  1. NO. Nobody gets to be compared to Jake Cave. Please. If so, I petition Bally to take the games back off my cable system.
  2. Not sure I want a guy who has trouble staying healthy staring into the teeth of double play break up attempts. Even if that's not a big thing anymore. Until it is.
  3. But what is his ceiling? What's his floor? What can we reasonably expect?
  4. Have Larnach & Wallner REALLY passed him? Probably. Maybe. Will we feel differently a year from now when Larnach & Wallner don't have Kepler around and Kepler is playing somewhere else on a contract that by MLB standards is reasonably cheap. Maybe. Probably.
  5. And yet they are sitting squarely in a playoff spot. It's almost as if someone is doing something right.
  6. I'm far more interested in what he does when he gets here than is how he is viewed before he does. We've had a hole at one corner for half a decade and will may well have one in the other next year.
  7. You obviously didn't read what I wrote. Are we ignoring the cost to acquire Mahle, Gray and Lopez?
  8. "wasn't given the opportunity to stay healthy?" HUH??
  9. I didn't say I wouldn't. I just remember a lot of angst among the fan base as recently as the trade deadline three weeks ago about a lack of qualified playoff caliber starting pitching at a point when Lopez, Ryan and Ober were all healthy and performing among the top two dozen pitchers in MLB. Didn't sound like folks were ready for SWR to get the ball with the season on the line.
  10. Had we offered the same contract the Jays did, I think he would have signed.
  11. True. But it will be someone else's call. Along those lines, and I may be the only one in the state that sees it this way, but I think eventually, the call to put Duran in the pen eventually costs us in a different way. I think the day he becomes eligible for free agency, he sees the difference in his monetary value as a starter and as a closer and doesn't even give us the time of day in contract talks.
  12. Maybe but in the ensuing years we gave up significant assets to get guys to fill the hole his departure left in the rotation. Mahle, Gray, Lopez. Any or all of those deals may have been unnecessary had we held on to the best we developed on our own in a decade. Just sayin
  13. At the end of the day it's not HIS decision whether he starts or relieves. He may have a preference but someone else ultimately makes the call. That call is what it has been. Regardless of what he, the fan base in general or TD readers prefer.
  14. no interest in putting a huge injury risk at 2B to be a target on DP takedowns. Yeah, I know, breaking up DPs is not a thing any more. Until it is.
