  1. Enlighten me on what you've seen in 2016 to convince me it was.
  2. One thing we should have learned from all of those Gardy post-season losses and the ensuing last 5 years is that I'll take a post-season drubbing 10 times over what we've been exposed to since 2011. At least June, July, August & September were entertaining. Funny thing about that bullpen. It's ERA is just shy of a full run better than that of the starters. Just sayin
  3. First of all I wasn't advocating bringing him back, merely pointing out that getting rid of him was not quite the panacea so many wanted to believe it was. As to your leading question I'll start the answer session with Tom Kelly 1997-2000. The team improved in 2001 as I believe this team was bound to do in 2015 regardless of whether Gardy or Molitor was calling the shots. We'll never know that. And, yes, I realize TK had the cache that comes from winning 2 World Series rings to get another year beyond 4 straight 90 loss campaigns. But take away those 2 seasons, which a strong argument could be made for both being the result of brilliant moves by Andy McPhail (Gladden, Reardon, Morris, Chili Davis) in the off-seasons preceding them, and quite a bit of the bloom comes off TK's rose.
  4. Career Winning %: Molitor: .448 Gardy: .507 Just sayin
  5. Relax boys & girls. This is the Twins. ZERO chance of this being a bad move. In 3 years Robbie Grossman will be batting cleanup and battling Mike Trout, Miguel Sano & Byron Buxton for MVP honors. With an outfield impediment being removed Sano will FINALLY be able to return to right field where he'll rival Buxton as a defensive player and the two of them will make Twins fans forget that Kirby Puckett & Torii Hunter ever wore the vaunted pinstripes. Happy days are here again. It's gonna be HUGE.
  6. At some point the glass slipper will break for Grossman. Think Lahair, Bryan. Would be nice to have both Arcia and Rosario as options when that happens. The one guy who COULD be moved and actually MIGHT bring value in return is Dozier. Moving him would open infield opportunities for Santana and maybe even a re-visit to 2B for Rosario.
  7. Whatever decisions are made regarding outfielders must be made keeping in mind that sooner (likely) or later the glass slipper will shatter and Robbie Grossman will return to being--Robbie Grossman.
  8. Meanwhile, back in the real world, if half those guys hit those ceilings there should be gridlock in Minneapolis because the streets will be filled with ambulances retrieving 30,000 rubes from Target Field with cartwheel injuries. A realistic expectation would be that 3-4 of those guys hit those ceilings and that 1-2 never even sniff the big leagues. If the guys in between become above average big leaguers all should be well.
  9. It sounds like you've created a huge defensive black hole at 2B.
  10. What we've gotten thus far from Nunez is what we were led to expect from Escobar 3 months ago--with less defense. Things change fast.
  11. I'm really trying to get excited about Nunez. I really am. But then I remember that the things I'm being told I should continue to expect from him are the same things I was told I could expect from Escobar two months ago--minus exceptional defense. But I'm trying. I really am.
  12. Thought 1: The problem with drafting for need in baseball is that by the time a guy is ready to contribute your needs have usually drastically changed. Thought 2: Get Trevor May in the rotation and stop wasting his arm as a set up guy on a 17-40 team. 17-40 teams don't need to develop set up guys, they need to develop starters. STOP THE MADNESS.
  13. Not quite sure how or what you read into my comments to make you believe I view 2002-2010 as a failure on Terry Ryan's part. If the last 15 years and the last 5 in particular have taught us anything, that thing should be that it's a hell of a lot better to get to the playoffs and not win than to be relegated to playing meaningless ball by August, or July, or June, or May.
  14. See: Ryan, Terry: Circa: 2002-2010
  15. I agree about Dozier in the two hole-or any spot above 8. Problem is the same as when folks gripe about wanting Mauer moved down--better options are few and far between.
  16. Not trying to sell anything as failures. Just stating facts. To the other extreme we might also want to let them actually accomplish something before we crown their asses.
  17. Just to clarify: The 3 teams you identified as examples of using this two tiered approach, while admittedly trending in a positive direction--at least one of them is, and lets be honest one of the others is two games over .500 with a $223 million payroll, have thus far combined for ZERO World Series rings using this approach.
  18. Or they could be the same as in 2012 when he was a fairly serviceable big league pitcher. Guess that's why they play the games.
  19. Cuz extra points are too easy. Worked for the NFL.
  20. And in the last 6 times the Wolves have had an opening or every time the Wild have had an opening......????
  21. We don't KNOW that a call wasn't made. We assume. And we all know how that works out.
  22. If you want to make comparisons, compare the 2015 Twins to the 1984 Twins. After years on not competing both teams broke thru and got a taste of what being competitive was like. Then try to remember that between 1984 & 1987 they fired two managers and brought in a new GM. Next move(s)?
  23. Maddon was the rare guy who was in a position to call his shot, whether right away or waiting a year. When is the last time a guy in that position who even bothered to answer a call from a Minnesota area code?
