  1. The REAL question is what does that tell us about using WAR as a means of evaluating ball players.
  2. Thank you for pointing out the stupidity of using WAR as a measuring stick. Are you next going to tell me that he's twice the ballplayer that Tulo is? That's what WAR is saying.
  3. He LOOKS like an awesome player because he plays on a team that lacks options..251 hitters are only awesome if they have 23 home runs in the first week of June, not August.
  4. I'd like to see room made for Kepler as well but it most likely won't be in the infield. Intriguiging that he has more triples this year than home runs.
  5. He LOOKS like an awesome player because he plays on a team that lacks options. .251 hitters are only awesome if they have 23 home runs in the first week of June, not August.
  6. They will never trade Dozier as long as they can continue to convince fans that he's a legitimate power hitter.
  7. The reason Mauer continues to hit # 3 is the same as the reason you give as to why he remains in the starting lineup. It's much easier to state that Mauer is not a # 3 hitter than it is to point out another guy who IS a # 3 hitter at this point in time. Dozier? At .253? Don't think so. Sano? Pencil him in at 4 and don't take him out for the next 15 years. Buxton? Someday. Maybe?
  8. Not really. Find a rumor mill post from 10 years ago and run the numbers. Took me 2 minutes to find a 2005 post about the Yankees trying to talk the A's into taking Melky Cabrera instead of Eric Duncan in exchange for Mark Kotsay.
  9. Guarantee that went right over the head of about 85% of the people reading this Fritz.
  10. Sometimes the best trades are the ones that you don't make. In the end only one team will win the World Series. A whole lot of teams will end up making moves that appear to make themselves better for the stretch run. Most of them will NOT win the World Series and many of them will end up making the team on the OTHER end of the deal better for the future. If the job was easy all of us who have nothing better to do than post on here would be doing it.
  11. I've been telling everybody who has wanted to write him off at various times over the last two years that we were still talking about a guy with barely over 500 big league plate appearances (and no AAA time before hitting the bigs) and that you shouldn't even think about moving on from a guy with his pedigree before he gets to a thousand PA's.
  12. Of course proposing trades for him is an option-for special folk.
  13. Very unlikely to catch KC whether they stand pat or not. Not giving up assets for a CHANCE to get to a one game playoff series in not as bad as it seems.
  14. If this team isn't going to compete this year OR next trade the whole damn team.
  15. You might want to add 1 ER and 2 Wins to your stat line. A few more hits than I'd like to see but I would attribute that to adjusting to a new role. All in all not a bad line at all. I'd still rather have him out there than Pelfrey.
  16. Agree that Gibson is a middle of the road # 3 type starter. You can never get too many of those when you haven't had a legitimate # 1 for 8 years.
  17. You can never have too much pitching, especially starting pitching. If you think you do, the baseball gods will bite you in the ass. Injuries. Dead arms. Inexcpicable loss of control. Bullpen so bad starters have to throw 8 innings every night. The day you think you have too much starting pitching is the day you had better start looking for more.
  18. Check out J Maddon's lineup Monday night. Schwarber 2, Bryant 3, Rizzo 4, Soler 5. I don't see a better combination for them.
  19. Again-I didn't say anytime soon. I said within 2 years. You're right that Bob Melvin probably won't be f ired anytime soon, but if in 2 years his best hitter is Vogt and he's still batting 2nd he'll likely be long gone. Chances are Vogt batting 2nd is more about Vogt being a good # 2 hitter than about Vogt being his BEST hitter. Being contenders in the AL East just means you're not the Red Sox. Rizzo's a pretty damn good ball player but I'd take Bryant over him in a heartbeat. Better question is "why is one of the two not the cleanup hitter instead of Soler?"
  20. show me the math
  21. And yet a clear majority of big league managers still construct their lineup in that fashion.
  22. Actually, not being smart enough to bat your best hitter 3rd instead of 2nd is what will get him fired.
  23. 3 out of 30. My premise was that in 2 years those managers would be looking for work. 2 of those 3 have losing records and the other could make a pretty good case tha Kris Bryant is his best hitter.
