  1. It also seems like said key players are adept at not performing up to expectations. Nothing wrong with the FO calling them out for that instead of leaving it up to the fan base to do so.....
  2. While not sexy the strategy is solid. Which players and how much would they have to pay them to be legitimate World Series contenders in 2019? Stay the course, develop the core, and don't block the advancement path of guys like Royce Lewis, Brusdar Graterol, Nick Gordon, Akil Badoo, Blayne Enlow, Lewin Diaz, Jose Miranda, Tyler Wells,Jaylin Davis, DaShawn Kiersey & Tyler Watson. Also need a little luck in hoping some of the young guys develop and hit the show and contribute a little sooner than expected.
  3. Austudillo's a nice story. But if you're counting on him you might as well pencil in another 90 loss season.
  4. May has 26 career starts and has started ONE game in the last 3 seasons. MIGHT be a stretch to call him a failed starter.
  5. I get that Austudillo is a fun guy to have around. So was Mickey Hatcher. Coincidence that we won a World Series AFTER Hatcher left?
  6. Bottom line is this move merely gives you another option when the balls start flying in March. Might make the club, might not. Same as Tyler Austin. Might make it might not. In a perfect world he gets 600 plate appearances, hits 25 home runs and drives in 85. Any move that decreases the chances of Robbie Grossman's 5 home runs being a vital cog in the lineup is a move worth taking.
  7. Still don't understand the infatuation with Grossman. .255 with a dozen home runs and 60 RBI would be a MONSTER year for him. Need to find a better option if you plan to go to the next level.
  8. "there aren't any glaring holes on the team now that Jason Castro has filled the void at catcher." WHAT? Signing 29 year old catcher who hasn't hit higher than .222 since 2013 because he frames pitches well is the signature move that is going to fix a 59 win team? They could have hired ME to run this team. I could have done that. Obviously this ain't rocket science. Just go on Facebook or Twins Daily, see what the first rube says to do and do it. BRILLIANT.
  9. Totally different. Established, 7 year veteran with a thousand big league games under his belt only asked to start 2 games.
  10. The only thing that has any bearing on Miguel Sano's career is where HE plays.
  11. Bottom line: It was stupid to take a guy who you are counting on to be the offensive cornerstone of your franchise for the next 15 years and move him to a position he'd never played. And to have his only preparation for such a move being "go learn it in the offseason." The fact that we're talking about a young Latin American ball player who already spends much of everyday life in the big leagues dealing with unfamiliarity only compounds the error. You either make the kid a DH or you leave him at the position he's played for most of his minor league career, where HE is comfortable, happy, enjoys and takes pride in playing. You leave him there for 3-5 years and see how he develops. If you're not satisfied you eventually move him to the other corner of the diamond and after that to DH. You can rationalize and assess the situation all you want. At the end of the day it was a dumb move. End of story. Move on and hope like hell the new front office is a little smarter than the previous one.
  12. Bottom line is that no sane person thought Sano in the OF was a good idea. Also if Molitor was complicit in that decision and not just following orders he should have been fired along with Ryan. As far as Schwarber goes he hasn't really played enough game in the OF to make any definitive decision on whether he can or should play out there either. He probably needs to play on an AL team.
  13. The only benefit those types of guys offer is to keep some guys who should spend more time on the farm doing so. This club does a great job of advancing guys thru the low minors in an orderly fashion. But it seems that once they hit the high minors management starts reading the blogs and promotes too many of them too early. If the presence of Dean and Albers kept Gonsalves from getting screwed up too soon at the big level I'm OK with that.
  14. Grossman might be OK as a platoon/DH but keeping him in that role means taking big league at bats away from the likes of Vargys, Park, Walker, Palka and even Rosario & Kepler. No thanks. Nothing to see here. Move along.
  15. Have to disagree just a little bit with the statement that Napoli is the type of guy that Ryan could never get. Someone else mentioned Thome in response to that statement but actually Josh Willingham's first year here was almost a mirror of Napoli's first in Cleveland, right down to the salary. Granted, the next 2 years didn't work out so well but I'll take 35 home runs and 110 RBI for $7 million six ways to Sunday.
  16. "Some of the Twins' top prospects have made the jump from Double-A to the big leagues but Gordon still has some flaws. Huge issue with this team. Guys work thru the lower minors in an orderly fashion, one level a year and when the get to the upper minors we promote within a half season or less and then wonder why they struggle at the big level. See: Buxton, Byron.
  17. If May is not in the rotation he's your closer. And somebody should be fired.
  18. I agree totally. His play, metrics and feel for the position should all improve with additional time to get acclimated to playing there. Some will criticize the organization for not playing him there in his last year in the minors but try to remember that although Dozier hit .242 in the month preceding Polanco's most recent call up and .369 in June, he hadn't topped .216 in any of the 5 preceding months. Dozier had given them good reason to get their top high minors infield prospect ready to replace him. The REAL question here is, if Dozier is not moved, which Dozier do we see in 2017?
  19. So you're saying he's Huston Street.
  20. We ASSUME that we've got the right guy, that we've got a better guy, that we've got a guy "who is willing to do what needs to be done." We actually KNOW none of that. All General Managers act like they know better than the other teams do. I would not want one that didn't. The object of the game is to know better than the other teams do. Unfortunately, only one GM gets to make that claim each year.
  21. If I'm pursuing a catcher with a .210 BA he'd better be able to frame Curt Young into Cy Young.
  22. IF the Twins get their affairs in order they SHOULD have far better options than Santiago. IF!!!!!!!!
  23. I tend to agree but we don't get a vote.
  24. Not sure where you ever got the idea I had a "trade Ervin in July" opinion. I've never stated such an opinion. I don't even have a "trade Ervin" opinion. All I have ever advocated for is that the new FO make the best possible decisions and have never stated a preference for any particular move to be made in July OR in the off season. As far as Santana goes, I'm of the opinion that if this team can take a 25 game downturn from 2015 to 2016 there's no reason that it can't take a 25 game upturn from 2016 to 2017 and actually be competitive again in 2018 and if NOT trading Santana gives us a better chance of that than I'm not even in the camp that we have any need to move him. The new FO needs to evaluate any and all aspects of this organization and make it's conclusions and act upon those conclusions and not give a damn what you, I, or any other folks who don't get paid to make those decisions think.
  25. Doesn't mean it will be offered in return--regardless of whether it is off season or deadline. Everyone will have a different definition of fair value.
