  1. the problem with this is small samples... not to mention some of the career starts at other fields are against teams that no longer exist.
  2. yeah, he does this too.... seems it takes some time for him to flail away at pitches he cannot hit until he eventually adjusts and lets them go. I think he'll be a good major leaguer for what that's worth... but I go back to the point that I suspect his firsts couple months in the bigs will be nothing short of brutal. Hope I'm wrong (about the second part). Almost makes me wonder if the add him a year early in September just to give him a look if the team has the playoffs wrapped up. That would be a bit unorthodox, but a way to get him some MLB time when the team can afford cycles to develop him a bit.
  3. yeah, that's been his MO... his Ks ratchet up every time he goes to a higher level and as he figures it out, they drop. I suspect you'll see that in MLB too for what that's worth. The question to me is whether or not we will have the patience of watching some truly horrible at bats for a couple months until he figures it out.
  4. It's probably worth noting that the beautiful pitch he threw in the video wasn't a strike. I think hitter are laying off of that pitch a bit more...
  5. Wade is an OBP guy too.. I'm actually surprised Cave got the call for that reason. Twins could use some on base help.
  6. This may be the right course of action too. He really needs to work on his plate discipline. Sending him down when Marwin returns to see if he needs a couple weeks in AAA to get his head straight might not be a bad idea.
  7. the fact that we are winning games like this is a testimony to the offense. That said, we've been playing a lot of sloppy baseball of late. I really hope they can correct that at some point. The cracks are showing.
  8. any idea if they've saved enough of their pool to get one or both of those HS pitchers?
  9. Not quite sure I'm ready to see him yet, especially knowing how poorly he does when tested with a new level. I'd rather that be a September thing... but that's me. Probably worth noting that his K rate presently sits around 37%... That's Sano territory, and he's in AAA.
  10. Agreed with everyone else (minus the Stroman part)... he should be one of our top targets.
  11. Pattern wise, Rooker has always struggled with a new level... He strikes out a lot during his first month or two until he acclimates. I don't think (so far at least) that it's an April thing... but this pattern has existed with every level he's played in... every single one. He figures it out eventually, which is good, but I don't expect his major league debut to be pretty.
  12. The K rate is a bit lower than I'd like for a reliever, but he wouldn't be a bad get... especially with runners on where a grounder can induce a DP.
  13. I'm not 39, nor a Bachelor, and I hate cats... I will neither confirm or deny the rest of the contents of the article.
  14. I noticed Boston was pitching him high... kind of makes sense. So what kind of adjustments do you think he should make without destroying his ability to hit home runs?
  15. Interesting... wonder where some of the other top end guys like Giles sit on this... would be a good exercise... That said, I suspect your second pen arm will be one of Pineda or Perez if they can get a playoff caliber arm in the rotation.
  16. I'd rather aim higher... they are having a special season. Trading prospects for reclamation projects is a bad idea. Get Giles, Smith, etc.... pay the price to get them.
  17. I didn't have too much of an issue with him swinging out of his shoes last night. It was a tight game where a solo home run certainly would have mattered... That said, in the few at bats I watched, he wasn't doing a good job taking pitches. Granted I'm on game day, so I cannot tell if they were balls or strikes, but based on GT comments, he was just swinging. He's got to lay off pitches outside the zone.
  18. Both Gibson and Pineda are without question trending in the right direction. I don't think a 2 game sample size on Gibson is at all fair either. WHIP can be all over the place in that number of games. I'm a bit concerned bout Perez. He is trending in the wrong direction though I do think he could be a solution in the pen with his 2 good pitches. I do think adding a starter makes sense, but I'm not really a fan of aiming low. I'd want a guy like Matt Boyd, Syndergard, etc.
  19. which was more than double his WPA when he singlehandedly beat Cleveland.
  20. The way Perez has pitched, Pineda may end up being the 4th starter.
  21. I'm guessing Polanco was ordered to do that... Personally, all I was thinking about in that situation was avoiding the double play. The sac bunt did that and put two runners in scoring position, and with Cruze and Rosario coming up, that was a reasonable bet to see one or both of them come home. You're in a situation where you need that run, so I get it. I do agree that it would have been nice if he was bunting for a base hit... perhaps he was (I didn't see it since I was watching on gameday) and just didn't execute well enough... that is a problem with bunts.
  22. That will certainly depend on ones' definition of said prospect. Lewis, AK, and Graterol are probably unquestioned (for now). One could argue for several of the others you've mentioned (possibly Blankenhorn too if this break out he's having is for real)… just depends on what other teams think. But if you're talking top 100, it's really just Kirilloff, Lewis, and Graterol for now.
