  1. Folks think I'm crazy but if we're going to consider trading Kepler for a catcher I'd just make him the only left handed throwing German born catcher in the game and let the chips fall where they may. Couldn't be any worse defensively than Pinto.
  2. Still wouldn't give up much for a 30 year old catcher who MIGHT PROJECT to above league average. I'd much rather have a 25 year old catcher who MIGHT PROJECT to be above league average.
  3. If I could be convinced he'd be a top 10 catcher in the future, while wearing a Twins uniform, I'd be in--IF I the cost wasn't too high. The fact that he WAS a top 10 catcher does nothing for me unless he's able to do the same thing here. Big IF!!!!
  4. Who in 2015 had the highest batting average of any Twin with more than 10 plate appearances. Just sayin.
  5. What did I miss? I took a nap and when I woke up we had enough pitching to trade one of the only two guys who pitched enough innings the year before my nap to qualify for the ERA title, had the best ERA of qualified 2, lead the team in innings pitched & strikeouts, for a guy who we can hate as much as Joe just because of his contract. So what else did I miss? Phillies over A's in the World Series? CUBS WIN? CUBS WIN? CUBS WIN?
  6. How about best guy plays-regardless of whether it's Santana of Polanco? Seems reasonable to me. Let it be decided in camp.
  7. Didn't say I had a plan. Just saying all the blind optimism regarding LuCroy may be misguided.
  8. COULD. And he could already be a year into it.
  9. You may be more right about than you think. Maybe what he needs is an off-season of NOT reading about how his 2014 performance is not sustainable. Sometimes young ballplayers, especially young Latin ballplayers are a little bit like kickers--once you get something in their heads it's hard to get it out of there. Santana, Arcia, Vargys. Anyone see a trend? We need to figure out a way to develop these guys rather than throw them away.
  10. OR it could be that he's a 30 year old catcher. We all know those guys are good for at least half a season. See: Suzuki, Kurt. Whaddya think? 3 or 4 year contract?
  11. I realize it was a small sample size but Arica's big league final average last year finished ABOVE the "every Twin except Eduardo Nunez" line.
  12. Also a guy who declined significantly both offensively & defensively before the concussion as well. I'm looking for guys headed in the other direction.
  13. Just not sure the solution is to jump at the first 30 year old guy with concussion issues that becomes available. Always worth remembering that when a team that knows more about a guy than any other team or any of us on the sidelines does makes a guy available they often have a good reason.
  14. I'll argue that NEITHER is where we want to be at that position.
  15. Injury & concussion issues in 30 year old catchers tend to NOT go away. See: Mauer, Joe.
  16. Good point. There's also a chance he's a 30 year old catcher with concussion issues who is a .650 OPS guy.
  17. I have no reason to believe that a 30 year old catcher is any more likely to perform closer to his career numbers than a 32 year old 1B is.
  18. Still not a significant enough upgrade to want to give away elite pieces.
  19. Why do the same folks that want to crucify Mauer for a .718 OPS want to give away the golden goose for a guy with a .717 OPS?
  20. Actually the idea of NOT trading away at mid season a guy for whom the All-Star break seems like Kryptonite seems a bit ridiculous to me. Would LOVE to see Dozier moved at mid season & Rosario moved into that spot and replaced in the OF with someone (Arcia, AB Walker?) with more power. That being said, this organization will not trade a guy in the first year of a reasonably priced 4 year extension.
  21. EVERYONE'S upside is projected & not proven.
  22. See: Kershaw, Clayton
  23. Especially if your goal is to have an OF that combines for 35 home runs next year.
  24. My point is that there a whole lot of Twins fans who are quick to judge trades, that they themselves would have made in a heartbeat, using their incredible accurate 20/20 hindsight.
  25. Remember two weeks ago--when Jake Arrieta had NOT gotten rocked in 2 of 3 post season starts and looked like the best pitcher on the planet? Things change fast-and could for Gray as well. I'd stick with the kid we've been waiting for.
