    True. But it will be someone else's call. Along those lines, and I may be the only one in the state that sees it this way, but I think eventually, the call to put Duran in the pen eventually costs us in a different way. I think the day he becomes eligible for free agency, he sees the difference in his monetary value as a starter and as a closer and doesn't even give us the time of day in contract talks.

    Maybe but in the ensuing years we gave up significant assets to get guys to fill the hole his departure left in the rotation. Mahle, Gray, Lopez. Any or all of those deals may have been unnecessary had we held on to the best we developed on our own in a decade. Just sayin

    At the end of the day it's not HIS decision whether he starts or relieves. He may have a preference but someone else ultimately makes the call. That call is what it has been. Regardless of what he, the fan base in general or TD readers prefer.

    It's so nice to be able to make the call to St. Paul and have the phone picked up by a Simien Wood-Richardson or Festa or Zebby rather than Andrew Albers or Scott Diamond or Sam Deduno.

    And we, most assuredly, have dozens of those who won't make it. Feels like these two will. But, I totally understand, that's why they play the games.

    Nice to be in a position where when we call up players we are actually calling up guys who offer some hope. Unlike 8-10 years ago when a guy came up and you knew he'd never amount to anything.

    ONE guy. Are you brain dead or just unaware of how the game was played for a hundred years?

    If you don't throw guys out there to ramp up their innings pitched and games played year over year they'll never ramp up their innings pitched and games played. OH NO. A pitcher might pitch more than 118 innings or a catcher might play more than a hundred games. We need to stop coddling these guys and make them be baseball players. I'm reminded of a note in TD a couple weeks ago about the final relief appearance of Nolan Ryan's career 50 years ago, against the Twins. Which was preceded by a 10 inning complete game 3 days prior and followed with a complete game 2 days later. And my first thought was about how that stretch ruined his career. Beyond that point in his career he barely reached 4000 more strikeouts and only lead the league in strikeouts seven more times. Poor guy.

    I have one unanswered question: Has anyone ever gone from un-drafted college grad to the big leagues quicker than Dobnak? I've been asking this question for 5 years. Nobody seems to know. I've even tried the Elias Sports Bureau. Nothing.

    Actually all but one team in the playoffs is doomed. We just don't know which one that is. Which is why they play the games.
