.
  16. The next wave is already here IMO. Larnach and Kirilloff look like keepers. Arraez and Jeffers under pre-arb rates, Polanco and Kepler signed beyond 2023 at reasonable rates, Garver at arb-1 status next year. The offense is pretty young, and who knows, maybe Miranda and Lewis find their way up to MLB as reinforcements. I think this winter they’ll need to decide between Polanco and Arraez to man 2B full time and flip the other. The big challenge obviously is the pitching staff. I have no answer for that unit.
  17. Thank you for pointing out the other side of the coin for both scenarios. I think every team in baseball now has an analytics-driven FO. So the tanking route that Houston and Chicago successfully made is more difficult to pull off. There’s a scenario where the Twins trade players like Buxton and Berrios and end up being a perpetual losing team. Baltimore is still a god awful team 4 years later after trading Machado and any veteran that was decent. Pittsburgh is still many years away from contending. The Marlins got lucky in a shortened season to make the playoffs, and other than that, have been bottom feeders since trading Yelich and many others.
  18. We’re closer to the KC model than we care to admit. Interesting to look at the comments from less than 4 months ago. The kool aid was strong.
  19. It’s disappointing that this is the direction the Twins are heading. It’s going to be a long time until we stumble upon another game changing talent like Buxton. It’s Falvey and Levine’s call whether they want to tear things down. If they do, my interest level in this team will drop significantly. P.S. I never, ever want to hear about an extended contention window again. Should have pushed in every chip we had in 2019.
  20. With Sano, I tend to believe he has inside info. He’s mentioned that they would move on from him the last couple of podcasts. In regards to Donaldson, it sounded like speculation if they intend to do a bigger rebuild for 2023. You also touched on what they discussed. He’s not overly expensive. The issue is going to be what percentage of his remaining $20 million we would pick up to trade him for a decent prospect? I’m not sure it’s worth making the trade if the Twins have to cover 50+% of the remaining contract. Similar story for Donaldson.
  21. Gleeman has mentioned on their podcast the last couple of weeks if anyone would be willing to take on Sano’s contract he’d be gone. I tend to believe that, considering before everyone got hurt, he was demoted to a platoon role vs LH pitching. I like the idea of Kirilloff settling in at 1B for his controllable years. Having him and Larnach in the corners would be doing a disservice to the CF covering the rest of the OF.
  22. Beyond flipping the rental players I don’t see this being a bold trade deadline for us. There might be a blockbuster trade that happens in MLB. For the most part, I think it’s going to be a quiet trading period, for the same reasons why we don’t have depth ready right now. No MiLB season in 2020 and minimal opportunities to scout other teams’ players in the last 15 months. The league is littered with injuries, and teams that do have MLB ready prospects in the upper minors will need them for their own depth. And A ball players are playing under different rules than AA/AAA. All of that makes it quite difficult to pull off a Berrios/Buxton/Rogers trade in season.
  23. 3.5 months to figure out whether to re-tool for 2022 or rebuild for 2023 and beyond. I have a hard time believing they’ll trade either of Buxton or Berrios until the offseason. $50 million comes off the books after the season. Potentially more than that if we can find teams willing to take on part of Sano and Donaldson’s contracts.
