"Rosario is a shortstop" That's funny stuff. Like the Twins have ever shied away from putting a guy with absolutely NO business in the outfield in the outfield.
As far as Rosario being diet Castro, it's worth remembering that that was pretty much the expectation of Castro when we first signed him.
I'm relatively certain the Twins, like most teams, are listening to trade offers on any number of their players. Most of these offers will be scoffed at. Some will be countered. There may be some fire. But, generally speaking, far more smoke.
And once he gets stretched out he becomes a 6 inning guy. Or a 5 & 2/3 inning guy. Leave him right where he is. We have the "luxury" of having 2 potentially dominant high leverage guys at the back of the pen. Let's keep it.
We traded Berrios and a year later we needed a Berrios so we made the Mahle trade. That didn't work so we made the Gray trade. Lopez was gravy. For a year. A very successful year. Until this year This year he fills the Berrios spot. The number Berrios signed for was NOT totally out of our wheelhouse for a frontline SP. What kind of holes are we looking to fill right now if we still have Steer, Hajjar, Encarnancion-Strand, Arraez & Chase Petty?
Kind of reminds me of when we moved on from a certain LF rather than pay him $8 million. And the guys he was "hindering" have still not made an impact.
Been a Twins fan for 50 years. Long enough to know that IF we trade one of them, the one we trade will go on do become a better pitcher than the one we keep.
I hate to bring it up but with the possible exception of Miller these are not stars but merely pieces with star POTENTIAL. You know, potential, like Kirilloff & Larnach and a million other guys had.
Not sure why a team that has spent most of the last (two, or three, or four) decade(s) looking for starting pitching would trade either of these guys. Also not sure why someone would write an article like this and not speculate on what such a trade might get you in return.
And all those extra stats are going to come at a cost at contract time. But I'm sure none of that cost will be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher ticket, concession and parking.
