  1. I agree totally. His play, metrics and feel for the position should all improve with additional time to get acclimated to playing there. Some will criticize the organization for not playing him there in his last year in the minors but try to remember that although Dozier hit .242 in the month preceding Polanco's most recent call up and .369 in June, he hadn't topped .216 in any of the 5 preceding months. Dozier had given them good reason to get their top high minors infield prospect ready to replace him. The REAL question here is, if Dozier is not moved, which Dozier do we see in 2017?
  2. So you're saying he's Huston Street.
  3. We ASSUME that we've got the right guy, that we've got a better guy, that we've got a guy "who is willing to do what needs to be done." We actually KNOW none of that. All General Managers act like they know better than the other teams do. I would not want one that didn't. The object of the game is to know better than the other teams do. Unfortunately, only one GM gets to make that claim each year.
  4. If I'm pursuing a catcher with a .210 BA he'd better be able to frame Curt Young into Cy Young.
  5. IF the Twins get their affairs in order they SHOULD have far better options than Santiago. IF!!!!!!!!
  6. I tend to agree but we don't get a vote.
  7. Not sure where you ever got the idea I had a "trade Ervin in July" opinion. I've never stated such an opinion. I don't even have a "trade Ervin" opinion. All I have ever advocated for is that the new FO make the best possible decisions and have never stated a preference for any particular move to be made in July OR in the off season. As far as Santana goes, I'm of the opinion that if this team can take a 25 game downturn from 2015 to 2016 there's no reason that it can't take a 25 game upturn from 2016 to 2017 and actually be competitive again in 2018 and if NOT trading Santana gives us a better chance of that than I'm not even in the camp that we have any need to move him. The new FO needs to evaluate any and all aspects of this organization and make it's conclusions and act upon those conclusions and not give a damn what you, I, or any other folks who don't get paid to make those decisions think.
  8. Doesn't mean it will be offered in return--regardless of whether it is off season or deadline. Everyone will have a different definition of fair value.
  9. Only slightly off topic here, but remember when Max Kepler looked like Mickey Mantle?
  10. I think that statement was about the period from 1987 to 1991. And since no Twin who pitched in the 1991 World Series was on the roster in 1987 the statement is anything but disingenuous.
  11. I think it doesn't matter what anybody reading this thinks. Get back to me in 3-8 years.
  12. The argument is that is doesn't matter whether you make a move in the off-season or at the deadline. What matters is that you make the best move you possibly can regardless of timing.
  13. The irony of the Twins having a guy named Brady Anderson is that just yesterday as I pondered the fact the Brian Dozier had 42 home runs, the name Brady Anderson came to mind.
  14. Those acquired assets don't always prove to actually be valuable.
  15. I don't think there's an empirical difference. The object is to make the best deal you can whenever you make it.
  16. At some point your best players need to be playing FOR you rather than against you.
  17. Thinking there will be some magic pill that will make them successful in 2018 WITHOUT a best and most reliable starter? At some point you have to have your best players playing FOR you rather than against you.
  18. That kind of thinking is why we are always thinking 2 years out.
  19. Deal your best and only reliable starter? Makes perfect sense IF you have a replacement ready to step in at the same level. We don't. If 2017 Phil Hughes is going to be 2014 Phil Hughes that makes sense. He won't be. Nothing to see here. Move on.
  20. Often overlooked possibility about why Polanco spent all of his minor league time at 2B prior to Nunez being traded is that for the five months immediately preceding the six week period preceding the trade Dozier was brutal with a bat in his hand. We are all convinced that those days are behind us. We've been fooled before. Hopefully, not again.
  21. Ah. The old days when we hated Rick Anderson.
  22. I think the Gordon ETA is just about perfect. 2014-Rookie League; 2015-Low A; 2016-High A; 2017-AA; 2018-AAA; 2019-The Show. Too often this team moves guys through the lower minors in an orderly fashion and then seemingly succumbs to pressure to rush them thru the upper minors before they are ready. Take the time and do it right the first time so we can avoid repeatedly having to send him back down.
