    I don't particularly want a mediocre guy already on the roster either. We've actually done pretty damn well with our "mediocre" FA veteran guys the last two years. Santana was better than expected and I daresay we don't sniff the post-season in 2023 without Solano down the stretch.

    Nicely done. You nailed the issue without even knowing. Basically you said that Bader isn't a good fit because he does nothing to change the fact that: "This team’s lineup is riddled with hitters who are hard to rely on." The fact that Bader doesn't fix that is not the issue. In the old days of journalism that would have been called burying the lead. You also mentioned that: (if the) "Twins don't get bounce-backs from their young players who struggled down the stretch, Bader could be a frustrating piece amid a sputtering offense." Again, in that case, the issue is not Bader. The issue is the lack of bounce-backs from their young players who struggled down the stretch. Burying the lead again. This reads like Derek Falvey wrote it.

    "The Twins used utilityman Willi Castro as their backup shortstop and center fielder last season, and they believe that wore him down," I was responding to this Bobby Nightengale quote in the article. Not necessarily agreeing with it. But pointing out that if playing (roughly) a quarter of a season at each of those positions wore him down, then it should be considered understandable that others might not hold up to an entire season at those positions. Also not necessarily agreeing with that thought but putting it out there.

    if 86 games between SS & CF wore him down then it's no wonder Correa & Buxton wear down playing those positions.

    Finding a guy with the potential to be an average first baseman does not inspire me. Average defensive first basemen had better be putting up all-star level offensive numbers.

    Mr. Cub and A Rod moved on after being good shortstops. In A Rod's case because of the presence of an all-time great SS. Banks moved because of a knee issue. Poplanco moved because he was not a good shortstop. And since you want to get technical about "which is what was asked" the original comment talked about drafted shortstops moving to other positions. Polanco was never drafted. For the record, neither was Ernie Banks.

    Most players drafted as shortstops end up elsewhere. Not just the Twins. Go look at lists of guys drafted as shortstops.

    If guys like Festa & Matthews are not at least as good as Paddack it might be a LONG next few years in Twinsville.

    Not so much above average bat at 1B and a below average fielder to boot (pun intended) feels like a let down from Santana. Holding out for Alonzo. Make it happen.

    Two keys. Larnach must be competent, above average corner outfielders for a full season and prove they can hit LHP and in Larnach's case especially pitches that aren't straight.
