    My row of peas never took off this year. Little did I know it was because 2 volunteer tomato plants were sprouting in that space instead! I’m going to be loaded with tomatoes now… Looks like it’s going to be a good pepper season in Minnesota as well!

    I support trading Gray if the value is there. I will also be rooting for the Twins now and long after Sonny Gray’s playing days are over. You are correct, the Twins are in playoff contention. It won’t take much to remain in contention thanks to a dreadful AL Central division. There is no team to fear. No one is saying to trade Gray for anything you can get. They will need a return with more perceived value than a competitive balance pick in the 40s overall. With Gray likely being the top SP trade target, I think they would get a lot more than whoever they draft in the 40s.

    Is there any doubt Sonny Gray would be #1 on that list? I’m more interested in Bellinger as a free agent target this winter than a rental trade target.

    It was a fun game to see live. Excellent tune up game for Maeda. The Royals only had maybe 4 hard hit balls all game. Buxton sure looked healthy yesterday. Good to see him beat out a slow roller to SS, and get a stolen base.

    A different voice might kickstart things. It’s still going to be the same philosophy/approach set by the FO. If Popkins is fired today, they’re not very likely to hire someone who is unemployed at this time. It will be one of the 2 assistants named as the interim. Or one of the minor league coaches. I just don’t see the move making much, if any, impact the rest of the season. That being said, it’s absolutely a move I make in the offseason.

    I don’t disagree with the moves, but I’ve got to ask… What do people think is the impact of replacing the hitting coach right now? I highly doubt it’s going to change the direction this team is heading.

    These stats tell me all I need to know about the Twins and their playoff hopes: The Twins have scored 2 runs or less in 13 out of 26 games in June. The Twins have scored 2 runs or less in 31 out of 82 games. Since May 1, the Twins are performing at a 90 loss per 162 game pace. Aaron Gleeman tweeted something like this recently… Who knew the slow offensive start in April would be the high point of the season?

    Give the Mahle trade time to cook, and it could end up being an all time bad trade in team history.

    Pressly will always stick out to me as a bad trade at the time and still a bad trade 5 years later. To be fair, let’s evaluate the trade that was made the day of, and not include his extension years. Astros got 1.5 years of control with Pressly. During that time, Pressly in 76 appearances generated 3 bWAR, an ERA+ well over 200, FIP in the low 2’s. Meanwhile for the Twins, Jorge Alcala has 0.6 bWAR and mostly injured the last two seasons. Gilberto Celestino has 0.1 bWAR, whose development time has been sacrificed because we didn’t have another useful CF on roster.

    Nothing wrong with starting to sift through the upcoming Rule 5 eligible prospects… Lawyerson, Funderburk, Schulfer, etc. I wouldn’t be opposed to adding Enlow back to the 40 and giving him a shot in the pen.

    Yeah there is not an obvious call up to make I’ll give you that. I put that issue squarely on Falvey. He did not add to the pen over the winter, and the assumption is he thought there was enough talent in the minors to cobble a good bullpen together. As @chpettit19said, let’s start looking at talent not on the 40 man roster. They made a pretty quick decision to add Brock Stewart this year after 7 AAA games when his stats in recent years suggested he’s not worth the look.

    Perfectly stated. The damage was already done emotionally for fans. Call it the Alex Colomé effect. I also don’t understand what’s so valuable about Pagan in his role. If anything, it’s blocking younger prospects from getting those reps and potentially moving to a higher leverage role. We know what Pagan’s ceiling is.

    This team screams mediocrity. I just saw this season play out for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Surprisingly playing okay against the top teams, and falling flat on their face against the bad teams.

    I’m enjoying the fruits of my labor so far with romaine lettuce and radishes! The peas aren’t really producing so I have a decision to make… It’s looking like in the next week or two I’ll be enjoying the first garden tomatoes of the year!

    Yeah, I don’t care how we stack up in the AL Central. I would go ahead with selling, and if we win the division with 83 wins that’s a bonus. The Twins don’t stack up well against the projected playoff teams.

    That is a good point about the playoff revenue. If Diamond Sports doesn’t pay the TV contract this year, they may need to make short term decisions to capture the lost revenue. I agree on your thinking they will trade one of Kepler or Gallo, not both. We could get a solid return on Gallo if he heats up over the next 45 days. Polanco is the one on that list I have a difficult time parting with. I’d explore the option but likely hold on to him. From the 10,000 ft overview he appears to be one of the only clubhouse leaders on roster.

    If the Twins are still hovering around .500 in mid July, I would be actively selling to rebuild the farm system. Over the next 30-45 days Falvey needs to find out if Sonny Gray will accept a short extension. If not, sell high on his career best season. He is by far the best trade chip to realistically move. I would also explore trading away Gallo, Thielbar, Solano, and Polanco. I don’t believe Pagan, Kepler, or Maeda have trade value and more likely to be DFA candidates.

    How can they possibly take a further step back without trading our foundation of players 27 years old and younger? Harry is a declining player likely in his last year in the NFL. Isn’t that preferred to a younger player with a chance of getting better if the goal is to be bad?

    I don’t post nearly as much as I used to because it’s the same story in 50% of the games. The offense has given the team a minimal chance to win.

    Since the beginning of 2021 until today, the Twins are 182-205. 23 games under .500 during a period when they were trying to win immediately!

    You are correct Nick. There was a momentous opportunity to build a huge division lead, and it’s squandered away now. The White Sox practically begged to be put out of their misery after their horrid start in April. Now they are 3.5 games out of 1st. Imagine how they must be feeling to be in the mix after an 8-21 March/April. There is zero urgency to do anything different thanks to the division being so bad. Falvey and Rocco will keep on keeping on following the spreadsheet.

    I certainly don’t have high expectations. I like the direction Kwesi is taking. As you said, it’s clearly taking a step back before hopefully taking two steps forward. Overall, can’t complain. They’re gambling for upside with Davenport (26 years old) and Murphy (25). Almost every overpaid veteran is off the team now except Kirk and Harry the Hitman. Solid foundation of players 27 and younger… including two franchise tackles, game changing WR, and arguably a top 3 TE in the league. It will be interesting to see what happens with Hunter. I can go either way with that decision. He’s still young enough to be highly productive for 3-4 more years. But if someone offers a 1st round pick, that will help make a play for one of the top QB prospects next draft.

    Gallo yes, Thielbar yes, Stewart I suppose if he has real value, and Gray yes if he won’t sign a short extension. Polanco I would struggle with trading because he is one of the only visible leaders in the clubhouse.
