  1. He's leading the league in RISP and only one guy with enough PA's to qualify for the Batting title ahead of him in average. So maybe the bigger question is how is he able to drive in as many runs as he has with guys in front of HIM not getting on base?
  2. Which still leaves a gaping hole in the top 4 if you move Mauer down to the lower half. I may be in the minority but I'm a huge fan of both Hicks & Rosario but neither should be in the top 4 of a contending big league team at this point in their careers.
  3. Both have OPS under .600. If Santana's still your SS 2 years from now it's because you stuck with him thru growing pains this year and were rewarded for it. If Escobar's your SS 2 years from now it's because nobody else has developed the way you hoped and you're stuck with him.
  4. Good luck selling that to said complainers.
  5. MOST teams that win a World Series do so by getting unprecedented performances both with the sticks and on the hill. If not, they probably would have won the series the year before.
  6. Play on a team that doesn't have Escobar as it's next option at his position,
  7. I'd have no problem going with a 6 man rotation but I'd rank them 1-6 and with off days the bottom guys should get skipped in favor of the top guys. I'd even do the same thing with a 5 man rotation.
  8. You're right it IS HISTORY. And history means nothing. If it did, we'd be 11 games under .500 instead of 11 games over.
  9. Nice problem to have and nice to not be looking at the Dedunos, Berniers, Fulds, Schaefers, Mastroiannis & Florimons of the world when reinforcements are needed.
  10. 22 innings pitched is an insignificant sample size and means nothing.
  11. If he contributes to us making the playoffs and he DOESN'T take the mound its going to be a bigger story.
  12. I will vehemently disagree with the statement that the fans should not pick the all-stars. Fans should ALWAYS pick the all-stars. After all, the game is for the fans. The current system is perfect. Fans select the starters. Players select most of the pitchers and 1 reserve at each position. Managers select the rest except the final selection. Are there going to be issues with fan balloting? Of course. Think there wouldn't be similar issue if the players or managers had more say in the matter? If so you're delusional.
  13. Perkins should be a slam dunk. Every other guy mentioned in the article and thread-close but no cigar. All nice ball players but nary an all-star in the bunch. And that's OK. I'm more concerned about what they do in the real games over the next 4 months and next 4 years for that matter. Would love to see a couple guys go out and play at a level that leaves no doubt. Perk is the only guy who fits that mold thus far.
  14. 65% of Johan's appearances over his first 4 seasons in a Twins uniform came out of the bullpen so I think we're OK. We MAY be a little overly optimistic if we're expecting Graham to follow Johan's career track.
  15. That happens with Rule 5 guys. Check out Johan Santana in 2000. Graham's actually on pace to appear in more games than Santana did that year with an ERA of almost 3 runs per game lower than Santana in 2000.
  16. That's actually not beyond the realm of possibility. You could offer the Braves something other than Graham in exchange for them relinquishing their ability to claim him if you wanted to send him down. They're playing .500 ball and lurking 3.5 games off the pace in their division. A middle reliever with a National League track record might entice them to make such a move. Then you could send Graham down and open up two spots in your bullpen for the likes of Oliveros, Meyer, Berrios or Hu.
  17. LIghten up folks. It's not like we're sending Willie Mays down. It's Doug F'ing Bernier. 8 games might be a little early to pull the plug on a guy with a solid major league track record as a middle reliever. Need to give the guy at least 4 more games to see what he's got. Where would this team be right now if they had cut bait on Boyer after 4 games?
  18. The seasn MAY only be 39 games old.
  19. I'm not even a fan of the 12 man staff but I think that ship has sailed.
  20. In spite of my reservations about this move, if you could convince me that this was the reason it was made, I'd sign off on it.
  21. Not a damn thing. A poor man's version of both Escobar and Nunez with a bit less versatility. WTF?
  22. Again. Coaching.
  23. Your last sentence is where coaching is supposed to come into play.
