  1. You are also just as likely (if not moreso) to downgrade the position by holding serve with Escobar.
  2. If we haven't upgraded over Escobar by the time Nolasco & Santana are both off the books we will have missed a fairly large portion of our window of opportunity.
  3. So the question is; Are you one of the 10 people in the state who was actually NOT in favor of jettisoning Gomez when we did so?
  4. Of course you fail to factor in the fact that Gomez, Ortiz & Santana were also all acquired from other organizations.
  5. That's the type of attitude that will most likely come back to haunt us a few years down the road when we realize that even if right not enough upside is there to roll too far with. Even if Escobar is as good as many think he is, he's not better and probably not going to get better either. Need to improve that position no matter how we go about it.
  6. Just because there is a window, whether 4 years or 5 years or 10 years doesn't mean anything is going to happen with that window. Bottom line is IF you trade Plouffe you've got to make your team better in doing so. Not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination.
  7. As opposed to Suzuki, Herman, Fryer, Pinto?
  8. You're right that every team has their own "right" way of doing things. Bottom line is that at at the end of the day (or season) only one team's right way ends up being "the" right way. And in ensuing years others will mimick that but it will still only work for one team each year.
  9. Why would you move your best offensive prospect in a generation(s?) to a defensive position he's played 3 times in his life? Let him play 3B, be comfortable offensively and IF he struggles defensively, deal with that down t he road after he's established himself with the stick.
  10. OR, you could be totally off base. I guess we'll have to see what happens.
  11. Why NOT make him a catcher? Are we loaded with better options capable of hitting 20 home runs and driving in 80+ runs? And why not rotate him at the corner & DH spots one day a week at each. There is not enough offense on this team to think that trading away a 20 home run 80+ RBI guy will lead to an improved team. A year or two from now, maybe. But at this point, NO.
  12. Your missing MY point. My point is that the Cubs DID do that with Bryant at the start of the season even if only for a couple weeks. And THAT is what I said Cubs fans were upset about 6 months ago.
  13. I don't like Plouffe any more or less than the next guy. My personal reason for not wanting to see a guy who is "decidedly average" leave is a lack of guys who are "decidedly ABOVE average." I've said it before and I'll continue to say it: Put Sano at 3B and give Plouffe 5 starts a week rotationg between the 2 corner infield & outfield spots & DH. Or make him a catcher.
  14. Joe Mauer was a long time ago after they had traded their starting catcher to make room for him. Sano's arrival time may have had as much to do woth missing the entire 2014 season as it did with the Super 2 date. If "pretty close to the league average" excites you than I'm happy for you.
  15. So would Dozier not reacting to the All-Star break like it was Kryptonite.
  16. Actually I was referring to them keeping Kris Bryant in the minors at the start of the season not to them paying $20 million to a sub .500 starting pitcher or trading for a .248 hitting catcher.
  17. Actually I was referring to them keeping Kriis Bryant in the minors at the start of the season not to them paying $20 million to a sub .500 starting pitcher or trading for a .248 hitting catcher.
  18. Flash back 6 months and try to convince a Cubs fan of that.
  19. Not like we've got that many other options. Especially ones with a major league pedigree and the ability to throw the ball with their left hand.
  20. The goal is to win the World Series. The goal is not to put up the numbers Escobar has the last 2 years. The goal is to put up BETTER numbers than Escobar has the NEXT 2 years. The goal is to put up better numbers the next 2 years or 3 years or 5 years. It doesn't matter if it's Escobar or Santana or Polanco or Gordon or someone else who does it. The entire roster has to improve or else you find yourselves continueing to settle for 83 win seasons. If Escobar is not going to improve, and I don't see him doing so, then the search for improvement must continue.
  21. Doesn't seem logical to hope someone takes Nolasco "off our hands" if he pitches brilliantly. That's how you end up in 4th place.
  22. After extensive research I've learned that he's only 21 years old AND that MANY much ballyhooed prospects don't become dominant major league baseball players at the age of 21.
  23. 3 more years of team control. If a better option is not available in 3 years something has gone horribly wrong from a player development standpoint that having Escobar under contract is not even remotely going to fix.
  24. They did extend Mauer a year before they actually had to.
