  1. Dear Tortuga, I'm glad you're ticked off... had you taken more 4 pitch walks like you did when you returned, you'd probably still be collecting a MLB check.
  2. I wonder if the Twins analytics have discovered that managers actually do make a difference. I'm still waiting on WAR for managers... it's coming some day... or at least it should.
  3. yeah, this team is a lot deeper than that team was... wasn't Lawton traded that year too? or am I thinking of 2002? I'm not even worried about a starter going down for a couple weeks. Smeltzer has shown he can step in and be competent... Multiple starters though... that's worrisome, and the pen scares me more and more as the season goes on.
  4. Edwar Colina is another guy to start watching... It's amazing how those names can be in the system and just not be noticed. He was an international FA. He's 22 in the FSL, so hardly old for teh league. Seems like his numbers have gotten slightly better each year. His K rate is pretty impressive so far for a starter and he's dropped the walk rate significantly in his small sample... giving up too many hits at the moment, but could be another good starter or dominant reliever.
  5. So are you going to post this every time Gibson pitches? He pitched yesterday by the way... That's a Saturday. I did some checking on this. I couldn't find a whole lot online other than Gibson is involved with religious activities, but absolutely nothing that said he did anything yesterday... and strangely enough, morning religious activities tend to happen on Sundays (at least they do for the bulk of the Christian world, of which Gibson belongs). I found very little indicating what MLB does for religious players, whether that's a daily pre-game thing, weekly thing, post game thing, or whatever. Perhaps you saw something I didn't. I respect that. But show your work. By the way, the game started at 4:10 ET. So whatever he may or may not have chosen to do at the park in his own time... probably had little to do with the results on the field as time was something he had plenty of yesterday. Given what I know about him, I know he's religious, but whether or not that disrupted his pre-game activities is rather dubious, especially without context... and I know you know that, but let's not pretend this is the first time your agenda has conveniently trumped any sort of real information... because we all know it's not, and that's especially true for players who are religious... for whatever reason. Again, show your work. After all, if it happened at the park MLB sanctioned it and the Twins and Tigers also allowed it. I'm not sure how much this activity affected his pre-game, and if I was a betting man, I'd take out a second mortgage that says you don't know nearly enough of the specifics either... as your agenda on this subject has been pretty damn obvious for a few years now. So if you want to play this game, show us if this is a daily thing. Show us how long these activities happen. Show us when these activities occur. Show us Gibson's attendance to said activities and correlate it to his starts. Show us what he needs to do in his pre-game routine and what he actually didn't get to do to attend said events. Bottom line... Do your work.
  6. by the way, I've expressed my concern about Pineda and his ability to adjust to the pen.. I'll say this. Perez has one pheneomanl pitch. I'm not quite sure on his other stuff, but 2 or 3 pitch guys can be lights out in the pen... if he cannot figure out his woes in the rotation right now... I'll simply say that I have far more confidence in him being a lights out guy in the pen than I do Pineda (who has been an acceptable 5th starter)... So if they go out and get another starter, my preference (for now at least) is to give Perez a chance in the pen and see if he can become another Rogers.
  7. whelp... 3-3 is not a losing record either... which is why I was quite happy that we stomped them today... Hopefully the old trend resumes next Sunday.
  8. I don't understand why you're using Morin as an example. He's been in 12 games and surrendered 1 run (11 IP total). He's being worked in... slowly and has succeeded. That trust won't happen overnight. I don't know if he's the next Nick Anderson, but he's performed well when handed the ball.. for what that's worth. You want them to develop the next Will Smith. Perhaps Morin can become that over time... but it will take time, and even if he does (and I wouldn't call this likely), there will be failures along the way... If you want us to find that guy, you're going to have to accept those failures. But that's back to my main point. Get a Kimrbrel. Get Smith. Get Giles. Get some help. Morin might make it... or perhaps Duffey makes it... or maybe Romero. Who knows. You're going to have to roll with those guys periodically until you see who has the right combo of stuff/mental acumen to get the job done... but if we make the playoffs and have this pen... we won't last long.
  9. Possibly... we don't really know what his instructions were. He could have been told to only throw x pitch... or whatever... That said, I don't like many of our high minors options right now.
  10. I wouldn't get too attached. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he's one of the guys traded in a month.
  11. 4.45 ERA... >4BB/9. Strike out rate is good at 10.38 k/9 , but he's sporting a whip of 1.38... Those aren't good numbers against AAA competition. Not sure MLB hitters will treat him better.
  12. oof.. go cubs go? If I'm doing self penance, I think I'd rather wear a hair shirt.
  13. Rooker seems to have quieted his early season woes... still needs to drop that K rate, but he's trending in the right direction.
  14. To be fair, I suspect we may have some of those types already available internally... I just want the Will Smith's of the world to complement them. Those switches rarely go on overnight. I would hope that the current staff can have one or two more names on the Trusted list by seasons end. I'd just like them to acquire one (preferably two) more as well.
  15. I think what's missing in this equation is that these guys take time to develop as well. Look at Rodgers and Pressley. I don't mind letting us do some of that if the team continues to win, but you're going to have to accept some stinkers on occasion along with the numbers in the loss column that come with them. That said, they should still be hedging that bet and acquiring help, b/c there's no guarantee that they've developed another Rogers or two by October. If they do great... but with that added help you're looking at an early 2000s pen then... if they don't... they will be glad they got help.
  16. only thing my colleagues said today was something along the lines of ****ing Kepler... and "never a good day when someone is getting compared to Ted Williams"... 2nd time he's absolutely owned Cleveland in a game, though if I remember right, his actions in 2016 also carried over to some of the other games that series..
  17. Having a link to the box scores on a consistent basis would be nice... but honestly, you've done a pretty fantastic job on these... Love the pen usage stuff.
  18. Truthfully, SSS falls into that too. The difference between his Houston and Minnesota numbers in 2018 could easily be 1 bad game.
  19. No offense to Cody, but this article really feels like trolling, and judging by the comments, I'd say that most of the readers here agree. Let's start with the idea that Sano was a star... when exactly? He had a promising rookie season, but that does not qualify one for being a star. You actually have to perform and do so consistently. Sano hasn't done that. I think we are a bit unfair when we drop labels like that on players like Sano and Buxton. Yeah, I get high expectations. We had them for both players. But neither have lived up to them... And in Sano's case, the dude has an OPS around 1.000 in a SSS. Yeah, that K rate needs to come down a bit. No one is arguing that, but he's produced quite well thus far, especially when you factor in how little time he had to warm up.
  20. probably a bit more concerned about Perez myself. Wondering if the league is figuring him out.
  21. It's probably more of a testimony on how uninformed the national pundits are when it comes to ranking.
