  1. Can't imagine the feeling of betrayal some of these players have with this league... Imagine knowing that the owner of the baseball team you're on doesn't think your personal value is worth $10 an hour. There are going to be dozens of future major league baseball players released. Teams are mostly bad at managing the bottom 25% of their roster. I hope the smart teams take advantage and pick up some of these new free agents.
  2. When/how are top players going to make up the lost $27 million? If they opt out, will their contracts simply toll until 2021? And the contract expiration season is pushed one year into the future?
  3. A very good thread relating to this topic. I’ve consistently been pessimistic about baseball and other sports happening this season. There are several reasons why below.
  4. I was extremely jealous of Mark Buerhle. That dude was a Twins Killer. 52 starts - 30-19 record with a 3.68 ERA and 6 complete games career against the Twins. If you blinked during a Buerhle start it was already the 7th inning.
  5. I disliked the regime that gave him that contract more than Nolasco himself. He was the exact same pitcher that had an ERA 2 runs higher than his FIP throughout his tenure here. Signing him to that contract provided unrealistic expectations for him to be better than he was. With all of that being said, I was thrilled the minute he was traded away.
  6. I’ve been mostly pessimistic about sports returning this year, and unfortunately the goal posts keep getting moved 60 days out. I was hoping we would have more clarify in May, but we still have the same question holding us all back from resuming a somewhat normal life. Where are the widely available tests?
  7. I figured this project was canceled like everything else in 2020. Thanks for making my proposal a reality.
  8. Any positive spin about a potential season I’ve read makes 2 large assumptions. 1) An enormous amount of test kits will be produced in 90 days or less. 2) Players will be accepting the conditions of isolating themselves from their families for an extended period of time. I’ll leave out the test kits because it’s been mentioned in numerous other threads. Most of these players are fairly young with small children at home. That’s a big ask for any civilian to accept. These people are not trained military personnel, who are committed to protecting this country and deployed to areas around the world. They are normal civilians who happen to throw a ball harder than the average person, and hit a ball with a bat.
  9. I’m not going to rain on anyone’s parade if you want to continue hoping for sports to come back... I’m not optimistic about it. And here’s a dirty little secret, I don’t miss them that much.
  10. Yeah for being the only console baseball game on the market they’ve done consistently well for the last 7-8 years. I miss having competition for sports games... MVP Baseball was great back in the day on PS2! Madden used to be waaaay better when they had to compete against 2K Sports. NBA Live used to be a thing!
  11. Do you sim the games or actually play them? I’ve noticed some pretty wild glitches on this game... The opponent I played against hit a foul ball that should have went into the seats, but somehow the ball made its way back into fair territory for a stand up triple. I’ve also seen the pitcher bare hand a line drive coming at him, then proceed to throw the ball to 2nd base with his glove hand.
  12. I’m sure you’ll all be able to figure something out. Looking forward to a time when sports are back. Until then, it’s hard for me to muster the will to care about sports.
  13. Everyone just do your part. There’s only one blue print that’s worked so far from China and South Korea. They quarantined everyone and found a way to prevent it from spiking in the environment. I know sports has been the fabric of our society and makes us feel normal. It’s just not that important right now.
  14. 100% agreed. There are 2 players currently on the 40 who are being groomed to be the next Adrianza (Gordon and Blankenhorn) with more in the pipe. I like the progression we saw from May last year. It takes a special reliever for me to want to lock in long term after his initial service time is up. I don’t think May is that guy, and I’m confident the regime can identify another internal candidate to fill the void. If Odorizzi replicates his 2019, that will be hard to replace. He might be the one we have to bite the bullet on and sign long term.
  15. The one not on the list I’m most intrigued about is Kirilloff sticking around... Can he hit his way to a 40 man add before the season?
  16. The Xfinity ad I’m getting at the top of the page each time I click on a new thread page is not my favorite.
  17. I held onto my Denard Span shirsey way past its expiration date. There was a hole in the armpit that I happily ignored... the logo and filling on the number 2 were chipping away with each cycle in the washing machine... It finally got decommissioned into dust rags last season. What I’m trying to say is... I feel your pain. R.I.P. Denard Span shirsey 2008-2019.
  18. Today ended well. Hope y’all stuck it out, and even bought low!
  19. I would move Kepler to CF for sure. If the injury* is short term, Cave or Wade are on the 40 for a reason... If it’s long term** I would seriously consider adding Kirilloff to the 40 and give him the playing time in RF. * furiously knocks on wood ** sorry for even typing this horrific possibility
  20. That is true. But top prospects, especially the #1 overall prospect for multiple seasons have different standards.
  21. If Royce was not healthy in 2019, I fail to understand why he was not placed on the IL at any point? If it wasn’t serious enough to take him off the field, I don’t buy using that injury as an excuse for his rough season in 2019. Again, Doc, I know he was young in his first full season. All of the examples I mentioned in the post before were his age, and (gasp!) some of them played in the same FSL. If he is indeed an elite prospect, I expect him to hit better than league average at A+ and AA. This is a big year for him.
  22. It’s more than just a down 2019, Doc. Lewis has been producing pedestrian offensive numbers since he got the call to Fort Myers. I did this research during the 2019 season and looked at the top SS prospects over the last 5 years. No one struggled as much as Royce in A+ ball: Brendan Rodgers - 2017 - Age 20 - .387/.407/.671 in 236 PA before getting the call to AA. Willy Adames - 2015 - Age 19 - .258/.342/.379 in 456 PA before getting the call to AA. Gleyber Torres - 2016 - Age 19 - .270/.354/.421 in 547 PA before getting the call to AA. J.P. Crawford - 2014 - Age 19 - .286/.373/.395 in 415 PA before getting the call to AA. Amed Rosario - 2015-16 - Age 19/20 - .278/.328/.378 in 707 PA before getting the call to AA. Corey Seager - 2013-2014 - Age 19/20 - .307/.372/.560 in 479 PA before getting the call to AA. Trea Turner - Never played A+ ball. Pretty crazy. Orlando Arcia - 2014 - Age 19 - .289/.346/.392 in 546 PA before getting the call to AA. Can you point out when Lewis was banged up last year that caused his bad stats?
