    I can assure you that every team in the league is trying to sign a couple of Jax / Stewart level guys with track records. I can assure you that most of those teams will fail. Filling out bullpens is a crapshoot. Case in point: Jeff Hoffman.

    I will disagree about Lopez, Ober and Ryan being the best top 3 in the league. Actually, before Ryan went down, they WERE. And you think the Angels might be interested in Paddack because he has upside? Why wouldn't we want that?

    Perkins might cost less than Ryan or Ober but unless he can pitch at a top three rotation guy I'm not all that interested. And since he's an OF that seems unlikely.

    Dude was the # 8 pick less than 3 years ago and has less than 500 plate appearances above AA ball. I think we can hold off on the angst for just a bit.

    Lewis makes no sense at 2B. He doesn't want to play there, has not shown any reason to believe he will be particularly good there and I'm not sure I want base runners in the grill of an injury prone guy trying to break up double plays for a hundred and forty games. Lee makes all the sense in the world. Until Keaschall is ready at which point move Lee to 3B, Lewis to 1B and Miranda to either DH or STP. Maybe Payton Eeles factors in as well by the end of 2025. My gut says Willi Castro gets moved before the end of 2025. Austin Martin, Keaschall & Eeles all look capable of doing much of what he does for less money. Another possibility is Lee being a "Super Utility" guy ala Michael Cuddyer circa 2004.

    The full no trade means nothing other than what will someone give me to waive it.

    The only way this happens is if it is a salary dump to make the team more attractive to a prospective owner. In which case, bleep the prospective new owner and bleep the current owners. Remember, this is why the Vikings traded Randy Moss. That sucked and so would this.

    Based on the picture at the top I was expecting the article to advocate moving Lopez. The difference between previous moves (such as trading FOR Lopez) is that moving Lopez removes your only front-line starter from the equation. While I think it is quite possible that either Ryan or Ober, or maybe even one of a small handful of others, at some point displaces him as the de facto # 1 guy, it hasn't happened yet. And the thing about pitching is, that even if he's not # 1 you always need a # 2. And 3. Some of the best deals are the ones not made. Moving Lopez falls in that category for me.

    Regarding Vic Power in 1962, I think that may say more about the writers than it does about Vic Power or Harmon. Case in point: This article, for all practical intents and purposes appears to use WAR as a barometer, and yet almost a dozen guys on the team had a higher WAR than Castro. Go figure.

    So, basically, compared to 30-50 years ago, players train far more to play far less. Go figure.

    i tend to agree. However, six weeks in to 2023 I was ready to jettison Solano because he had 5 RBI in almost two months. From that point on, they don't win the division without him. They are a sub-.500 team without Santana last year. Not to mention Castro. The only reason he's not on the previous list is because he balled out.

    Good luck with that. There will ALWAYS be Margots, Gallos, Santanas & Farmers. They may have different names but they will always be there. Those different names may include Julien & Miranda.

    It is a great thing that the Gold Gloves are now handed out based on defensive abilities! Would be even better if contracts were as well.

    You don't get better when your best players are playing somewhere else. Had Brooks Lee played Lewis out of a job trading Lewis would make sense. Still might happen. Might not. Lewis, Buxton, Correa, Lopez, Ryan, Ober and Lee should be untouchable until someone plays them off the roster. Not likely.

    Twins Face First Base Vacuum After Alex Kirilloff’s Retirement: That's cute. As if Kirilloff's presence somehow meant no vacuum at 1B. Sure, maybe the answer lies in some combination of Julien, Miranda, Lewis and maybe even Lee or Correa "in the aggregate." But let's be honest, with pitchers taking up 13 roster spots it's tough to be able to count on as many as five guys to fill one position. The answer might just be same as it was this year: Santana. And, sure, I know, we can't afford him. But can we afford to NOT have him?

    I agree. We'll miss him when he's gone. Not right away, but when Larnach or Wallner or Rodriguez or Martin struggles enough to get sent across the river. Will probably miss his defense sooner than that. Would love to see him take a smaller number to return and at that point wouldn't mind seeing someone like Rodriguez play him off the roster. Won't happen but also not convinced we won't be sitting here in a year wishing it had.
